  • Gun Owners: Should We Listen to Bob Costas or Jesus Christ?

As most of you know, during a football game last week Bob Costas lectured us po’ goofy Americans about the evils of a “gun culture” and how we need to evolve away from being obsessed with firearms. As soon as I heard that drivel roll off Mr. C’s tongue I ordered another 30/06, a sweet Walther PPK and a custom .416 Rigby turnbolt. Cowabunga, Bob. Thanks for reminding me to buy more guns. First off, let me help you, Robert: Guns do not kill people. Dads with daughters do. Oh, and BTW, Planned Parenthood kills a lot of people …...
  • Intruder dies in Mississauga home invasion, police allege(Canada)

Police believe the man shot dead during a home invasion in Mississauga early Friday morning was an intruder. The robbery was at a residence on Corkstone Glade, near Rathburn Road and Dixie Road. Police responded to a 911 call just after 12:30 a.m. When they arrived, the suspects were gone and 22-year-old Ibrahim Abukar was found dead. He was alleged to have broken into the home along with the two other men. Peel police said that the men, two of whom were armed, were confronted by the homeowner. A struggle ensued, resulting in Abukar's death.
  • Why did nurse at Kate Middleton’s hospital kill herself?

LONDON — It’s the million-dollar question, and not only here in the U.K. Jacintha Saldana — one of the nurses taken in by the prank phone call to the hospital where Catherine, duchess of Cambridge, was being treated for acute morning sickness — killed herself early Friday. And we are all left scratching our heads. Why did she do it? Of course, the first thing we all wonder is about her mental stability. We’d all desperately like to believe that this hard-working mother of two, who commuted 140 miles to her day job, often working double shifts so that she...
  • MSNBC host: Energy is just too darn cheap (Watch Video)

While I was taking a short break from working this morning and fixing some breakfast, my TV was still on in the background, tuned in to MSNBC. The host of Up With Chris Hayes was holding court over a panel discussion on domestic energy issues, so since that’s pretty much my field I had decided to tune in. The initial discussion had roped in quite a bit of the usual disinformation on natural gas fracking (which appeared to draw heavily on "facts" from fabulist Josh Fox's fictional propaganda piece, Gasland). There was one industry "advocate" included who I wasn't familiar...
  • PDF of full court opinion: "There is no, 'Trust us, changes are coming' clause in the Constitution."

EXCERPT: Moreover, the First Amendment does not require citizens to accept assurances from the government that, if the government later determines it has made a misstep, it will take ameliorative action. There is no, "Trust us, changes are coming" clause in the Constitution. To the contrary, the Bill of Rights itself, and the First Amendment in particular, reflect a degree of skepticism towards governmental self-restraint and self-correction. See Florida Cannabis Action Network, Inc. v. City of Jacksonville, 130 F. Supp. 2d 1358, 1362 (M.D. Fla. 2001) ("The whim, self restraint, or even the well reasoned judgment of a government official...
  • Report: Israel Special Forces Tracking Chemical Weapons In Syria

IDF Special Forces are operating inside Syria to track chemical weapons, the London Sunday Times reported. The Israeli government has not commented on the report. The report from London comes hours after Syrian opposition forces released a video showing that Syrian President Bashar Assad has used chemical weapons in the commercial center of Aleppo. The newspaper stated that the IDF operations across the border are part of new secret operations to locate non-conventional weapons and to sabotage them to prevent their use.
  • Feds handing NYC kids $30 million for free lunch as Sandy aid — whether they need it or not

    NY Post ^ | december 9, 2012 | MARY KAY LINGE
Even as the nation teeters on the edge of the fiscal cliff, the feds have found $30 million in extra lunch money to shower on city schoolchildren in the name of hurricane relief. New York City’s 1.1 million public-school students can each get a free school lunch every day in December (and could have last month, too) — even if their homes were undamaged by the superstorm or they have no financial need. Some parents are furious that the feds put this spending ahead of aid for storm victims scrounging for cash to pay for home repair and other basic...

It’s all pray and no play. The Islamic cultural center near Ground Zero that opened with great fanfare a year ago is now an empty space with no community programs. And while the developers behind Park51 insisted for two years that the project was more than a mosque, it now appears to be just that. Dozens of worshipers gather at the site on Park Place Friday for prayer services — but that’s the only activity in the building. Gone are the Arabic classes, workshops in calligraphy, talks on the genealogy of Muslims in America, film screenings and art exhibits. The...
  • Public pension 'spiking': No one's monitoring overtime spiking in Minnesota

It's unknown how many public employees are spiking their pensions by working huge amounts of overtime. The problem is that no one is watching. And that lack of oversight means it is also unclear whether there's any financial impact on Minnesota's public pension funds. Some experts say it's become a pervasive problem nationally, at least among public workers who have the ability to work overtime in their final years before retirement. "It angers those who are playing by the rules," said Ed Siedle, a Florida-based lawyer who has been dubbed the "pension detective" for his work uncovering abuse and fraud....
  • Obama’s second-term agenda will be shadowed by budget woes

