YONKERS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — A deal to give New York one of the toughest gun control laws in the nation is being negotiated by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who, sources said Tuesday, is hoping to announce the plan Wednesday during his State of the State speech in Albany. Cuomo hopes to jump-start the 2013 legislative session with a big deal that could dramatically alter gun control laws across the state.Highly placed sources told CBS 2’s Marcia Kramer that Cuomo is negotiating with Assembly and Senate leaders for a package of gun control laws that would be a dramatic response to the...

Dread. Usually not a word one associates with the New Year… well, provided one is not a glass half-empty sort. Hopeful, encouraged, positive… that sort of rot is what travels the aural circuit in the week or so following clean-slate day. But ‘round these parts – and near the nether regions of other state capitals – the newly-birthed year is greeted with a level of enthusiasm rivaled only by the anticipatory feeling derived from the possibility of a TSA cavity search. And that point of comparison is frighteningly accurate; given said cavity is the only place our local legislators have...

Mossad death squads are responsible for the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, a professor emeritus at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) alleged in an op-ed in an official Iranian state news outlet late last month. Dr. James H. Fetzer wrote that members of Israel’s feared security force known the Mossad had conducted the shooting to “strike fear in the hearts of Americans.” “The killing of children is a signature of terror ops conducted by agents of Israel,” he wrote. “[W]ho better to slaughter American children than Israelis, who deliberately murder Palestinian children?”

The paper obtained the data—which New York state law explicitly and unambiguously demands be made public—through open records requests. The reaction was swift and furious—gun rights and privacy advocates published the names and addresses of the paper's editors in retaliation, and the paper (ironically) hired armed guards to protect against threats.

The shirt features a box trap with a stick and two tacos meant to lure undocumented immigrants. Overall, Americans are mixed on the deal, with 45% disapproving and 43% approving. Among Republican voters, though, the verdict is overwhelmingly negative. 65% of Republican voters disapprove of the plan, against just 27% who support it. To create jobs, jump-start the U.S. economy and drive more money into the nation’s treasury, President Obama should forgo tax increases in his second term and instead embrace much more domestic energy production, an oil and gas industry leader said Tuesday. “Energy access, not taxes, is the key to unlocking new revenues for our government,” said Jack Gerard, president of the American Petroleum Institute, in his annual “State of American Energy” address. No doubt that President Obama and his advisers would really just rather that we all forget about this whole ‘terrorist attack on a U.S. consulate in Libya on the anniversary of 9/11′ business and move on to a new year and a second term, but Sen. Lindsey Graham has not forgotten that we are still lacking even semi-complete answers on not only the security failings that lead to the deaths of four Americans, but also the manner in which the administration willfully mislead the public on the nature of the attack for some time after — and that they have been “stonewalling” about the entire affair ever since.</p>

Paper U.S. dollars sit at the heart of the global monetary system. Dollars are liabilities of the Federal Reserve. Photo by: Alan Diaz "Our educators, our kids and our families are forced to operate in a ridiculous bureaucracy," Michelle Rhee, here in 2011, said Monday after StudentsFirst released a report card on education policies. (Associated Press) One of American education’s leading provocateurs still knows how to set off a firestorm. Former D.C. public schools Chancellor Michelle A. Rhee on Monday unveiled her first “report card” grading education policies in every state. Its conclusion is that, with a handful of exceptions, they all stink. Teachers’ unions and other defenders of American public schools excoriated Ms. Rhee and her advocacy group,...

OXFORD, Miss. (FOX13) - If you are looking for a place to smoke on the Ole Miss campus, good luck with that. The new "No Smoking" policy has it covered and is being strictly enforced. Basically the policy reads you can't smoke anywhere on the Ole Miss campus. That includes the interior of all University buildings. As for the property or the grounds, you can't smoke on the sidewalks, parking lots, recreational areas, partially enclosed or open areas such as walkways, breezeways, patios, porches, gazebos, tents and bus shelters. As for University vehicles, you can't smoke in them, you can't...

