A pretty, young, auburn-haired woman – mid-20s – drove down a lonely country road somewhere in Oklahoma. Appearing in her rearview mirror, at the back windshield, were two menacing orbs of light floating amid ashen dusk. The guttural roar of a souped-up big block shook the tiny Volkswagen Rabbit as a van-load of inbred thugs lurched left and drew alongside her. A ponytailed passenger taunted inaudibly and blew foul kisses between crude hand gestures. He pointed for her to pull over as the van repeatedly swerved dangerously close. Inside the car a man, asleep in the reclining passenger seat, was...

    Washington Post ^ | January 10, 2013 | Greg Miller
The CIA has opened the year with a flurry of drone strikes in Pakistan, pounding Taliban targets along the country’s tribal belt at a time when the Obama administration is preparing to disclose its plans for pulling most U.S. forces out of neighboring Afghanistan. A strike Thursday in North Waziristan was the seventh in 10 days, marking a major escalation in the pace of attacks. Drone attacks had slipped in frequency to fewer than one per week last year. Current and former U.S. intelligence officials attributed the increased tempo to a sense of urgency surrounding expectations that President Obama will...

The White House may craftily be laying the groundwork for a massive and thoroughly unconstitutional seizure of power from Congress.Republicans are threatening not to raise the debt ceiling limit unless President Obama agrees to significant cuts in spending. And so, a move is increasingly afoot to have Obama raise it himself. It’s hard to imagine that the growing clamor doesn’t have the approval of the White House. And it’s hard to imagine a more egregious abuse of power. There are few Constitutional principles more clear than that Congress is in charge of allotting the nation’s cash. . .

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - Mississippi's only abortion clinic missed a deadline Friday to comply with a state law requiring each of its physicians to get hospital admitting privileges. Diane Derzis, administrator of the Jackson Women's Health Organization, said every Jackson-area hospital where the clinic applied for privileges said it doesn't want to deal with the pressure of being associated with abortion providers. As the deadline passes, the Mississippi Department of Health won't immediately close the clinic, but will pay an unannounced visit to the clinic within the next few days. If the clinic is found to be non-compliant,...

Generally it means that even the severely reduced number of warheads deployed in our arsenal would not -- if they were needed in a crisis -- be available for use. If that in fact took place -- with countries hostile to the US having arsenals in excess of the US force -- it would probably be in irresistible invitation to them to attack. Former Senator Chuck Hagel, nominated to be Secretary of Defense, is also a signatory of what is known as the "Global Zero" plan. CHEYENNE — Some Wyoming lawmakers are pushing to pre-empt any federal crackdown on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines in the aftermath of last month's school shooting in Connecticut. A bill pending in the Wyoming Legislature would specify that any federal limitation on guns would be unenforceable. It also would make it a state felony for federal agents to try to enforce restrictions. The bill comes as Vice President Joe Biden is set to deliver gun-control proposals to President Barack Obama on Tuesday. Obama has said reducing gun violence is a top priority following the massacre of 20 children and six...

Top Senate Democrats say, go for it. The White House has dismissed talk that Obama would rely on unusual measures to raise the nation's debt limit without Congress' approval, but administration officials also have warned that the country could default on its debt and trigger a new economic crisis if lawmakers don't increase the limit on borrowing.

Yet, the Treasury also says that during December it increased by $63.079 billion the national debt subject to the statutory legal limit set by Congress, thus dramatically bringing the debt to the legal limit on Dec. 31, just as Congress and the White House were involved in final negotiations on a deal to avert the so-called “fiscal cliff”—which would have canceled all of the lower...

Hoffman, a 21-year-old Virginian who works at a nonprofit, estimates her paycheck will be roughly $30 less this biweekly pay period, or about $780 annually, thanks to the end of a two-year cut on payroll taxes, which fund Social Security. The controlled study documented in these videos show that concealed carry permit holders are fooling themselves if they think they will be able to react effectively to armed aggressors. Most CCW holders won't even be able to un-holster their gun. They will more likely be killed themselves or kill innocent bystanders than stop the aggressor. For more details, see "Unintended Consequences: Pro-Handgun Experts Prove That Handguns Are a Dangerous Choice for Self-Defense." http://www.vpc.org/studies/unincont.htm. CCW permit holders don't protect innocent people. They kill them.
  • Alabama Court Rules Unborn Children Deserve Legal Protection

A ruling by the Alabama Supreme Court today makes the argument that unborn children deserve legal protection under the law. The case involves the consolidation of two cases, which address the question of whether Alabama’s law against chemical endangerment of children can be applied to unborn children who are exposed to illegal drugs in utero. Courts of appeal in Alabama upheld convictions of mothers who were charged under the chemical endangerment law, when their children tested positive for illegal drugs at birth.

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT RUSH: Here's a headline from CNBC: "Major Flu Outbreak Threatens to Slow the Economy Further." Now, what the hell kind of headline is this? "Major Flu Outbreak Threatens to Slow the Economy Further." It was just yesterday I was talking about media propagandists, and you see this headline, and you have to understand that I know what I'm talking about and I was right. The flu threatens to slow the economy further? Really? They're throwing that out there now? We know that it's not the flu slowing down the economy! We know it's not the flu that has...

District of Columbia Attorney General Irvin Nathan issued a lengthy letter today explaining the decision not to prosecute David Gregory despite “despite the clarity of the violation of this important law,” despite rejecting NBC’s claims of a subjective misunderstanding of the law, and despite vowing vigorous enforcement of gun laws. -snip- t further undermines public confidence in such decisions to find out that Nathan knew Gregory and his wife, high-powered attorney Beth Wilkinson. Anne dug up the connection in which in 2011 Nathan and Wilkinson participated together in a charity mock trial for the Washington, D.C. Shakespeare Theatre Company (emphasis...

Employers may be hiring, but there's another big problem with the job market that isn't being tracked as closely: the hopelessly unemployed. An often overlooked number calculated by the Labor Department shows millions of Americans want a job but haven't searched for one in at least a year. They've simply given up hope. They're not counted as part of the labor force, the official unemployment rate, or the category the Labor Department refers to as "discouraged workers" -- those who haven't bothered to look for work in the last four weeks. These hopelessly unemployed workers have just been jobless so...

Alabama Leads The Way In Nationwide Run On GunsBy Challen Stephens cstephens@al.com January 10, 2013 at 11:08 AM, updated January 11, 2013 at 9:49 AM Alabama appears to have led the national run on guns last month. It's not that Alabamians purchased the most. But Alabama saw the nation's largest spike in applications for firearm background checks, a sudden rise of 145 percent, between the months of October and December. Federal background checks spiked in every single state following the presidential election and the shooting in Newtown, according to FBI data on background checks. Background checks normally rise before Christmas....

A Middle Tennessee firearms trainer who made an ominous and very public promise in a YouTube video that gained national attention this week, has had his handgun carry permit suspended Friday by the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security. James Yeager, 42, had his permit suspended based on a "material likelihood of risk of harm to the public," the department said in a statement. Yeager told Channel 4 News he is aware of the suspension, and his attorney will handle his statements going forward.
