  • Gun Control? Buy Back Programs? (Vanity)

    01/09/2013 5:55:01 AM PST · by ReaganÜberAlles · 3 replies
Some of the Jews voluntarily lined up in an orderly fashion to board the cattle car trains that took them to their deaths. The Nazis even paid for their travel expenses. I guess that was a "buy back program" taken to it's logical extreme. The D.C. government needs to always know that the citizenry it seeks to take property and rights from is fully armed, fully capable of, and totally willing to, resist their efforts. Gun control has NEVER been about guns...it's ALWAYS been about control.

Andrew Henderson watched as Ramsey County sheriff's deputies frisked a bloody-faced man outside his Little Canada apartment building. Paramedics then loaded the man, a stranger to Henderson, into an ambulance. Henderson, 28, took out his small handheld video camera and began recording. It's something he does regularly with law enforcement. But what happened next was different. The deputy, Jacqueline Muellner, approached him and snatched the camera from his hand, Henderson said. "We'll just take this for evidence," Muellner said. Their voices were recorded on Henderson's cellphone as they spoke, and Henderson provided a copy of the audio file to the...
  • Beyond 9mm: Concealed Carry in .40 and .45

The 9mm is a great round, and in my last concealed carry post I covered some great concealed carry guns built around that caliber. However, there are a lot of handguns in larger calibers that are perfect for concealed carry as well -- that are also designed for concealed carry -- and these guns carry the benefit of having more knock down power, or more one-shot stopping power. Specifically, I'm thinking about handguns chambered in .40 and .45 caliber. To cover these rounds, I'm going to examine the Glock 27 in .40, the Smith & Wesson M&P in .45, and...
  • Banking On The Path To Fiscal Ruin

A trend has taken shape in Washington, and it has put our country on a devastating path towards potential fiscal ruin. The trend is characterized by an unsustainable penchant for spending money we don’t have. It became crystal clear in last year’s debt ceiling negotiations and was further highlighted by the recent debate surrounding the fiscal cliff; our country is broke, yet our government continues to spend more, risk more and accumulate more debt. Entitlements are often blamed for the vast majority of our spending issues, but our tendency to overspend is not restricted to just these. Parallels exist...

The Texas state comptroller estimated Texas will generate $96.2 billion in revenue for the 2014-2015 fiscal cycle and reported Texas collected $8.8 billion more in revenue than expected during the last fiscal year. When unemployment in Texas was at its highest in a decade and the state government faced a $27 billion shortfall in 2011, legislators wrote what was then described as a “cut-to-the-bone” budget. And it worked. According to the Associated Press, “unemployment now is at a four-year low of 6.2 percent, sales tax receipts are skyrocketing and money is pouring into state coffers behind a new energy boom.”...

Let's be clear: when Congress passes an "assault weapons" ban (and they will pass a ban), it'll be pretty much toothless. That the law will likely leave most things unchanged doesn't matter — the government simply has to do something. Much like Clinton's ban in 1994, this new legislation will be rife with loopholes. To effectively ban weapons in the U.S., a country with 90 guns for every 100 people, the government would have to outlaw all semiautomatic weapons. That's not all though. It would then have to double, if not triple, the staff at Alcohol Tobacco Firearms, and sweep...

It's official. President Obama has named former Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.) as his nominee for secretary of defense. Hence, we may be in store for the worst defense secretary nomination fight since George H.W. Bush's failed appointment of Sen. John Tower (R-Texas) more than 20 years ago. The interesting question is, why? Why waste the political capital? Why pass over more qualified candidates who would sail through confirmation, including Michele Flournoy -- who'd be the first female defense secretary? The most ridiculous answer is among the mainstream media's favorites: bipartisanship. According to Politico, the choice "appeals to Obama's bipartisan spirit."...

The Obama administration ordered a broad review of Shell’s Arctic drilling program on Tuesday, following a series of mishaps that culminated with the grounding of the company’s Kulluk rig on New Year’s Eve. The move calls into question whether Shell Oil Co. will be allowed to continue its hunt for crude under the Chukchi and Beaufort seas north of Alaska, after spending $5 billion and more than six years on the quest. In announcing the probe, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar stressed that the Obama administration “is fully committed to exploring for potential in energy resources in frontier areas, such as...

Douglas Kennedy is alleging defamation and malicious prosecution by nurses Cari Luciano and Anna Lane. The four-member board unanimously approved 18-year-old Ryan Andresen's application on Dec. 31 and hand-delivered it to the Mt.Diablo-Silverado Council's leadership, the boy's father said. The board agreed to review Ryan's qualifications after the Moraga teen's scoutmaster refused to sign off on the paperwork after Ryan came out as gay last fall. But the staff executive...

SAN FRANCISCO — The attackers hit one American bank after the next. As in so many previous attacks, dozens of online banking sites slowed, hiccupped or ground to a halt before recovering several minutes later. But there was something disturbingly different about the wave of online attacks on American banks in recent weeks. Security researchers say that instead of exploiting individual computers, the attackers engineered networks of computers in data centers, transforming the online equivalent of a few yapping Chihuahuas into a pack of fire-breathing Godzillas. The skill required to carry out attacks on this scale has convinced United States...

