  • Gun Control? Buy Back Programs? (Vanity)

    01/09/2013 5:55:01 AM PST · by ReaganÜberAlles · 3 replies
Some of the Jews voluntarily lined up in an orderly fashion to board the cattle car trains that took them to their deaths. The Nazis even paid for their travel expenses. I guess that was a "buy back program" taken to it's logical extreme. The D.C. government needs to always know that the citizenry it seeks to take property and rights from is fully armed, fully capable of, and totally willing to, resist their efforts. Gun control has NEVER been about guns...it's ALWAYS been about control.
  • Little Canada man videotaped sheriff's deputies, and got charged for it

Andrew Henderson watched as Ramsey County sheriff's deputies frisked a bloody-faced man outside his Little Canada apartment building. Paramedics then loaded the man, a stranger to Henderson, into an ambulance. Henderson, 28, took out his small handheld video camera and began recording. It's something he does regularly with law enforcement. But what happened next was different. The deputy, Jacqueline Muellner, approached him and snatched the camera from his hand, Henderson said. "We'll just take this for evidence," Muellner said. Their voices were recorded on Henderson's cellphone as they spoke, and Henderson provided a copy of the audio file to the...
  • Beyond 9mm: Concealed Carry in .40 and .45

The 9mm is a great round, and in my last concealed carry post I covered some great concealed carry guns built around that caliber. However, there are a lot of handguns in larger calibers that are perfect for concealed carry as well -- that are also designed for concealed carry -- and these guns carry the benefit of having more knock down power, or more one-shot stopping power. Specifically, I'm thinking about handguns chambered in .40 and .45 caliber. To cover these rounds, I'm going to examine the Glock 27 in .40, the Smith & Wesson M&P in .45, and...
  • Banking On The Path To Fiscal Ruin

A trend has taken shape in Washington, and it has put our country on a devastating path towards potential fiscal ruin. The trend is characterized by an unsustainable penchant for spending money we don’t have. It became crystal clear in last year’s debt ceiling negotiations and was further highlighted by the recent debate surrounding the fiscal cliff; our country is broke, yet our government continues to spend more, risk more and accumulate more debt. Entitlements are often blamed for the vast majority of our spending issues, but our tendency to overspend is not restricted to just these. Parallels exist...
  • Economy Grows, Revenues Increase After Texas Slashes Spending

The Texas state comptroller estimated Texas will generate $96.2 billion in revenue for the 2014-2015 fiscal cycle and reported Texas collected $8.8 billion more in revenue than expected during the last fiscal year. When unemployment in Texas was at its highest in a decade and the state government faced a $27 billion shortfall in 2011, legislators wrote what was then described as a “cut-to-the-bone” budget. And it worked. According to the Associated Press, “unemployment now is at a four-year low of 6.2 percent, sales tax receipts are skyrocketing and money is pouring into state coffers behind a new energy boom.”...

Let's be clear: when Congress passes an "assault weapons" ban (and they will pass a ban), it'll be pretty much toothless. That the law will likely leave most things unchanged doesn't matter — the government simply has to do something. Much like Clinton's ban in 1994, this new legislation will be rife with loopholes. To effectively ban weapons in the U.S., a country with 90 guns for every 100 people, the government would have to outlaw all semiautomatic weapons. That's not all though. It would then have to double, if not triple, the staff at Alcohol Tobacco Firearms, and sweep...

  • A Petty Decision by Obama

It's official. President Obama has named former Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.) as his nominee for secretary of defense. Hence, we may be in store for the worst defense secretary nomination fight since George H.W. Bush's failed appointment of Sen. John Tower (R-Texas) more than 20 years ago. The interesting question is, why? Why waste the political capital? Why pass over more qualified candidates who would sail through confirmation, including Michele Flournoy -- who'd be the first female defense secretary? The most ridiculous answer is among the mainstream media's favorites: bipartisanship. According to Politico, the choice "appeals to Obama's bipartisan spirit."...

The Obama administration ordered a broad review of Shell’s Arctic drilling program on Tuesday, following a series of mishaps that culminated with the grounding of the company’s Kulluk rig on New Year’s Eve. The move calls into question whether Shell Oil Co. will be allowed to continue its hunt for crude under the Chukchi and Beaufort seas north of Alaska, after spending $5 billion and more than six years on the quest. In announcing the probe, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar stressed that the Obama administration “is fully committed to exploring for potential in energy resources in frontier areas, such as...

While fellow conservatives bash the president for telling Speaker of the House John Boehner that the country doesn’t have a spending problem, I offer Barack Obama another thank-you. Just when I thought that the GOP’s own ineptitude was going to sink the party, the man-who-would-be-president proved once again that when it comes to being out of touch, you can’t get any better than the First Community Organizer. Led by Barack Obama and the Democrats, Congress passed a budget plan that doesn’t even do what they said it would- keep taxes lower for anyone not a millionaire or billionaire. So, now we...