Outrageous claims made by a professor who specializes in conspiracy theories are set to provoke grieving family by saying that the Sandy Hook massacre may not have happened at all. James Tracy, a tenured history professor at Florida Atlantic University, wrote a lengthy post on his personal blog saying that the shooting that left 20 children and six teachers dead may not have happened the way that it is widely believed, if it happened at all. Backed solely by the erroneous early reports filed during the midst of the horrendous incident, Mr Tracy 's claim is preying on the confusion...

If someone were to ask you for an example of a “totalitarian society”, how would you respond?  Most Americans would probably think of horribly repressive regimes such as the Soviet Union, Nazi Germany, Communist China, East Germany or North Korea, but the truth is that there is one society that has far more rules and regulations than any of those societies ever dreamed of having. In the United States today, our lives are governed by literally millions of laws, rules and regulations that govern even the smallest details of our lives, and more laws, rules and regulations are constantly being...

A Democratic legislator in Iowa is startling citizens with his most recent proposal: ban the sale of semi-automatic weapons, and confiscate them from existing gun owners if need be. Here is an excerpt from Iowa’s Daily Times Herald, which conducted the interview with State Rep. Dan Muhlbauer: In an interview, a fiery Muhlbauer said it is time to act with “radical changes” on gun laws and other issues to protect schoolchildren from shooting sprees like the one last week in Newtown, Conn. “We cannot have big guns out here as far as the big guns that are out here, the...

Last night the Brattleboro City Council voted to ban whatever it labels as an "assault weapon." Film of the meeting shows a lively exchange between outraged citizens and the toffy noses on the council. This despite there being no laws regarding firearms ownership or licensing in the State of Vermont. "Constitution of the State of Vermont: Article 16th. Right to bear arms; standing armies; military power subordinate to civil "That the people have a right to bear arms for the defence of themselves and the State - and as standing armies in time of peace are dangerous to liberty, they...

While the arrival of 2013 rang in a happy new year, it also brought in happy ratings for the Fox News Channel, which continued to dominate the cable news channel race in total viewers and the Adult 24-54 demographic for the 11th consecutive year. According to a news release from FNC, Nielsen Media Research found that the network completed the previous 12 months with the top 11 programs in total viewers. Demonstrating the network's dominance is the fact that the evening audience for Fox News topped the ratings of CNN, MSNBC and CNN combined with an average of 2,071,000, up...

Dianne Feinstein was closely involved in the Million Mom March scandal of 2000, in which this project of Handgun Control Inc. was exposed for using 501(c)(3) tax-exempt money for electioneering. As but one example, the group posted the following on its website: You stand by your guns, Mr. Delay. Come Mothers' Day, we mothers will stand together on the mall of Capitol Hill to remind your PRO-GUN House that on Election Day, the voters will stand by our children. It took the Million Mom March about three days to react to this exposure by admitting that it had lied to...

A communication professor known for conspiracy theories has stirred controversary at Florida Atlantic University with claims that last month's Newtown, Conn., school shootings did not happen as reported — or may not have happened at all. Moreover, James Tracy asserts in radio interviews and on his memoryholeblog.com. that trained "crisis actors" may have been employed by the Obama administration in an effort to shape public opinion in favor of the event's true purpose: gun control. "As documents relating to the Sandy Hook shooting continue to be assessed and interpreted by independent researchers, there is a growing awareness that the media...

Since Ed and I have each written about the latest round of Obamacare-exacerbated premium hikes, let’s check in on Britain’s single-payer system, which many American liberals fetishize: An official inquiry into failings at [Stafford] hospital, where between 400 and 1,200 patients died needlessly due to a catalogue of failings and appalling standards of care, is due to be published later this month. The report is expected to blame managers who cut costs and reduced staffing levels in an attempt to hit "efficiency" targets and win foundation status. Before taking control of the health service, Sir David ran the health authority...

BURLINGTON, Vt. - A passionate crowd - many in blaze orange - packed City Hall Monday night. Most of whom were there to voice concern and contest the proposed change to the city charter. "It's not really good to pass feel good legislations," said one gun rights advocate to the city council. The proposed amendment banning semi-automatic assault weapons and multiple ammunition clips came from Norm Blais, (D-Burlington City Council) in the wake of the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. "To those people who say we don't need this legislation in Burlington because nothing like this...