The Washington Post ^ | 8 Dec 12 | Peter Wallsten and Zachary A. Goldfarb
Even if President Obama succeeds in getting Republicans to agree to tax hikes on the wealthy as part of a “fiscal cliff” deal, the country’s grim budget realities will still cast a long shadow — limiting his ambitions as he begins plotting a second-term agenda. Any agreement is likely to result in less than the $1.6 trillion in new taxes over the next decade that Obama requested in his initial offer to House Republicans, and White House aides are signaling to allies that any new money from taxes would be used almost entirely for deficit reduction — not for ambitious,...
  • Woman, 77, shoots at would-be burglar

ATLANTA — A 77-year-old grandmother says she used a gun to protect her home from a burglar. Rita James told Channel 2’s Amanda Cook that a man tossed a brick through the bedroom window of her northwest Atlanta home Wednesday afternoon. James said the man tried to crawl through her window. “He got to cleaning the glass out of the window as much as he could,” James said.

There is one tool of this modern age that we can argue is the greatest aid to the spread of liberty and freedom. This one great tool is in danger. This is a tool that tyrants would like to see dismantled. With freedom and liberty riding on the defense led by the Obama Regime, we should all be worried. What is this great tool and why is it in danger?

As the bodies of her former law-enforcement colleagues pile up in Mexico’s violent drug wars, former small-town police chief Marisol Valles Garcia is fighting for asylum in the United States. “I thought I could make a difference,” Valles says of her decision at age 20 to become the top cop in Praxedis Guadalupe Guerrero, a dusty town of 9,000 in the Chihuahua region, just south of the US border. Two of her predecessors were executed, and the job was vacant for a year before Valles, a criminal-justice student, took it. But she, too, was vulnerable to the intense violence of...

KNOXVILLE — A Knox County man — released from jail on a burglary charge earlier this week — was shot while allegedly burglarizing a Northeast Knox County home today. Authorities responded just before noon to a home on the 5700 block of Old Tazewell Pike to a possible shooting, according to the Knox County Sheriff's Office. Moments later, deputies found an injured man in a blood-spattered white car a couple of miles away near the corner of Washington Pike and Babelay Road.

Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi has annulled a decree he issued last month granting him sweeping emergency powers, in a push to defuse political tensions and deadly violence gripping the country. But a spokesman, speaking late Saturday in Cairo, said a referendum on a controversial draft constitution will still go forward as planned December 15. There has been no formal opposition response to the decree annulment, and it was not immediately clear what impact it will have on opposition protesters who have camped out near the presidential palace since Tuesday. The two issues -- the decree and the referendum -- are...
  • Piers Morgan’s Solution to Gun Violence: “I’d Remove Every Gun in America”

On Monday, Research Director of the Independence Institute David Kopel appeared on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight to debate the issue of gun-related violence with Piers and Josh Horwitz from the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence. In the video below, you can see the debate unfold. What’s most telling in this exchange is Morgan’s admission that he, personally, would like to “Remove every gun in America.” Of course, what preceded this statement only seconds earlier was the perfunctory disclaimer, which is often made by those who secretly wish to pass onerous gun laws, “I do have a respect for the Second...

Attorneys for sex offenders who claim they’re too poor to register have filed a separate case against the city of Chicago on behalf of homeless sex offenders who say they can’t register because they don’t have permanent addresses. Douglas M. Montgomery, a plaintiff in the new case filed Thursday, says in the lawsuit he’s been in the Cook County Jail since July 2011 when he was arrested for urinating in public. He’s awaiting trial on a charge of failing to register as a sex offender. Montgomery, 57, said he was living under a bridge in January 2011 and police refused...

A longtime Gambino crime-family associate tried to convince a judge he’s politically connected to avoid a harsh sentence — claiming a mass-mailing from President Obama proves he has pals in the Oval Office. -snip “Anthony, I’m about to go to speak to the crowd here in Chicago, but I wanted to thank you first,” read an election night e-mail from the president’s campaign headquarters, which was also sent to millions of other supporters. Another, from former President Bill Clinton, read, “Anthony, Thank you so very much for your message on my 66th birthday. “Hearing from you made a special day...

I know it started out as a non-tax bill with the tax part amended on. But that hardly changes the fact that the Senate voted for it.What Ransom, pretty much alone, seems to have missed is that the Democrats don't have to vote for a tax hike bill. The Republicans voted for one 12 years ago (extended by a compromise for two years) and it will go into effect in January. The Democrats only plan on passing...

The Brothers are playing for keeps. As Egypt under the heel of Mohamed Morsi unravels, here’s the late-breaking news: The Muslim Brotherhood is the enemy of democracy. This has always been obvious to anyone who took the time to look into it. Nevertheless, it has not been an easy point to make lo these many years. Even as the Justice Department proved beyond any doubt in court that the Brotherhood’s major goal in America and Europe — its self-professed “grand jihad” — is “eliminating and destroying Western civilization,” to have the temerity to point this out is to be smeared...
