PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – In 2013, no one expects to see a man dressed in a Ku Klux Clan robe mid-morning in Center City, Philadelphia. “I think that’s nonsense,” said one woman on the street. “He needs to be committed to the jail system,” said another onlooker. The man, who stood on the corner of 13th and Filbert on Tuesday, is not out to lynch or kill black people. In fact, he is black. Thirty-five-year-old Sixx King says he’s using the offensive symbol to highlight a serious problem: black on black crime. “We’re bringing awareness to the black hypocrisy, complacency and...

“I do worry sometimes that as soon as we leave the prayer breakfast, everything we’ve been talking about the whole time at the prayer breakfast seems to be forgotten – on the same day as the prayer breakfast. You’d like to think that the shelf life wasn’t so short. I go back to the Oval Office, and I start watching the cable news networks, and it’s like we didn’t pray,” Obama said.
  • Entire Miami Police Squad Fired After Footage Shows Cops Shopping, Dining & Kissing While Ignoring

An investigation into Miami police officers’ on-duty conduct found six officers were ignoring 911 calls while instead kissing their girlfriends, shopping, and drinking coffee. One 911 call involved an unconscious five-month-old baby. Video footage shows Miami police officer Dario Socarras ignoring dispatch orders to save the child, while drinking coffee for nine minutes and lying to the dispatcher about being “en route”. Paramedics eventually reached the unconscious child, while Socarras never went – but still, the officer wrote in his daily report that he attended the scene. And Socarras is only one of six officers caught neglecting their duties: after...

There are concerns that the horse meat used in the lasagne contained the drug bute, which is a known human health risk. Findus was today unable to say how long horsemeat has been used in its products.

Residents of a luxury high-rise building in Union City have been receiving free rides to the PATH station in Hoboken -- at taxpayers' expense -- according to a "Shame Shame Shame" report on MyFoxNY Ch. 5 report last night. The report showed footage of a Union City senior citizens van stopping and picking up passengers at Troy Towers, at 380 Mountain Rd., at the foot of 18th Street. Residents admit on camera that the service is free. Mayor Brian Stack defended the free amenity. "They're the largest taxpayer in the city," he told Diaz on camera. Not only that Stack,...

President Barack Obama has presided over the weakest multi-year economic recovery since the end of World War II, according to data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA). Since the end of the last recession in June 2009, the economy has grown only 7.5 percent—compared with the double-digit increases the economy experience in other multi-year post-World War II growth cycles. …

Dear FReepers, We need your help to get this FReepathon moving again. Now into the second month of the fundraiser and we're catching up, but still lagging more than 10% behind the pace. We actually have about the same number donations that we had at this point last quarter, but we're averaging about five dollars less per donation. This is a direct result of the harm Obama's Marxist policies are inflicting on the economy. Hopefully it'll get going strong again so we can complete our fundraiser in the next few weeks. Free Republic stands for God and Country!! We defend...

Gov. Mark Dayton says in his State of the State speech that past state income tax cuts are partly to blame for chronic budget problems in Minnesota and that political leaders cannot afford to keep delaying difficult tax and spending decisions. Dayton is delivering the annual speech Wednesday night in the state House chamber. He says in advance excerpts provided by his office that income tax cuts in the late '90s were followed by a decade where Minnesota's economy fared worse than the nation as a whole and most other states. The speech is largely a pitch for Dayton's proposal...

If approved, Brennan will replace Acting Director Michael Morell. Several Committee members are vowing to ask Brennan “tough questions,” including questions on the use of American drones overseas and the Obama administration’s drone strike program. He is also expected to field inquiries about the agency's budget. Brennan, currently Obama’s counterterrorism adviser, is a 25-year veteran of the CIA and served both at the agency's headquarters and overseas, including a tour as station...

Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta revealed on Thursday that he personally broke the news to President Obama that an attack was unfolding on the U.S. diplomatic post in Benghazi, Libya, on Sept. 11, 2012. Mr. Panetta said he was given an alert about the attack just before arriving at the White House for an unrelated and prescheduled meeting with the president. “It’s something I introduced to the president,” the defense secretary said, acknowledging for the first time that he and Mr. Obama were well aware that the attack was occurring while they met at the White House that day. Almost half of Britain’s military equipment sent to Afghanistan will never return – and could end up in the hands of the Taliban. About 40% of gear being used in Helmand Province will be scrapped or sold when UK forces finally leave by the end of next year. The Government estimates about 11,000 containers of equipment are in Afghanistan, including 3,000 vehicles. Of these, defence chiefs plan to bring back about 6,500 loads – costing tens of millions of pounds. That means leaving 4,500 containers. These will not include weapons – but besides everyday items will be non-lethal military hardware...

A short circuit inside one cell started the 787 battery fire, and assumptions used to certify the battery system proved wrong, the NTSB said Thursday. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has pinpointed the start of the 787 Dreamliner battery fire on a parked Japan Airlines jet a month ago today as a short circuit inside a single cell. The agency still hasn’t identified the cause of the initial short circuit but has narrowed down the suspects. Details provided by the NTSB make clear that Boeing will have to redesign the battery for a long-term fix. In addition, the NTSB pointed...

The Saturday afternoon call from Routh's sister, Laura Blevins, came from her home in Midlothian, some 30 miles southeast of Fort Worth, after Routh, she said, had come to visit her and her husband. "He's left now, but he told me that he's committed a murder, and I'm terrified for my life because I don't know if he's going to come back here," Blevins says in the call, her words spilling out in a torrent of worry. "I don't know if he's being honest with me." Asked for detail, she says, "He says that he killed two guys. They went...

A group of conservative leaders has signed an irate letter demanding that a Republican political consultant be fired for calling the relatively undistinguished scion of a prominent political family a “hater.” Jonathan Collegio, a spokesman for the Karl Rove-affiliated political action committee American Crossroads, used the epithet when discussing L. Brent Bozell, the nephew of former Sen. James Buckley and deceased National Review founder William F. Buckley, during an appearance on a local radio show Wednesday. The letter, which is being circulated by the Washington, D.C. based public relations shop Shirley & Banister, calls Bozell “a beloved and critically important...
