  • Katherine Webb will cover Super Bowl for “Inside Edition”

    01/16/2013 4:12:19 PM PST · by jakerobins · 22 replies
Katherine Webb came off as pretty sharp after her fame blew up during the BCS Championship Game, and she's smartly taking advantage of her instant celebrity. Webb, Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron's girlfriend and Miss Alabama, announced on Twitter that she will be covering the Super Bowl for "Inside Edition." Maybe she wants a television career (she came off well during her "Today" show interview, for what it's worth), or maybe she wants to have some fun and get a free trip to New Orleans. Either way, good for her.

Christian Phillip Oberender, 32, is in jail in Carver County accused of possessing 13 firearms and ammunition as a convicted felon. Oberender was convicted of murdering his mother, Mary Oberender, in 1995. He was 14-years-old when he shot her several times with a shotgun. Now, 18 years later, he faces felony charges for possessing those 13 guns illegally, but it's what he didn't do that has his community on edge. "I need to know about these things. I am going to keep a very visual look at what is happening in this case and follow it and figure it out....

If my email in-box is any indication, the Obama White House and its allies may have bitten off much more than they can chew as they look to weaken or abolish the Second Amendment to the Constitution and our right to bear arms. Over the last two weeks I have heard from a growing list of Second Amendment supporters, members of the NRA, and those simply worried about the continual erosion of our rights as crafted by the Founding Fathers. Why I am being contacted now has to do with the fact that last year Simon & Schuster published my...

The assault weapons ban proposed by US President Barack Obama on Wednesday faces quicksand in Congress, where Republicans are in a position to defeat any such a measure. Instead, lawmakers in the House and Senate could address some of Obama's other proposals, including a universal background check for all gun purchases and a ban on high-capacity magazines. The debate comes in the aftermath of last month's tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut that left 20 children and six adults dead. Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein is preparing to introduce a bill next Thursday that would ban assault...

(Reuters) - Islamist fighters seized dozens of Western and Algerian hostages in a dawn raid on a natural gas facility deep in the Sahara on Wednesday and demanded France halt a new offensive against rebels in neighboring Mali. Three people, among them one British and one French, were reported killed, but details were sketchy and numbers of those held at Tigantourine ranged from 41 foreigners - including perhaps seven Americans as well as Japanese and Europeans - to over 100 local staff, held separately and less closely watched.   What is clear is that with a dramatic counterpunch to this...

With the hysteria brewing over the upcoming debt ceiling crisis and the uproar over gun control, people are concentrating on what the right hand of government is doing.  They are paying scant attention to the left hand which is feverishly nominating people to positions of power that we know very little about. The media is virtually burying the stories on most of Obama’s choices for his second term.  Those we already know like Janet Napolitano and John Kerry are really not worth the effort to talk about.  We know what we are getting with them, the book has been opened...

The White House on Wednesday blasted a web ad released by the National Rifle Association using President Barack Obama’s daughters to criticize the president on gun control as “repugnant and cowardly." The NRA released the ad Tuesday, a day before Obama announced a package of proposals aimed at curbing gun violence in the wake of a mass shooting in Newtown, Conn., last month. In strikingly personal terms, the ad calls Obama an "elitist hypocrite" for allowing Secret Service protection for daughters even as he calls for tighter gun laws. "Why is [Obama] skeptical about putting armed security in schools when...

The Federal Aviation Administration on Wednesday ordered U.S. airlines to temporarily stop flying Boeing's 787 Dreamliner following a series of mishaps. The agency said the decision to ground Boeing 787s was prompted by a second incident involving lithium ion battery failure. Earlier Wednesday, Japan's two leading airlines grounded their fleets of Boeing 787s after one of the Dreamliner passenger jets made an emergency landing.

A new federal assault weapons ban and background checks of all gun buyers, which President Obama is expected to propose on Wednesday, might have done little to prevent the massacre in Newtown, Conn., last month. The semiautomatic rifle that Adam Lanza used to shoot 20 schoolchildren and 6 adults complied with Connecticut’s assault weapons ban, the police said, and he did not buy the gun himself. But another proposal that Mr. Obama is expected to make could well have slowed Mr. Lanza’s rampage: banning high-capacity magazines, like the 30-round magazines that the police said Mr. Lanza used, which have been...

During the 2012 election season the American people were subjected to hundreds of campaign ads. Among these were several geared towards women, and many of these were paid for by Planned Parenthood. According to Planned Parenthood, Mitt Romney was bad for women because he wanted to cut federal funding for the organization, thereby depriving millions of women of "vital services." We heard a lot about cancer screenings in these ads, but very little about abortions. The reality is that abortion is big business for Planned Parenthood, and Uncle Sam continues to be a complicit financier of the organization's ghoulish practices....

