  • First Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell Trial

    National Review Online ^ | February 14, 2013 | Wesley J. Smith
At present, there are three small human safety embryonic stem cell studies. All deal with macular degeneration-type conditions. And now, a human trial looks to soon get underway in Japan using induced pluripotent stem cells, that is, stem cells made from a patient’s own skin or other tissues. From the Nature News story: Having already received IRB approval at her home institution, Takahashi can now move towards the final step before patient recruitment: getting health ministry approval.  She’s expected receive that in time for starting the trials during this fiscal year, ending March 2014. The trial will enroll six patients...

Fewer than one-fourth of House districts are competitive. That's bad news for Democrats.Democrats face twin struggles as they seek to retake the House majority they lost in 2010. First, the chamber has largely sorted itself out. With 96 percent of Democratic House members representing districts carried by President Obama and 94 percent of Republican House lawmakers representing districts won by Mitt Romney, each party pretty much has the seats God intended. The House simply doesnt have much elasticity right now. Substantial gains would either require Democrats winning a bunch of Romney districts or Republicans capturing a lot of Obama districts....

Presidents’ State of the Union addresses are delivered in the chamber of the House of Representatives in the Capitol. The classical majesty of this building where laws are made symbolizes the idea that we live under the rule of law. Unfortunately, the 44th president is running an administration that too often seems to ignore the rule of law.“We can’t wait,” Barack Obama took to saying after the Republicans captured a majority in the House and refused to pass laws he wanted. He would act to get what he wanted regardless of law.One example: his recess appointments in January 2012 of...

The New York Times has a must-read up on how the GOP is losing the tech war and losing the youth vote. But tucked away in the piece, I found this: [W]e cant be afraid to call out Rush Limbaugh, said Goodwins fiance, S. E. Cupp, a New York Daily News columnist and a co-host ofThe Cycleon MSNBC. If we can get three Republicans on three different networks saying, What Rush Limbaugh said is crazy and stupid and dangerous, maybe thatll give other Republicans cover to denounce the talk-show host as well.

Who Tells Us What To Think? Does The Mainstream Media = The Matrix? By Michael Snyder February 14th, 2013 Do you believe that you really think for yourself? Did you come up with your attitudes, opinions and beliefs on your own, or are they continually being shaped and molded by someone else? Could it be possible that you and everyone around you is actually hooked into a real life version of "the matrix" that is constantly defining your reality for you? Sadly, the truth is that almost all of us have willingly hooked ourselves into a colossal media system that...

By Josh Eachus WEST LIBERTY, W.Va.Students and parents are questioning a college professor after she reportedly issued a syllabus that filtered students research options The syllabus tells students in a West Liberty University political science course what sources they can and cannot use. Among those students are asked not to use are The Onion, an openly fictitious parody of real-life news, and Fox News, a professional news organization. In the syllabus, the professor allegedly says, "The tagline Fox News makes me cringe." "One of our values at West Liberty is to encourage students to go out and inquire and gather...
  • Condom Candy, Lesbian Rape, and Ethical Chocolate: How the Left Likes to Celebrate Valentines

    02/14/2013 9:19:12 PM PST · by chessplayer · 4 replies
Not sure how to celebrate Valentine's Day this year? Left-wing groups and media such as The Sierra Club, Planned Parenthood and The Huffington Post have overtaken the holiday to promote their culture of sexual promiscuity and wacky environmentalism. From universities and medical clinics offering condom lollipops and free STD testing (and hosting plays about lesbian rape) and "green" websites dictating how "ethically" bought chocolate and flowers can save the planet, to disturbing LGBTQIA-themed gifts, the eco-friendly, gay-friendly, sex-obsessed left has plenty of ideas for how you should celebrate the holiday of love.
  • NBC's Williams Predicts Rubio's Water Sip 'Just Might Live On Forever'