The couple's home vegetable garden which is located in the College Park section of Orlando, is on the cutting board again after the city threatened hefty fines if not uprooted this week, according to a group for citizen’s rights. Jason and Jennifer Helvenston announced that they are launching the "Plant a Seed, Change the law," program to protest Orlando's law against home gardens, saying it violates their constitutional right to peaceful use of...

The United Way of Western Connecticut said it rejects conspiracy theories claiming it knew about the Dec. 14 Newtown, Conn., school shooting three days in advance and leveraged that knowledge to raise money. “It’s preposterous,” executive vice president Isabel Almeida told The Daily Caller Tuesday, dismissing what she called a “flawed” Google search result that suggests her organization issued a statement of condolence — and launched a support fund for the victims’ families — on Dec. 11. That fund has raised more than $6 million, the group reported Jan. 4.

In a statement released Tuesday, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) telegraphed that he would delay the confirmation of President Barack Obama’s CIA nominee John Brennan if the White House fails to answer questions about the Benghazi attacks. "I do not believe we should confirm anyone as Director of the CIA until our questions are answered," he declared. Mr. Graham said that any effort on his part to delay the confirmation process was not directed at Mr. Brennan but rather was meant to get to the bottom of intelligence failures involved in the Benghazi fiasco. Senate rules allow any United States senator...

"It is pathetic, it is ridiculous that you are allowed -- I don't care what the justification is, that you are allowed in this country to own a semi-automatic weapon, much less a handgun," Daily Beast columnist Buzz Bissinger said to Piers Morgan on his CNN program on Tuesday. "But what do you need a semi-automatic weapon for? The only reason I think you need it is, Piers, challenge Alex Jones to a boxing matc, show up with a semi-automatic that you got legally, and pop him." After Bissinger made his bizarre suggestion, fellow guest Abbie Huntsman, daughter of John...

Poachers killed a family of 11 elephants in the biggest single mass shooting of the animals on record in Kenya, wildlife officials said today. A gang of about 10 attackers hacked off the elephants' tusks in Tsavo East National Park on Saturday, officials said - the latest sign of a resurgence of mostly Asian demand for ivory jewellery and ornaments. "The entire family of 11 elephants have been confirmed poached and tusks chopped off. All the carcasses had bullet wounds," the service said in a statement.

The Obama administration is considering the possibility of removing all U.S. troops in Afghanistan after the NATO combat mission officially finishes at the end of 2014, White House officials said Tuesday. The comments by Ben Rhodes, the White House's deputy national security adviser, come as the Pentagon and White House mull over the number of troops that could be left in Afghanistan after 2014 to fight insurgents and train Afghan security forces. Afghan President Hamid Karzai and President Obama are scheduled to meet on Friday in Washington. Rhodes said the administration is considering a range of options, with one scenario...

John Brennan, the Obama counter-terrorism adviser nominated this week to head the CIA, played a controversial role in what many suspect was an effort to sanitize Obama’s passport records. On March 21, 2008, amid Obama’s first presidential campaign, two unnamed contract employees for the State Department were fired and a third was disciplined for breaching the passport file of Democratic presidential candidate and then-Sen. Barack Obama. Breaking the story, the Washington Times on March 20, 2008, noted that all three had used their authorized computer network access to look up and read Obama’s records within the State Department consular affairs...

It looks like there will be a showdown at the state Capitol this year over the Second Amendment. Senate President John Morse, D-Colorado Springs, and House Minority Leader Mark Waller, R-Colorado Springs, predicted in back-to-back interviews with The Gazette editorial board that there will be a political battle over gun regulations. “Absolutely, your gun rights are going to come under attack,” Waller said. “Word on the street is that there are probably eight or 10 bills that are going to go after your gun rights in one way or another.” He and Morse both said there will likely be bills...

  • Thank you, America: AIG mulls suing for insufficient bailout

Here’s AIG’s entry into the series of suck-up commercials bailed-out entities have had to run in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis. On one hand, I appreciate the gesture. On the other, the thank-yous ring a bit hollow, the sorrys are non-existent, and they’re always a little heavy on the triumphant return theme. Fresh from paying back a $182 billion bailout, the American International Group has been running a nationwide advertising campaign with the tagline “Thank you America.” Behind the scenes, the restored insurance company is weighing whether to tell the government agencies that rescued it during the financial...

DENVER — As Colorado’s legislature opens Wednesday with Democrats back in control of both the state House and Senate and seeking to pursue several gun control proposals, gun enthusiasts are set to hold a large rally just outside the Capitol that’s sure to draw a lot of media attention. Organized by a group called “Guns for Everyone”, the rally is likely to draw some gun enthusiasts who are carrying weapons in Veteran’s Park, the rally site just across Lincoln Avenue from the Capitol. That would be a violation of a city ordinance. “The main focus of the rally is gun...

Not Even Close: 2012 Was Hottest Ever in U.S. So declared The New York Times in an article almost dripping with self-righteous jubilation. This sentiment was also echoed at the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, Reuters, and many other media outlets. But could they all end up eating globally warmed crow? According to Anthony Watts of Watts Up With That? that is exactly what they might be forced to do. The source upon which this  "Hottest Ever" story is based is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) National Climatic Data Center (NCDC). According to Watts' intensive research, it...
