  • Zimmerman Brother: Obama 'Bullied' My Family

George Zimmerman was back in court today for a hearing on the start date for his trial on murder charges. Zimmerman, of course, was the Hispanic neighborhood watchman in Sanford, Florida, who trailed a young black man named Trayvon Martin after calling 911, got into an altercation with Martin in which Martin ended up pounding Zimmerman’s head into the pavement, and then ended up shooting Martin in the chest. The media used the Zimmerman case as an opportunity to bully Americans over their supposed racial intolerance. Even the President of the United States weighed in in the midst of an...

You know America’s changing when leftists have even infiltrated Texas schools, EAGnews.org finds. According to the website txcscopereview.com, a lesson plan for 6th graders in government schools reads as follows: Notice socialist/communist nations use symbolism on their flags representing various aspects of their economic system. Imagine a new socialist nation is creating a flag and you have been put in charge of creating a flag. Use symbolism to represent aspects of socialism/communism on your flag. What kind of symbolism/colors would you use? Texas legislators looked none too kindly on this revelation as they questioned the curriculum’s creators at a recent...

It's been a busy day at the market in downtown Volos. Angeliki Ioanitou has sold a decent quantity of olive oil and soap, while her friend Maria has done good business with her fresh pies. But not a single euro has changed hands – none of the customers on this drizzly Saturday morning has bothered carrying money at all. For many, browsing through the racks of second-hand clothes, electrical appliances and homemade jams, the need to survive means money has been usurped. "It's all about exchange and solidarity, helping one another out in these very hard times," enthused Ioanitou, her...

They were hired to recruit people willing to open their homes to abused children and prepare them for the demands of foster parenting. But an audit released today found that among 20 community agencies hired by the state, several had misspent or failed to refund a total of $12.2 million from January 2010 to June 2011 —some by awarding themselves bonuses, throwing themselves a party at a country club, or hiring others to do the work and pocketing the proceeds. The audit by the nonpartisan Office of Legislative Services found the department spends $39.9 million in contracts a year to...

MEXICO CITY——Mexican authorities are searching for a gang of hooded gunmen who raped six Spanish tourists in Acapulco, as security at the once-glitzy Pacific beach resort continues to deteriorate. Five armed, masked men burst into a rented bungalow on the outskirts of the city early Monday, held a group of Spanish tourists at gunpoint, tied up the men and raped the women, according to Acapulco mayor Luis Walton. The attackers also took cash, mobile telephones and credit cards from the victims, who are now under the protection of Mexican authorities. ... Politics becomes amusing when liberalism becomes theatrical with high-minded gestures. Chicago’s government, which is not normally known for elevated thinking, is feeling so morally upright and financially flush that it proposes to rise above the banal business of maximizing the value of its employees’ and retirees’ pension fund assets. Although seven funds have cumulative unfunded liabilities of $25 billion, Chicago will sacrifice the growth of those assets to the striking of a political pose so pure it is untainted by practicality. Emulating New York and California, two deep blue states with mammoth unfunded pension liabilities, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has...

'"Several hundred" Islamist militants have been killed since France launched an offensive in Mali last month, the French defence minister has said. Jean-Yves Le Drian said they had been killed in airstrikes and direct combat with French troops. Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius has said that France may begin pulling out of Mali as early as March. In a newspaper interview, he said that "if everything goes as planned, the number of troops should diminish". France has an estimated 4,000 troops in Mali and officials from multilateral institutions and dozens of countries have been meeting in Brussels to discuss how...

This was the rule concocted by the Soviet tyrants that basically said a nation could never regain freedom once it fell under communist rule. In my simple way of looking at such matters, this rule translated into: “What’s mine is mine, what’s yours is negotiable.”We have a somewhat similar situation with American fiscal policy. Pasadena Pawn and Gun, a gun retailer and pawnshop 15 miles south of Baltimore, is pretty much sold out of America’s most wanted gun, the AR-15-style semiautomatic rifle. Since the massacre in Newtown, Conn., in December, the AR-15, the military-style weapon that the police say was used in the shootings, has been selling fast here and across the nation. Before Newtown, the rifles sold for about $1,100, on average. Now some retailers charge twice that. At...

