One of the first items on the agenda for Congress in January 2013, if not the first, will be the new and even more Draconian “assault weapons and magazine ban” long since drafted by Dianne Feinstein, Democrat Senator from California. Here, in 1995, Dianne Feinstein explains why she would ban all private ownership of firearms if she could: ---- Moreover, THE TRANSFER TAX (“REGISTRATION TAX”) PER ITEM IS $200 APIECE FOR NFA ITEMS! Only, this would be a transfer “from you to yourself,” an extortionistic demand that you pay to keep something you have already legally purchased and responsibly owned....

The Planned Parenthood abortion business in St. Louis has apparently botched its third abortion in recent weeks, as it was documented sending another woman to a local hospital the day after Christmas. For the third time since Thanksgiving, the Planned Parenthood abortion clinic transported a woman to the hospital for emergency care, making it one of the most dangerous abortion clinics in the nation, according to officials with Operation Rescue, who informed LifeNews of the incident. As the pro-life group indicated, on December 26, at approximately 9:30 a.m., an ambulance was photographed by local activists loading a Planned Parenthood patient...

BOOZE-fuelled Brits spilled on to streets around the country as they raucously saw in the New Year. Partygoers across the country were drunk, disorderly and dishevelled as they stumbled out of bars and clubs. There was carnage in Britain’s major cities – including London, Newcastle, Liverpool and Birmingham – as revellers came out in force, despite the grim weather in some areas. It was a busy night for the emergency services, with some reporting a huge spike in the number of calls they received. The Metropolitan Police said that officers had made 96 arrests across the capital by 3.45am relating...

Not an Awful Deal By QUIN HILLYER on 1.1.13 @ 10:16AM After about an hour of studying last night’s budget deal, I find it right on the borderline between (A) awful-tasting medicine we still need to take for our health and (B) a cure that is worse than the disease. But careful, careful attention pushes the calculation every-so-slightly toward the former. This isn’t even a 51-49 proposition, but only a 50.1-49.9 proposition. Still, here’s why the option of a “yes” vote for House Republicans — notwithstanding my warnings yesterday that “no deal” is better than a bad deal — is...

This year has been quite a storm. Three hundred sixty-five days in a cyclone with fierce weather on all fronts: an economy tossing around in fits and starts; politics stalled by fog and precipitation, with heavy rains arriving in the fall to wash away Republican hopes of winning the White House and both houses of Congress. As the clock winds down on 2012, the Fiscal Cliff is all anyone seems capable of discussing. Right now it appears that some sort of narrow deal has just emerged that will include raising tax rates on family income over $450,000 a year, increasing the estate tax rate, extending unemployment benefits for one year, and delaying spending cuts. But the prospect of higher taxes and the great uncertainty that has surrounded this fiscal fiasco has been acting like sand in the gears of the complex but sputtering U.S. economy. Time Magazine has just named President Obama as their Person of the Year. This has been, of course, controversial, and for the usual reasons: much like with the President’s Nobel Peace Prize, one has to wonder what he actually did to deserve it. David Daniel, an east Texas landowner, was so determined to block the Keystone XL pipeline from coming through his forest that he built an elaborate network of treehouses eight stories above the ground. It popped into my head a long time ago, actually," says 45-year-old David Daniel. "If I had to climb my butt on top of a tree and sit there, I would. It started with that." ...Staging A Tree-sit For 80 days, a couple dozen protesters took turns living up in Daniel's treehouses. Some wore masks to hide their identities. TransCanada, in a lawsuit it filed against the...

What's this? Joe Biden in weekend conversation with Mitch McConnell over how to step back from the fiscal cliff? Isn't Biden the man in charge of solving The Gun Problem? How does he have the time or energy -- not least the ideas -- to launch another rescue mission? Apparently he had none of these. Not much came, reportedly, of the Biden-McConnell negotiations. One is struck anyway by an infinitely larger question -- how did we as a society, as a nation, get to this point: wrapped in suspense while the government of the United States works out, or tries...

REV AL SHARPTON (28 Dec 2012): In any civilized society you do not see massacres continue to happen, from Tucson to Aurora to Columbine to Virginia Tech to where we are now in Newtown to Chicago and you keep the same laws when clearly they're not working. ROSCOE IN MARYLAND: What happens when the criminal goes to knives Al? REV AL SHARPTON: Then you deal with knives. ROSCOE IN MARYLAND: Oh I see. REV AL SHARPTON: The same thing as if you have a head cold and the same thing you do if you have a head cold and the...

There’s no official agreement, so everything you read here may turn out to be nonsense, but it appears that the misfits in Washington have reached a deal on the fiscal cliff. It seems as though my prediction about the outcome was correct. Not that this makes me happy.First, the good news.………Oh, wait, there isn’t any.Now for the bad news. The top tax rate will increase to 39.6 percent for entrepreneurs, investors, small business owners, and other “rich” taxpayers making more than $400,000 ($450,000 for married couples). This is Obama’s big victory. He gets his class-warfare trophy. The double tax on dividends and...

After an election year in which legislative business practically ground to a halt, Congress is poised to make up for lost time in 2013. The new Congress will begin its next session with an agenda expected to focus largely on issues that re-emerged over the past several weeks and months, with gun legislation and immigration reform near the top. Though fiscal issues will remain a priority, how much work lawmakers put into them depends on whether, or to what extent, President Obama and congressional Republicans resolve the fiscal crisis in the closing days of this session. A basic deal to...

Nobody resigns in disgrace any more. Disgrace may be just as common as ever -- such is the human condition -- but not resignations. Even when they're clearly called for. Rank still has its privileges, especially when it's abused. As when the higher-ups at the State Department failed to protect our best and brightest -- like Ambassador Chris Stevens, a rising star in our diplomatic corps. Along with three other dedicated professionals, he was killed in the terrorist raid on an American compound in Benghazi. An independent investigation of that bloody debacle was clearly needed. This one was headed by...
