Immigration Reform: Rupert Murdoch and the Fox News Factor 9:37AM Saturday February 2, 2013 (WASHINGTON) -- In the brewing battle over a path to citizenship for the nation's 11 million undocumented immigrants, Fox News Channel is uniquely positioned to play a make-or-break role. The question is, will it? Advocates on both sides of a proposed U.S. immigration overhaul are closely eyeing the nation's most-watched cable news network -- and megaphone -- for politically-conservative causes as it joins a rapidly escalating national debate. Will the network and its high-profile opinionators fan the flames of opposition to a comprehensive reform plan, or...

As many as 60 students have been forced to withdraw from Harvard University after cheating on a final exam last year in what has become the largest academic scandal to hit the Ivy League school in recent memory. Michael Smith, Harvard's Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, sent an email on Friday saying that more than half of the students who faced the school's Administrative Board have been suspended for a time. Roughly 125 undergraduates were involved in the scandal, which came to light at the end of the spring semester after a professor noticed similarities on a...

WASHINGTON — President Obama has taken on N.B.A. stars on the White House basketball court, golfed at the air base that houses Air Force One and even tried to polish his legendarily woeful bowling at the presidential lanes. But now it turns out that he has picked up a new hobby: skeet shooting at Camp David. At least that is the way he tells it. In an interview published last week, Mr. Obama said that he and his guests shot clay pigeons “all the time” at the retreat in the Maryland mountains, a revelation that surprised many and drew a...

While no other industry enjoys this kind of special government protection, the National Rifle Association had pushed the law for years as its top priority. It hailed the act as "the most significant piece of pro-gun legislation in twenty years." They were right. The cost of being an 'informed' voter - as opposed to a bigotted closed-minded ignoramus - is high, from the time spent following (and interpreting) the news in the paper, online, and on the television. As the following clip notes, "becoming an informed voter is competing with a lot of other needs in your life," from American Idol watching to eating Cheetos in the bath. The contraction was an unexpected reversal of months of modest economic growth since the end of the recession in mid-2009. Egypt outraged by video of protest violence Updated: 12:56, Saturday, 02 February 2013 After eight days of protests that killed nearly 60 people, a video of one demonstrator stripped, dragged across the ground and beaten has fired Egyptians to a new level of outrage. Hamada Saber, a middle-aged man, lay in a police hospital this morning, after he was shown on television naked, covered in soot and thrashed by half a dozen policemen who had pulled him to an armoured vehicle near the presidential palace.

It is one of life's great mysteries that so many liberal people are so callous when it comes to aborting fetuses. I mean, the Democratic convention last summer was almost a pro-abortion pep rally, as a variety of pro-choice speakers, including the self-proclaimed "Catholic woman" Caroline Kennedy, knelt at the altar of "reproductive rights." Recently, another woman who calls herself a Catholic, Mary Elizabeth Williams, wrote a shocking article for Salon. Entitled "So What if Abortion Ends Life?" Williams starkly states: "I believe that life starts at conception. And it's never stopped me from being pro-choice." In the body...

With Brown out, GOP mulls Romney energy (He's back; Mr. RomneyCARE and family for MA Senate)) "Massachusetts Republicans are desperately scrambling to find a strong Senate candidate to replace Scott Brown, with some even trying to persuade Mitt Romney’s wife or son to jump into the race to avert another electoral disaster. ... Other GOP leaders also raised the prospect of Mitt’s eldest son, Tagg, launching a surprise Senate campaign. Tagg Romney was a close campaign adviser and surrogate for his father and is a successful businessman living in Belmont."

The US was keeping its doors open for direct talks with the Iranian government with regard to its controversial nuclear programme, US Vice President Joe Biden has said. "We will stop Iran from getting a nuclear weapon," Xinhua quoted Biden as telling the Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper. He said Iran's nuclear weapon must be stopped as it posed "threat to national security of the US". However, he added that there existed "time and space" in terms of "successful diplomacy". While a window of time for negotiations would be kept open, Biden said "it would not be unlimited, and by no means...

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has unveiled the country's newest fighter jet, which officials claim can evade radar. Ahmadinejad said at a Saturday ceremony broadcast on state TV that Qaher-313, or Dominant-313, showed Iran's will to "capture peaks." Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi says Qaher is "fully indigenous," designed and built by Iranian aerospace experts. The domestically designed and developed Qaher-313 is similar to the US-built F/A-18, the report said. Photos released by the official IRNA news agency shows Qaher as a single-seat jet, described as a fighter-bomber that can combat both other aircraft and ground targets.

Southern Baptists have changed their mind about Roe. When will United Methodists join them? Last week about 100,000 or more marched in the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. This year they commemorated 40 years since the 1973 Supreme Court decision constitutionalizing abortion on demand. Supporting the march and the pro-life cause were leaders of AmericaÂ’s two largest religious communions, the 68 million-member Roman Catholic Church and the 16 million-member Southern Baptist Convention. Meanwhile, agencies for the third largest, the United Methodist Church, crafted a news release virtually celebrating Roe v. Wade. But 40 years ago, both Southern Baptists...

North Disguising Test Site Activities By Mok Yong Jae [2013-02-01 21:07 ] North Korea has installed a screen over the entrance to one of the test tunnels at its nuclear test site in Kilju County, North Hamkyung Province, inhibiting intelligence gathering activities and raising fears of an impending nuclear detonation. A government source explained today, “It is believed that a roof-shaped obstruction has been installed. It appears to be a measure to stop leaks of information on preparations for a nuclear test, which are currently in their final stages.” A second source went on, “It is one way for North...

While John McCain was playing kissy face with John Kerry in Kerry’s confirmation hearing, Dianne Feinstein was pushing gun control, Obama was planning immigration legislation, and Leon Panetta was lifting the ban on women serving in combat. There was so much SGO in Obama’s full court oppress last week, we need to take some time and sort it all out. (For those just joining us, “SGO” is an acronym for “s*** going on,” a comprehensively useful term coined by former SEAL Al Clark.) If John Kerry were Barry Obama, he’d spend the next four years blaming his predecessor for the...

A perspective on our president from Down Under. In Herman Wouk’s classic World War II novel, The Caine Mutiny, there is a moment when a group of the ship’s officers are getting away from the increasingly eccentric Captain Queeq by relaxing ashore. Suddenly the malcontent Lieutenant Keefer asks the others: “Does it occur to you that Captain Queeg may be insane? In fact Queeg is not insane, at least not at that time. He is simply grappling, more and more disastrously, with a job too big for him. Come the crisis of a typhoon, he becomes paralyzed and nearly sinks...

... Obama says 2013 can be a year of solid economic growth, but only if Washington gets out of the way. In his weekly radio and Internet address, Obama says there are signs of progress in real estate, manufacturing and job-creation. But other signs are worrying. Unemployment ticked up from 7.8 percent in December to 7.9 percent in January. And the Commerce Department says the economy shrank at an annual rate of 0.1 percent in the final months of 2012. Obama says the U.S. must lower health care costs and close tax loopholes for corporations and the wealthy.

Thandiwe testified he purchased a gun “to enforce beliefs he’d developed about white people during his years as an anthropology major at the University of West Georgia.” “I was trying to prove a point that Europeans had colonized the world, as a result, we see a lot of evil today,” he said. “In terms of slavery, it was something that needed to be answered for. I was trying to spread the message of making white people mend.” The night before at a “Peace Party,” he was enraged that two white people were there. “I was upset,” he said. “I was...