A limit on magazine capacity is emerging as a leading contender for the something that supposedly must be done in response to last month's massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. A ban on "large-capacity ammunition feeding devices" is one of the new gun restrictions approved by the New York legislature this week and one of the measures President Obama wants Congress to enact. The rationale for such limits is that mass murderers need "large-capacity" magazines, while law-abiding citizens don't. Once again, conservatives have latched onto the bait tossed out by progressives in their never-ending campaign to grab guns from the hands of law-abiding citizens. Gun control is just one aspect of the Progressive agenda; in essence, they want control of everyone and everything any way they can. Toward this end, they will tell you anything to get what they want. For example, they say they are multiculturalists, right up until election season when cultures become pawns to move around the political battlefield. All non-compliant free-thinkers are dealt with accordingly. Consider the war on women last year contrived to convince...

Maria Medina-Soto inhaled deeply, wiped away a falling tear and began telling her story as an undocumented immigrant from Mexico. She explained the difficulty of being away from her siblings for the last 16 years, her fear of driving due to the possibility for deportation and her hope for a better future. Medina-Soto, 37, of Dayton, was one of four people who spoke Tuesday morning at the Keeping Families Together campaign kickoff sponsored by Causa, the heavily Latino immigrant rights group based in Salem. The campaign focuses on immigration reform and involves individuals, community organizations and elected officials. During the...

Rhonda Hight was at a gun show with her husband but she wasn’t looking for a gun, she was looking for a purse to carry one in. “All they had was these little type, cheap bags that didn’t have any design or anything like that” she told KRMG news. That made Rhonda think about a way to start a business and fill a need all at the same time. After a little checking around she found a line of bags and began talking to them “I started giving them some feedback on what they don’t have” she said. That led...

Pardon us, U.S. House of Representatives — is that… is that mud on your face? Don’t worry, you’re not the only government group to get caught allegedly downloading pirated content from the Internets. A new report claims that someone or multiple someones in the offices of the U.S. House of Representatives have been catching up on TV and movies by illegally downloading content recently. U.S. News & World Report’s “Washington Whispers” blog says it got its hands on data compiled by ScanEye, a site that checks on which IP addresses have been downloading stuff on BiTorrent.
  • Obama Provokes the American People

January 16, 2013 BEGIN TRANSCRIPT RUSH: President Obama today is taking action that a majority of Americans disagree with. He's going down a road a majority of people disagree with. He knows it. The question is, why? Why is Barack Obama literally trying to push people to snap? Why is he doing this? It's as though in some way he's attacking the very sanity of people in this country. Why is he doing this? Why is he deliberately making people so upset? What is driving him? Anybody got any ideas? I've been watching the children-as-human-shields show that is now going...

Gov. Rick Perry released the following statement regarding President Obama's executive actions: "The Vice President's committee was appointed in response to the tragedy at Newtown, but very few of his recommendations have anything to do with what happened there. "Guns require a finger to pull the trigger. The sad young man who did that in Newtown was clearly haunted by demons and no gun law could have saved the children in Sandy Hook Elementary from his terror. "There is evil prowling in the world - it shows up in our movies, video games and online fascinations, and finds its way...

The newest phenomenon discovered in medicine is one few people want to discuss, even businesses that are probably snickering in delight. It's called the Obesity Survival Paradox. Essentially it means that fat to obese people live longer than people of normal weight. Apparently Reverse Epidemiology became known in 1999 with heart failure patients. It was found that a body mass index (BMI) of 30.0 to 34.9 enjoyed lower mortality than normal weight patients. The same for peripheral artery disease and post recovery from cardiac bypass surgery. Even fat people with health problems live longer than thinner people. Go figure. Scientists...

President Barack Obama‘s proposed appointment of former Republican Senator Chuck Hagel as US Secretary of Defense is generating interest and even approval, on the far left. Phyllis Bennis, of the Washington DC based Institute for Policy Studies, wrote an article for The Nation, January 8, 2013, posing the question “Will Chuck Hagel’s Appointment Actually Help the Anti-War Left?” While claiming that Hagel is a conservative, Bennis outlined advantages to leftist “peace movement” activists of Chuck Hagel becoming US Secretary of Defense. Bennis is particularly happy that Hagel’s appointment is a clear signal that Obama intends to move forward with the...
