Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has been complaining a lot about money lately. Specifically, about how she doesn´t have enough to implement ObamaCare. [snip] The implication is that this is mainly the GOP´s fault — they are starving ObamaCare for money when it needs it most. The press has started to pick up on this talking point. Ezra Klein, who writes extensively on health care for the Washington Post, said Republicans are purposefully trying to derail ObamaCare´s launch.

On one hand, Progress Kentucky has succeeded in ways most political-action committees rarely do. In only four or five months of existence, they have driven the national news cycle not once but twice. Unfortunately for Progress KY and Democrats in the state, they’ve been the scandal both times. Their operatives turned out to be behind the racist tweets attacking Mitch McConnell’s wife Elaine Chao, and now they’ve allegedly managed to out-bumble the Watergate burglars in secretly recording a McConnell campaign meeting, in which they were most definitely not participants.BuzzFeed calls Progress KY the “least effective liberal group” in the state,...

On Easter Sunday, Google is honoring the birthday of the late labor organizer Cesar Chavez by placing a Chavez portrait within the middle “o” of the Google logo that appears on the homepage of the popular search engine. While Google frequently decorates its logo to celebrate various holidays and special events, it is unclear why the company chose specifically to honor Chavez’s birthday, instead of Easter Sunday. Chavez co-founded the organization now known as the United Farm Workers union (UFW). He became an iconic figure in the labor movement, with his stature only increasing since his death in 1993. President...

Even if humans stop producing excess carbon dioxide in 2100, the lingering effects of global warming could span the next millennia. The results? By the year 3000, global warming would be more than a hot topic - the West Antarctic ice sheet could collapse, and global sea levels would rise by about 13 feet (4 meters), according to a new study. Using a computer model, researchers looked at two scenarios - an end to humans' industrial carbon dioxide emissions by 2010 and by 2100 - stretched out to the year 3000.

Lawrence Wilkerson has a must-read on what he now believes is the real reason Cheney was so insistent on torturing prisoners - he needed proof of an al Qaeda-Saddam connection to justify the war he had already decided to wage. This really is the explosive charge, because it reveals the real danger of torture in the hands of big government: it means our leaders can manufacture facts to justify anything. The latest in a stream of eye-opening Iraqi documents shows Saddam Hussein's regime was planning suicide attacks on U.S. interests six months before 9-11. Why won't Washington get the word out?Last month the Pentagon began releasing records captured during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Among the documents is a letter dated March 11, 2001, written by Abdel Magid Hammod Ali, one of Saddam's air force generals.According to an unofficial translation, Page 6 of the letter asks for "the names of those who desire to volunteer for suicide mission to liberate Palestine and to strike American interests." Assuming the document's accuracy, this shows...

Values group hails unanimous decision Tuesday CINCINNATI -- In an astounding return to judicial interpretation of the actual text of the United States Constitution, a unanimous panel of the 6th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals Tuesday issued an historic decision declaring that "the First Amendment does not demand a wall of separation between church and state." In upholding a Kentucky county's right to display the Ten Commandments, the panel called the American Civil Liberties Union's repeated claims to the contrary "extra-constitutional" and "tiresome." Once a week Paul and his sister come to my house to clean it. They're recent arrivals to America from Russia and work at cleaning houses in order to support themselves and take courses at night at Irvine's community college. They're part of a larger group of Russians that live, not in the astronomically expensive beach towns along Southern California's solid gold coast, but inland where life is considerably cheaper. Every Tuesday Paul and his sister arrive in a beat-up old Toyota, haul their vacuums and supplies in and set to work. They're in and out in an hour and...

We're Not Spain! ©2004 Patrick Rooney Any state that does not mess with our security has naturally guaranteed its own security.--The Coward Well, Senator Kerry finally got the ultimate endorsement —from the Coward. The endorsement came in the form of the Coward’s eighteen minute poison-tongued tribute to the Bush family. Make no mistake about it—the Coward does intend to sway our elections, and we know in which direction. But I believe the Coward has made a small error in judgment: You see, we’re not Spain! We all know that Spain cowered to the Coward. They backed off, and put a...
