  • Boy Got a Haircut Like His Military Step-Brother, School Suspended Him

There is nothing quite like the petty despotism of the public school system. A boy from McMinnville, Tennessee, was suspended after coming to Bobby Ray Memorial Elementary School with a haircut deemed inappropriate by the principal. It was a "high and tight" military-style haircut that the boy had requested so that he would look more like his step-brother, an active-duty soldier. The principal did not budge, leaving the boy's mother no choice but to shave his head so that he could come back to school.

SISTERON, France — The German co-pilot accused of crashing a passenger plane in the French Alps frequented a gliding club near the crash site as a child with his parents, according to a member of the club. Francis Kefer, a member of the club in the town of Sisteron, said on i-Tele television that Andreas Lubitz' family and other members of the gliding club in his home town of Montabaur, Germany, came to the region regularly between 1996 and 2003. ... The crash site is about 50 kilometers (30 miles) away from the Aero-club de Sisteron glider airfield.

MANCHESTER, UK – House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and a delegation of senior House lawmakers visited the North of England on Friday to meet with Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne and discuss opportunities to deepen the economic and security ties between the US and the UK. Chancellor Osborne hosted the delegation for a working lunch at Peover Hall, which General George Patton and the Third Army used during World War II to plan and train for the Normandy breakout. There, participants had a fruitful discussion on the state of the British economy, our shared efforts to defeat ISIL, and...

The sudden announcement of the charges Bergdahl faces, reinvigorated the sometimes fierce political debate that took place last year after the alleged deserter was secretly traded for five high-level Taliban prisoners from the military detention center at the Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, Marine base. Equally controversial was a legal watchdog group’s announcement that it had already filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) in order to have a federal judge force the Obama-appointed commanders to release records regarding the U.S. Army’s review of the disappearance of Sgt. • UKRAINE: Running Supplies with the Dudayev Battalion: Russian Roulette (Dispatch 92)

Published on Feb 8, 2015 Thousands of foreign nationals have flocked to join the fighting in eastern Ukraine since the conflict began last April. Though both sides have benefited from foreign fighters, many are Russian soldiers who traveled to Ukraine voluntarily or followed orders from their superiors, and most have fought with the breakaway Donetsk People’s Republic. Their presence has helped tip the scales of the battle in favor of the separatists. Many of the Russian fighters hail from Chechnya and are loyal to Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov. Don’t you wish that once – just once — someone would actually stand up and say something that everybody knows to be true: that Harry Reid, who apparently has been talked into retirement by a couple of thugs — excuse me! an exercise machine! — is a no-account, corrupt, nasty, petty, lying scumbag who enabled Barry Hussein to impose his anti-constitutional agenda on a big-hearted but soft-headed American public? One unfortunate day in the future, America will again have a Democratic majority in the U.S. Senate. And when that day happens, conservatives had better start digging foxholes, because their worst nightmare will be the majority leader. Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nevada, the former hyper-partisan majority leader (and present minority leader) announced yesterday that he will retire at the end of his term in 2017. He named Chuck Schumer, D-New York, as his heir apparent. As a Westerner from a blue state that could flip to red at any time, Reid was forced to take account of libertarian views. Nevada is,...

The climate in the state Capitol is such that you half-expect to turn a corner and find Lord Cornwallis’s fife-and-drum corps belting out “The World Turned Upside Down.” A Legislature with massive Republican majorities is on the verge of thumbing its nose at anti-tax guru Grover Norquist by raising $1 billion in new spending for transportation. It has legalized a form of marijuana. And in the midst of unrelenting hostility toward Obamacare, GOP lawmakers have brokered an insurance mandate to provide for children with autism. “All we're saying is we're not going to deport you," was the big lie President Barack Obama used when he announced his executive action on immigration. Despite being repeated time and again by politicians and the media during the DHS funding debate to describe the president’s action, it’s still a lie. You won’t hear the song about the decline of the nation’s power and influence overseas along American rivers out on its farms or in its factories, nor in its offices and homes, but only among the self-obsessed chattering class in Manhattan, Washington, and in self-important academic enclave after enclave where it’s an award winning soundtrack. Overwhelmingly approved by that state’s Republican-controlled legislature, the law allows businesses and workers, citing their religious beliefs, to refuse service to anyone they find objectionable. What if it's not injustice that has led so many blacks across America to feel disenfranchised? What if it's judgment? Last week on two separate occasions guests on Sean Hannity's radio program reiterated Jesse Jackson's decades old mantra that "blacks can't be racist because we have no institutional power." This may be a clandestine way to excuse blacks for destroying cities like Ferguson, MO in the name of justice for Michael Brown, but it's hardly worth addressing seriously. Unknown to many is the fact that blacks hold more government jobs by percentage than any other ethnicity. In an article entitled...

