Through an acquaintance, I learned about a Vietnamese television show, "The Separation Never Seems to Have Existed," which reunites people who have lost touch. When the producer heard of my quest, she asked me, via e-mail, to write a letter stating my intentions and the circumstances surrounding the dogfight. Within two weeks she had found the MiG pilot, and invited me to Vietnam to appear on television with him. On April 5, 2008, on live television, my heart pounded as Nguyen Hong My—the man I had last seen in a black flightsuit, swinging under a red and white canopy—walked onto...

LITTLETON, N.H. — Former GOP presidential candidate Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) was in his element Saturday — giving hugs, posing for pictures and shaking hands beside an oversized picnic pavilion at the Veterans of Foreign Wars post here in Littleton. He was asking Granite Staters for their votes in the first-in-the-nation primary. But this time, not for himself. “Lindsey Graham, he’s my man!” McCain declared with a chuckle,...

President Obama signed a three-month highway bill Friday while chastising Congress for failing to approve long-term transportation funding and other legislative business before lawmakers’ summer vacation. “We can’t keep on funding transportation by the seat of our pants,” Mr. Obama told reporters in the Oval Office. “It’s a bad way for the U.S. government to do business. I guarantee you that’s not how China, Germany and other countries around the world handle their infrastructure.”

The walls can pee back.City officials are tired of asking police to write tickets after the crime has been committed. Following the Supreme Court decision in June that nationally legalized same-sex marriages, fears have dramatically risen that Christian colleges and institutions could be stripped of their tax-exempt statuses if they don't compromise their biblical beliefs on the subject of same-sex marriage. Extraordinary events have taken place inside a Kabul courtroom this week. Back in May, a 10-year-old girl was raped inside a mosque in a remote Afghan village. The mullah responsible – Mohammad Amin – had asked three young girls to clean for him when he started behaving inappropriately. The girls made a run for it, only one of them tripped and fell in a stream. Amin dragged her back inside the mosque, where she was raped and left with serious injuries. According to Sharia Law, which the Mullah tried to rely on in court, rape is considered a form of...

“Sanctuary cities” have been in the headlines for weeks. Late last week, the House of Representatives voted to strip federal funds from sanctuary cities, which refuse to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement efforts. And in early July, an illegal immigrant who had been deported five times and convicted of seven felonies shot and killed a young woman while she was walking with her father and a friend along a pier in San Francisco, a city famous for its sanctuary policies. It took Ted Cruz three months to raise $10 million for his campaign for president, a springtime sprint of $1,000-per-plate dinners, hundreds of handshakes and a stream of emails asking supporters to chip in a few bucks. One check, from one donor, topped those results. New York hedge fund magnate Robert Mercer's $11 million gift to a group backing the Texas Republican's White House bid put him atop a tiny group of millionaires and billionaires whose contributions already dwarf those made by the tens of thousands of people who have given to their favorite presidential candidate. In the days of the early church – I’m thinking specifically of the 2nd century – Christian apologists had to defend the faith against false charges, accusations, and misrepresentations. One such apologist, Athenagoras (d. 200 AD?), wrote a booklet to Roman rulers called A Plea for the Christians. This apology by Athenagoras is still quite relevant today because it discusses things we still talk about today. I’ll come back to this booklet later, but for now I want to point out what this 2nd century Christian apologist said about sexual immorality and homosexuality. Athenagoras refuted the claim or accusation that...

An environmental advocacy group is suing Florida’s wildlife-protection commission, demanding a stop to a planned bear hunting season in the fall. Speak Up Wekiva filed the lawsuit Friday in Tallahassee. The lawsuit claims the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conversation Commission violated the state constitution by lifting a two-decade ban on bear hunting. Amendment 5 was passed in 1998 and requires the state to make adequate provision to protect its natural resources. A commission spokeswoman didn’t immediately return a call for comment. Florida outlawed all bear hunting in 1994. But a bear rebound, as well as an increase in the number of nuisance calls and bears killed by cars, were cited as reasons for allowing a new one-week hunt in the fall. There would be a limit of 200 bears total. The lawsuit was first reported by WMFE-FM in Orlando.

