Ken Burns on McCain: Make Nice and Allow Obama to Defeat You

Fresh on the heels of slamming Sarah Palin, film documentarian Ken Burns is now upset at John McCain. Why? Because McCain is being too aggressive in waging his campaign and not politely allowing Obama to ride over him to victory in November. Burns begins his New Hampshire Union Leader Op-Ed piece moaning that this is not the John McCain he used to know, the one who would happily allow Obama to defeat him: WHAT HAPPENED to John McCain? What happened to the man so many of us in New Hampshire have admired and respected for so long? The fierce bipartisan...

Analysis of Maine's 1 electoral vote (Vanity)

Not a big vanity guy, but I find this fascinating. Yesterday we were told that McCain's campaign planned to redirect some of it's Michigan resources to various other states where they feel they have a better chance. One of those is the state of Maine. As most of us know, Maine is one of two states that splits electoral votes, Nebraska being the other. McCain has a decent chance at picking up 1 electoral vote from the nothern Republican leaning part of the state. Olympia Snowe is on the ballot for reelection and running quite strong. On it's face, it...

NH House members stay on the fence [on Bailout]

WASHINGTON – New Hampshire's two Democratic House members -- who voted against the $700 billion financial bailout package on Monday -- won't say how they will vote today when the House takes up the revised legislation. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter said yesterday she is glad the Senate added renewable energy incentives and a provision to adjust the alternative minimum tax so 20 million Americans can avoid paying it, but said she still has concerns about the bill and how it would affect middle-class Americans. [snip] On Wednesday, she told New Hampshire Union Leader's Granite Status she was "desperately trying to get...

(vanity)Sen.Judd Gregg (R-New Hampshire) just said...

Did I hear correctly? Sen.Gregg(R)was just giving kudos to all the lovely Democrats who helped re-shape the bailout scheme and I'm sure I heard him pat himself on the back for representing the Senate Democrats. He quickly changed that to Senate Republicans, along with a nervous laugh, trying to make a joke of it. Did anyone else catch that slip up? Was he just overly exhausted from the negotiations or were his true leanings showing through? I don't know the man, maybe some of you do?

Sununu Moves Ahead in New Hampshire

Incumbent Republican Senator John Sununu can breathe a little easier in New Hampshire if the numbers keep trending his way in his rematch race against former Governor Jeanne Shaheen. Sununu, viewed until recently as perhaps the GOP’s most endangered senator, now leads Shaheen 52% to 45%, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of voters in the state. A month ago Sununu was down by 10, but in July the volatile Senate race was a five-point affair. In June Shaheen had her largest lead ever.

A group of 10 states, including Maryland and Delaware, are taking steps to monitor global warming. The coalition is called the "Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative." They'll conduct the nation's first carbon auction. The auction would put limits on carbon dioxide emissions from utility plants and make them pay for each ton of pollutants. The auction is set for September 25.

Sarah Palin for daring to have a family, to work and to appear on Sen. John McCain's ticket. The focus should be on her record and her abilities. Sens. Barack Obama and Joe Biden have at least espoused that Gov. Palin's family is off limits. Why then do their supporters and the liberal news media feel a need to bash Gov. On the Senate side, Emily's List touts pro-abortion New Hampshire candidate Jeanne Shaheen who is challenging pro-life Sen.
Obama in the mud: So much for honesty

When Barack Obama first began campaigning in New Hampshire in early 2007, many voters swooned. We watched him speak to retirees in Claremont one snowy February day that year. Not a single voter we talked with before he spoke planned to vote for him. Afterwards, many said they would. The word that spontaneously came from the lips of multiple attendees: sincere. They couldn't remember a politician who spoke with such sincerity, they said. And many of them had been voting since World War II. We wonder what those same voters think of Obama's sincerity now. In the past few weeks,...

The first New Hampshire poll since the two national political conventions shows Barack Obama leading John McCain outside of the margin of error. The CNN/Time Magazine poll gave Obama a 51 percent to 45 percent lead. The poll had a margin of error of +/- 3 percent. This poll may be evidence that the Granite State is bucking the national trend this week of higher numbers for McCain since Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's speech a week ago. Since Obama clinched the Democratic nomination in June both presidential candidates have been locked in a tie within the margin of error. After...

Then, all of a sudden, we’ve got this big fight on our hands.” Her anxiety was widely shared among the 8,000 people that turned up to see Barack Obama in Manchester over the weekend, amid mounting Democratic jitters about declining poll numbers and escalating Republican attacks.