In terms of skills and education, Israel probably has the highest level of human capital per person in the whole world. Yet it’s per capita output is mediocre – in the middle of the developed country pack. Why is that? Because Israel has been slow to adopt capitalism. How do I know that? Because Bibi Netanyahu told me that in an interview in Dallas, several years before he became prime minister. Once he became Israel’s leader, he was been able to do something about it. In recent years Israel has become a center for entrepreneurship, innovation and capitalist spirit. But...

Given all the bad press Islam has gotten over the last few years, it might seem surprising at first glance that Islam is still such a vibrant, fast-growing religion. Even setting aside the fact that Muhammad was a bad guy and Allah doesn’t exist, the press about Islam over the last few years has been almost universally negative. Yesterday Governor Mike Pence of Indiana signed into law the state’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act. The action has drawn sharp criticism by people and politicians who directly oppose religious freedoms and by those who are simply unaware of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, the federal model for Indiana’s new law. Here is what you should know about these types of religious freedom legislation: What is the Religious Freedom Restoration Act? The Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) is a 1993 United States federal law aimed at preventing laws that substantially burden a person's free exercise of religion. The legislation was introduced...

The Boy Scout Motto is "Be Prepared." Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, who achieved the rank of Eagle Scout as a teen, has taken that motto seriously. His Eagle Scout status has him so prepared, he indicated this week, he's ready to serve as commander in chief of the U.S. military. The Republican governor and likely 2016 presidential candidate spoke on Wednesday at a Chamber of Commerce luncheon in Phoenix, Arizona. The event was closed to press, but video of Walker's conversation with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt was recorded by the opposition research group American Bridge and released by the...
  • ISIS Posts Images of Women With Kalashnikovs

As reports on sex slavery and sidelining of women emerge out of territory controlled by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), the militant group’s supporters are trying to counter that by depicting a women-friendly utopia on social media. In one picture posted online, as shown by the Independent, a group of women pose in their burqas as they raise what appears to be Kalashnikov rifles, a sharp contrast to the role ISIS stipulates women should take. Another photo shows five women posing in front of a BMW with the ISIS flag on it. Another post shows a series...

The Supreme Court has ruled the federal government is allowed to destroy the long-gun registry data pertaining to Quebec, so the province is going to spend tens of millions of dollars to create its own from scratch. Quebec Public Security Minister Lise Theriault reacted with dismay on Friday to the Supreme Court's decision that the federal government can flush the data it has on long gun owners in the province. She says Quebec had no choice but to create its own database to keep track of weapons.

Much of urban America, and New York City in particular, is in crisis. Cities are becoming desirable again, but planning is still stuck in the post-war mentality of decline. Rents are skyrocketing as new housing supply pales against incoming demand, and while politicians and planners might see what’s going on, they are powerless to stand up to the NIMBY forces and stop it. From Palo Alto to Williamsburg back to Santa Monica, our wealthiest and most in-demand neighborhoods remain in their stunted states, walled off to growth, radiating everything from gentrification to global inequality. Our inner suburbs don’t densify, and...

They say I might have turned cancerous, but there's a fair chance that other organs could go rogue too. So why me? Correction. I used to be Angelina’s ovary. Now I’m a grey clump drying in a steel tray, dying in a steel tray. Is that any end for a decent ovary? Clamped, cut, avulsed, evicted, tossed into a cold emptiness, I lie here leaching out my juices and turning into a sticky pebble that will soon begin to stink. Sure, I’m famous. She’s famous, is Angelina. I powered her fame. I made her, though you wouldn’t think that from...

Since last week, Fox News’ Eric Bolling has been going after Azealia Banks over comments about what she hates about America. Here’s the full comment in question, from Banks’ recent Playboy interview: I hate everything about this country. Like, I hate fat white Americans. All the people who are crunched into the middle of America, the real fat and meat of America, are these racist conservative white people who live on their farms. Those little teenage girls who work at Kmart and have a racist grandma—that’s really America. In response, Bolling deemed Banks his “fool of the week” on The...
