  • WH: ‘Common Sense’ That Iran Will Use Money From Lifted Sanctions to Boost Economy, Not Fund Terror

    05/06/2015 7:27:29 AM PDT · by PROCON · 14 replies ^ | May 6, 2015 | Patrick Goodenough
( – White House press secretary Josh Earnest acknowledged Tuesday that the U.S. cannot proscribe how Iran chooses to spend the money it will get as sanctions are eased under a proposed nuclear deal. But he said it was “common sense” to expect that the regime would use it to improve the ailing economy, rather than to step up funding for terrorism or destabilizing activities in the region. Earnest said what had brought the Iranians to the negotiating table in the first place was a desire to ease the effects of sanctions imposed by the international community over the nuclear...

Hillary Rodham Clinton appears to have initially weathered a barrage of news about her use of a private email account when she was secretary of state and the practices of her family’s foundation, an indication that she is starting her second presidential bid with an unusual durability among Democratic voters. Americans now view Mrs. Clinton more favorably and more see her as a strong leader than they did earlier in the year, despite weeks of scrutiny about her ethics, a New York Times/CBS News poll has found. And nearly nine in 10 Democrats say the nation is ready to elect...

It is already clear that Marilyn Mosby, the state’s attorney who is prosecuting the Baltimore Six is not up to the responsibilities of her job. The only questions are: 1. how deeply incompetent?; and 2. what consequences will result from her bungling? The second question is the more important one, for Mosby has set up her prosecution as a response to the “No justice, no peace” movement. If and when she fails to secure a conviction through her ineptitude, then by the standard of the mob to which she is catering, more riots will be justifiable, and therefore the likely...
  • Smoggy thinking on pollution

The war on hydrocarbon fuels is based on two feeble legs – “it causes global warming, and it creates pollution.”

Both legs are unsound, especially the pollution claims.

No sensible person approves of pollution of air, water, land, or public places by humans.

Have a look at some real pollution.
But no pollution whatsoever is caused by the main product of the combustion of hydrocarbons, carbon dioxide. This is a colorless, non-toxic gas of life on which all plants (and animals) depend.

In these days of carbon neurosis, coal power gets blamed for all bad things, even the Asian Smog.

Full Title: ISIS seems to threaten anti-Muslim blogger Pamela Geller in message boasting of ‘71 trained soldiers in 15 different states’ ISIS appears to declare war on anti-Muslim blogger Pamela Geller on Tuesday in an ominous online message claiming it has fighters across America ready to attack "any target we desire." A couple in Florida attracted quite a bit of attention last summer, when a video of them having the often-cliched “sex on the beach” made its way to YouTube for all to see. A description of the explicit video was provided by WFLA: The couple didn’t hold back. Bold and brazen with their bodies, they were grinding in full view. Bradenton Beach Police were called, and the couple was eventually arrested. The indecent encounter was captured by a sunbathing great-grandmother on her iPhone. There are claims even a three-year-old saw the couple. On Monday, the couple appeared before a judge....

Neighborhoods matter. That’s the upshot of two fascinating new studies from Harvard economist Raj Chetty and his colleagues. In the 1990s, the federal government launched an experiment, called the Moving to Opportunity project. It created a lottery for housing vouchers that would allow the winners to move out of high-poverty neighborhoods into low-poverty ones. The project’s initial findings were a disappointment for people — like me — who argue that culture matters quite a lot. It did find that neighborhood poverty was a big factor in determining economic mobility, but researchers saw little evidence that getting poor people out of...

Hillary Clinton was in Nevada yesterday, talking to Hispanics on Cinco de Mayo about immigration reform, pushing amnesty and a path to citizenship. You can watch the C-Span video here. Note her awkwardness when she's reading her prepared remarks. And she doesn't seem very comfortable in front of her audience. Beyond that, Clinton has spent the last couple of weeks shoring up her base of support in the black and Hispanic communities. She will win both of those groups, but unless she can turn them out in numbers approaching those of President Obama, she will be in big trouble.

Like other junior senators, he performs his share of Senate chores, including presiding over the chamber. But the similarities end there. Among this year’s crop of 13 newly minted senators, Mr. Cotton, who served one term in the House, has emerged early on as the most vocal and polarizing newcomer, set apart by his headline-grabbing foreign policy. Congress has the responsibility to ensure that any international trade agreement entered into by the United States must serve the national interest, not merely the interests of those crafting the proposal in secret. It must improve the quality of life, the earnings, and the per-capita wealth of everyday working Americans. An accident on an oil well-maintenance platform killed two workers and injured 10 off Mexico’s coast on Tuesday, company officials reported, blaming the incident on the collapse of one of the rig’s legs. State oil company Petroleos Mexicanos, or Pemex, said the Troll Solution rig was maneuvering to perform offshore maintenance at the time of the accident in the Bay of Campeche, in the Gulf of Mexico. Pemex blamed a structural failure in the leg. The rig was “listing” but had not sunk, the company said via Twitter.

An Auburn woman calling herself an ambassador for God and his son, Jesus Christ, filed a federal lawsuit Friday against all homosexuals. Sylvia Driskell, 66, said in the suit that she is petitioning the U.S. District Court of Omaha to be heard "in the matter of homosexuality. Is homosexuality a sin, or not a sin?" In a seven-page letter framed as a lawsuit, she cited Bible passages that described homosexuality as an abomination and against nature, and she said never before has the nation or the state been "besiege(d) by sin." "Will all the judges of this nation judge God...

ThugThere is a split in America and it’s as wide as the Grand Canyon. We can look at what’s been going on in Baltimore and depending on what team we’re on, we see what we want to see. Liberals, black and white, see poor people who have had enough. It wasn’t a riot to some on the left. It was an “uprising,” the actual word used by a left wing professor on CNN. Conservatives, yes, mainly white, but more than a few blacks too, see dysfunction. They see crime and drugs and kids dropping out of school. What entrepreneur, they...

HOUSTON – High-horsepower pumps and big hydraulic fracturing trucks, the primary tools used to bust open U.S. shale rock, have carved out parking spaces of their own at the Offshore Technology Conference. They’re an attraction for foreign onlookers interested in the technology that brought a rush of American oil to market. But more and more, they’re a jumping off point for oil producers looking to break open hard sandstone reservoirs found in deeper offshore fields, like at Chevron’s Jack/St. Malo project in the Gulf of Mexico. Offshore producers have fractured conventional wells for decades, but advances in the landlocked U.S....

Breitbart News spoke with Pamela Geller, president of the American Freedom Defense Initiative and blogger at, about her recent “Draw Muhammad” free speech art exhibit, which came under attack by Islamic radicals on Sunday in Garland, Texas. Geller discussed how much of the political left, Islamic totalitarians, and even some high-profile conservatives have attempted to equate her art exhibit with the actions of the AK47-weilding Islamic terrorists, who were shot dead in their botched attempt to commit mass murder. Geller talked about why drawing Muhammad is so controversial within Islam and how the media is capitulating to Sharia law...