Now it Makes Sense… San Francisco Judge Trying to Block Planned Parenthood Videos Raised Hundreds of Thousands of Dollars for Barack Obama Federal Judge William H. Orrick’s attempt to silence journalists at Center for Medical Progress should send chills down the spine of every single American. Because if successful, it will establish that radical leftist judges can shut down any journalist or media outlet who exposes the evil agenda shared by the Obama Administration. And Orrick is, without question, a radical federal judge serving as a gate keeper for Obama’s agenda. Orrick was appointed by Obama and was a major...

DALLAS (Reuters) - A Texas Christian University (TCU) student has been disciplined after posting online comments seen as racially offensive about current events, including rioting in Baltimore and the rise of the Islamic State, TCU officials said on Friday. TCU said Harry Vincent, a 19-year-old sophomore, violated two Student Code of Conduct provisions concerning "infliction of bodily or emotional harm" and "disorderly conduct." He has seen his campus access restricted by receiving a one-year suspension from extra-curricular activities, on-campus living and the use of non-academic facilities such as the cafeteria and recreational center. Among the comments are a Facebook post...

Until 2000 Zimbabwe had a successful wildlife-management program, with many big-game animals flourishing. But by 2003, a staggering 80% of the animals that had lived on Zimbabwean safari camps (which employed firm quotas to regulate animal population sizes) had died. By 2007, there were only 14 private game farms in the country, compared with 620 prior to the land seizures of 2000, according to a National Geographic report. With the protection of private game reserves nearly nonexistent, once abundant wildlife began dying off, hunted by desperate farmers with no other options for sustenance. Despite the passing of harsher laws for...

A New Jersey man who allegedly picked up a bag of $150,000 in cash accidentally left behind by ATM workers bought a car with the money soon after. Using surveillance video, police tracked down a white van that was seen pulling up to the business where the bag of cash was accidentally left on Monday, The Associated Press reported. The van led police to Alton Harvey, 42, who was arrested and charged with theft of mislaid property; he is being held on $125,000 bail.

Matt Bevin may have failed miserably at challenging Sen. Mitch McConnell in 2014, but he could become KentuckyÂ’s next governor this fall. Bevin won by a razor thin margin in the May 19 primary against Agriculture Commissioner James Comer. He now faces Kentucky Democratic Attorney General Jack Conway, who was handily beaten by Rand Paul in 2010 Senate race, in the general. Nevertheless, President Obama is still widely unpopular in the Bluegrass State, which seems poised to take one more jab at him before it catches up with the rest of the country in directing their admiration or ire towards...

On Monday, I pointed out that a majority of Republican voters were to Donald Trump's right on immigration: Fully 63 percent of them wanted a plan to deport all unauthorized immigrants. On Thursday, Trump pretty much closed the gap, proposing to deport all 11 million unauthorized immigrants currently in the US and then let some select few return. From CNN (via Greg Sargent at the Washington Post): Trump said Wednesday in an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash that as president he would deport all undocumented immigrants and then allow the "good ones" to reenter the country through an "expedited process"...
  • Sen. Bob Menendez intros CECIL Act to restrict big-game hunting

Sen. Bob Menendez has introduced legislation to curb trophy hunting of endangered and threatened species after the demise of Cecil, an African lion whose death at the hands of an American hunter touched off a social media firestorm. The Conserving Ecosystems by Ceasing the Importation of Large Animal Trophies Act would extend restrictions on the import and export of animals that are being considered for inclusion under the Endangered Species Act. Currently, the restrictions apply only to animals already on the list. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service had suggested the African lion be listed as “threatened” in October, but...

Though a New York judge ruled Thursday that the law still considers chimpanzees property, not people, a prominent thinker in the pro-life movement warned that attempts to raise animals to human status will continue. Wesley J. Smith, co-director of the Discovery Institute's Center on Human Exceptionalism, said Friday, "We are gratified that a court refused to declare two chimpanzees 'persons.' That is right and proper. Chimps are animals, and the 'species barrier' separating the value of humans and animals, as some animal rights advocates put it, must never be breached." "But make no mistake," Smith said. "Attempts to...

As penetration of social media plays an increasingly important role in presidential politics, I thought it might be useful to point out where the currently announced candidates stand with regard to Twitter followers. Now some caveats here. Some politicians have been known to boost the number of their followers with bogus accounts. For instance, Shrillary Clinton is the biggest offender with over one third of her followers confirmed as bogus. On the other hand, other candidates like Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders have the highest percentage of legitimate followers. For these rankings, I have separated the candidates by political party...