*** "First, as you consider Denis McDonough, and his role in the Benghazi events, it is worth noting this little before seen short video from 2006 while George Bush was in office. The Democrats had just won the majority seats in the House of Representatives, and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq were being used 24/7 by the politicos to demonize Bush." ***

The current state of the GOP brings to mind the surviving Marines in Aliens, with no shortage of demoralized hacks lamenting their inability to resist by channeling Private Hudson: “Maybe you haven't been keeping up on current events but we just got our a**** kicked, pal!” So what? So we took a hit on the Fiscal Cliff. Stand up, brush off and get back into the fight. This is no time for self-pity, no time for weakness. Every combat leader knows that when you take a hit, you regroup, reorganize, and prepare to counterattack. The defense is but a temporary,...

The Freedom From Religion Foundation, an atheist group, is demanding that a southern Ohio middle school remove a framed photo of Jesus Christ. The photo has hung in the school building for several decades. The Madison Wisconsin-based group is citing an “unidentified complainant” in its crusade to have the removed from the public school. The Jackson Middle School is a part of the only school district which serves the Ohio town. The demand from the atheist group to remove the framed image of Jesus Christ began as a local story in our rural region, but has since garnered national headlines....

A son of the late Robert F. Kennedy, who was acquitted of criminal charges in a maternity ward scuffle, is suing two nurses who publicly said that he kicked them in the crotch during the assault. Douglas Kennedy is alleging defamation and malicious prosecution by nurses Cari Luciano and Anna Lane. He said their statements to police and on NBC's Today show held him up to 'ridicule and scorn' and led to his prosecution. The lawsuit, filed on Friday in White Plains, New York stems from Kennedy's attempt a year ago to take his newborn son from Northern Westchester Hospital...

SAN FRANCISCO – A review board has challenged the Boy Scouts of America's prohibition on gay members by recommending a local teenager for the rank of Eagle Scout, but the action won't have an immediate effect on the young man's status, his father said Tuesday. The four-member board unanimously approved 18-year-old Ryan Andresen's application on Dec. 31 and hand-delivered it to the Mt.Diablo-Silverado Council's leadership, the boy's father said. The board agreed to review Ryan's qualifications after the Moraga teen's scoutmaster refused to sign off on the paperwork after Ryan came out as gay last fall. But the staff executive...

After the honor guard and the pipe and drum corps finished performing, after the recital of the pledge of allegiance and the national anthem, after the invocation and the official swearing-in had taken place, Broward Sheriff Scott Israel laid out his vision for the agency he was elected to lead. “There will be change,’’ Israel said. “I think that’s important. We will be transparent. We will have a new vision, and we will be a diverse group of men and women.’’

Syrian rebel groups have freed 48 Iranians captured last year in exchange for prisoners held by Syrian security services, according to Iran's state-run Press TV. The report did not specify the number of prisoners freed by the government, but said the group included Turks. Earlier on Wednesday, the Turkish humanitarian aid agency IHH said that the Syrian government would free 2,130 prisoners in exchange for the Iranians. Bulent Yildirim, the head of IHH, was in Damascus to help negotiate the deal. Turkey's state-run Anatolian news agency said the deal was brokered by Turkey and Qatar. The Iranians were captured in...

This morning Arthur Brooks appeared on CNBC’s Squawk Box and revealed some startling facts on the same topic. Here’s a partial transcript of the interview. JOE KERNEN: The fiscal cliff fight’s over, a battle that is still looming large. SAN FRANCISCO — The attackers hit one American bank after the next. As in so many previous attacks, dozens of online banking sites slowed, hiccupped or ground to a halt before recovering several minutes later. But there was something disturbingly different about the wave of online attacks on American banks in recent weeks. Security researchers say that instead of exploiting individual computers, the attackers engineered networks of computers in data centers, transforming the online equivalent of a few yapping Chihuahuas into a pack of fire-breathing Godzillas. The skill required to carry out attacks on this scale has convinced United States...

Connecticut legislator DebraLee Hovey, a six-term Republican state representative for the towns of Monroe and Newtown, had some candid, if ill-advised words for Gabrielle Giffords, who visited with victims of the Sandy Hook shooting on Friday. "Gabby Gifford [sic] stay out of my towns!!" Hovey wrote on her then-public Facebook, via mobile from Saint Pete Beach, Florida. "It was political," she elaborated in the comments, according to cringey screenshots obtained by the Hartford Courant. "The Lt Gov was there […] and ALL political types KNOW it is courteous to let sitting Reps known when another political [sic] is in their...