On Wednesday's NBC Nightly News, anchor Brian Williams proclaimed that Florida Senator Marco Rubio taking a sip of water during his response to the State of the Union was "the televised moment from last night that just might live on forever." [Listen to the audio or watch the video after the jump] Williams expounded: "Well, it's one of the cruelest aspects of politics in the television age. No matter how well-crafted the content, no matter how thoughtful a person you are, it's the television moments, the superficial, purely visual moments that are often remembered forever instead. And that will certainly...
  • Sheila Jackson Lee, in Congress: 'I Stand Here as a Freed Slave'

    02/14/2013 8:47:01 PM PST · by chessplayer · 72 replies
Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Tex.) looks mighty good for a woman who has to be at least 148 years old. My take on her age is based on a statement the Congresswoman made today while objecting to impending spending reductions relating to sequestration in which she characterized herself as "a freed slave." Slavery as a legal institution ended in the U.S. in 1865 at the end of the Civil War. Here is what Ms. Jackson Lee said, in context (HT Rush Limbaugh): We are at the bone almost. And sequester that is across-the-board cuts will literally destroy us and put us...

Why Inflation In 2013 Is Imminent Economics / InflationFebruary 14, 2013 - 03:48 PM GMT By: Money Morning Jeff Uscher writes: Is a spike in the monetary base - currency in circulation plus bank reserves at the Fed - the first sign of imminent inflation? Art Cashin, the well-respected director of floor operations at the New York Stock Exchange for UBS, recently told King World News the increase in the monetary base may well be a sign of impending inflation. Monetary base, sometimes called high-powered money, is the basis for the bank lending that drives our economy. When interest rates...

An attempt by Senate Democrats to push through their controversial nominee for defense secretary, former Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., failed today on a 58-40 vote as Republicans said they havent been given answers to their questions. Among his opponents are 14 retired U.S. admirals and generals, including high-profile names such as Lt. Gen. William G. Boykin and Maj. Gen. Paul E. Vallely. Hagel has endorsed subjecting the U.S. to the U.N.s International Criminal Court, and hes sat on the board of numerous globalist groups promoting U.S. funding for the Third World.

The most disheartening event in the country this week wasnt the State of the Union address, though that was certainly ugly enough. And it wasnt the finale of the Chris Dorner rampage, which was certainly horrific enough in its waste of human life. From the standpoint of the picture it paints for us of America circa 2013, its the reaction to Dorner. The reaction of the Left to Dorner is hideous enough. Its personified by the vapid, disgusting and degenerate Marc Lamont Hill, who finds deep meaning and excitement in Dorners senseless mayhem and unhinged online ramblings If...

YORBA LINDA, Calif. On Tuesday evening, Feb. 12, a capacity crowd filled a replica of the White House East Room for a presentation at the Nixon Presidential Library & Museum. After that, they stood in line to buy autographed copies of my latest New York Times best-seller, "Heroes Proved." All of them heard: "Lyndon Johnson sent my brother and me to war in Vietnam. In his first address to our nation as president, Richard Nixon promised to bring us home. We're alive today because he kept his word." After the event, I listened to a rerun of our current...

Today, our friends at Twitchy reported that Lee Judge, a left-wing political cartoonist, illustrated a depraved caricature depicting the grave of ex-sniper, and Navy SEAL, Chris Kyle – with the caption “if only there had been a good guy around.”  This is wholly insensitive, and a craven attempt to smear an American hero who was tragically slain by a fellow veteran whom he was helping cope with PTSD.  But this is hardly the first time Judge has inked a cartoon that transgresses the bounds of decency in service of a left-wing political argument. For example, when the NRA first proposed...

Korea preparing for another rocket launch SEOUL, Feb. 15 (Yonhap) -- Recent progress in the construction of new facilities and a general increase in activity at North Korea's Musudan-ri launch site may be an indication that the belligerent nation might launch another rocket following the detonation of its third nuclear device, a Web site specializing in North Korean affairs said Friday. "Construction of new facilities at the Tonghae Satellite launching ground, previously disrupted by typhoons that ravaged the east coast last summer, has made important progress since late Oct. 2012," U.S....
