A dad from North Carolina bought his son a billboard to recognize him as class valedictorian since the school refused to do so. East Wake High in Wendell, North Carolina recently got rid of naming valedictorians and salutatorians. Instead, they give all high-achieving students Latin honors for a “better way to recognize students who may have barely missed being named valedictorian or salutatorian by several decimal places," according to the News & Observer.

Evangelist Franklin Graham says the practice separating children from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border is "disgraceful.” But the North Carolina-based preacher isn’t blaming the Trump administration and its zero-tolerance policy toward people who enter the United States illegally. "I think it's disgraceful, it's terrible, to see families ripped apart, and I don't support that one bit,” Graham, president and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, said Wednesday in an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network. "I blame the politicians for the last 20, 30 years that have allowed this to escalate to the point where it is today....

In 2018, black voters are finding out just what the hell they had to lose. Nazis and Klansmen march openly and proudly, and hate crimes appear to be on the rise. Police killings of people—especially black people—remain largely the same year to year, and this iteration of the Justice Department has largely abdicated any federal responsibility in reducing brutality. An infant-mortality crisis is tightening its grip on the most marginalized communities, and across many economic metrics—from evictions, to generational wealth, to segregation—disparities are either stagnating or trending in the wrong direction. Fifty years after the Kerner Commission’s report said the...

North Carolina teachers marched to the state capitol last month, demanding, among other things, teacher pay raises and increased education spending. But was it really about NC teachers or was it just a nationally coordinated effort by the Left to target red states?

A measure proposed by state House Democrats last week would severely limit the models of pistols allowed to circulate in the Tar Heel State. The bill, HB 1060, was filed last Thursday by Orange County Democrat Verla Insko and would require the North Carolina Department of Public Safety to first develop a safe handgun roster, then ban sale or possession of any pistol not included on the list. Insko and the bill’s seven co-sponsors argue there is a lack of federal design and safety standards on pistols and that California’s controversial roster of Handguns Certified for Sale should be a...

Google labeled Republican North Carolina state Sen. Trudy Wade as a “bigot” in its “knowledge panel” for the pro-Trump lawmaker. According to Vice News Friday, searching for Wade on Google would show users an image of the state senator with “BIGOT” in bright red letters displayed at the bottom. Wade is currently in a tough reelection battle. It’s likely not helpful for her campaign to have the image as one of the first things voters would see if they Google her. Google did not respond to Vice’s request for comment on the matter, but the tech giant did take down...