The thing about making television programs is, the folks who don’t do it always think it’s easy. After all, Seinfeld was nothing more than an NYC apartment set, some writers, and a few unknown actors. Of course, given the number of failed sitcoms, we know its a bit harder than that. Which is why Netflixs’ decision to get into original production is brave, risky, and had a very strong likelihood of a disastrous end. After all, HBO has had its share of hits and misses, and it’s been at original series production for a very long time. Then Netflix looks...

John Hickenlooper's State of the State speech Thursday, although most are cool to tougher gun laws. Whether it was new state Sen. Larry Crowder, R-Alamosa, new state Rep. Leroy Garcia, D-Pueblo, or veteran state Rep. Ed Vigil, D-Alamosa, the governor's call to universal background checks on gun sales didn't inspire. All three called themselves Second Amendment supporters. "I guess it's a subject for further discussion," said Garcia, the brand new House District 46 lawmaker. "But I liked the portions of his speech about...

[snip] But Obama’s proposal would only postpone the $85 billion in automatic cuts, scheduled to take effect March 1, by a few months until a larger deal could be reached. [snip] The CBO projects, absent changes in spending and/or taxes, that federal debt held by the public will reach levels akin to 76 percent of the total economy, the largest percentage since 1950. It would tick up to 77 percent by the end of the decade and rise even further in years beyond that. Obama did not offer a specific proposal or release any new plans Tuesday. But he said...

In honor of President Reagan's 102nd birthday, a record number of governors declare "Ronald Reagan Day" in their states. Each year the Ronald Reagan Legacy Project asks governors from all 50 states to issue a proclamation declaring Feb. 6 "Ronald Reagan Day" in their respective states. Today, the Ronald Reagan Legacy Project proudly commends the 40 governors -- Republicans and Democrats alike -- who have chosen to honor President Reagan's 102nd birthday. "Ronald Reagan led America forward to defeat the threats to our prosperity of high taxes, inflation, and recession at home and a surging Soviet Empire abroad. He left...

Yes, the Dow and S&P500 hit new highs. But the rally’s hiding huge risks: “GDP turns negative as U.S. economic recovery stalls,” screams one headline. Another hears a “Ticking Time Bomb.” World’s central bankers at Davos warn cheap money’s blowing a new asset bubble. Dr. Doom, Marc Faber, “loves the high odds of a ‘big-time’ market crash.” Another, Nouriel Roubini, says “prepare for a perfect storm,” while Bond King Bill Gross sees a “credit supernova” dead ahead. Rally? Bubble? Crash? Global? Is the economy “peaking?” Are we on a long, slow-growth downhill slide to a 1% GDP? Is our banking...

Experts manufacture whatever facts an activist, politician, or bureaucrat needs."Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not his own facts," the late Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan (D-N.Y.) famously quipped. But when it comes to social and environmental problems nowadays, nearly everyone thinks he is entitled to his own facts, and an army of experts is on hand to manufacture and promote the carefully curated truths they require. The Progressive Era dream of empowering nonpartisan experts to solve social, economic, and environmental problems has failed spectacularly. What happened?Breakthrough Institute founders Ted Nordhaus and Michael Shellenberger grapple with this question in...

Japan's deputy prime minister has retracted his suggestion that old people should "hurry up and die" rather than have their live-saving treatment funded by the taxpayer. Taro Aso, 72, was speaking at a meeting of the National Council on Social Security Reforms which was discussing the cost of prolonging elderly people's lives with expensive treatment funded by taxes. Referring to seriously ill patients as "tube people", Aso said he would feel bad knowing his life was draining the country's economy. He said during the meeting: "Heaven forbid if you are forced to live on when you want to die. I...

Washington (CNN) -- As President Obama continues to push for new gun control measures, new FBI data shows that January was the second-highest month on record for gun background checks. FBI figures posted Tuesday show there were 2,495,400 background checks done through the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System, known as NICS. The number was more than 1 million higher than any previous January. Also in January, 8,980 of the background checks resulted in gun purchase denials. U.S. law requires background checks for all people who try to buy firearms from federally licensed dealers.
