The yeshiva student who pried Barack Obama's prayer note from the Western Wall has apologized. US Democratic presidential contender Sen. Barack Obama places a note in the Western Wall on Thursday. Photo: AP Slideshow: Obama in Israel Identified only by the first initial of his name, Aleph, and with his face obscured, the student went on Channel 2 television Sunday to confess that he took the presidential contender's note last week and passed it to the press. . . . "I'm sorry. It was a kind of prank," Aleph said, his hands shaking as he fingered the tightly wadded-up sheet...

....In the private note, handwritten on the headed letter paper of the hotel where he was staying, the presidential hopeful asks God to: "Give me the wisdom to do what is right and just" and "protect my family". Predictably, the publication has ignited an unholy row. The wailing or western wall, as it is also known, is the holiest place Jews can visit, because it is the remains of the foundations of the Second Jewish Temple, destroyed by Romans two thousand years ago.

This is the most graceless stunt I’ve seen a while. Leon Fleisher, the conductor and pianist, received a Kennedy Center honor. As part of the weekend of festivities associated with this prestigious award, Fleisher was invited to attend a White House reception along with the four other honorees (Brian Wilson, Steve Martin, Diana Ross, and Martin Scorcese). This caused the conductor to wrestle with his conscience. In the past seven years, Bush administration policies have amounted to a systematic shredding of our nation's Constitution — the illegal war it initiated and perpetuates; the torturing of prisoners; the espousing of "values"...

The $100,000 note that won't buy a loaf of bread in Zimbabwe By Peta Thornycroft in Harare (Filed: 07/06/2006) The 100,000 Zimbabwean dollar note which went into circulation this week was officially worth just over 50p. Yesterday on Zimbabwe's burgeoning black markets it was valued at about 16p. In a country stricken by 1,000 per cent inflation, the world's worst, the new note will not even buy a loaf of bread. Just four months ago, a loaf of bread cost $45,000 Hours after the national mint started printing the notes, the price of bread shot up by more 40 per...

SAN DIEGO - Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger sounded more conciliatory Thursday toward President Bush's plan to send 6,000 National Guard troops to the Mexican border, but the governor's advisers said he still has not decided whether to participate. "If that will help to prevent people from coming across the border for right now, then we are more than happy to join in and to help temporarily," Schwarzenegger said. "But it definitely should not be a permanent solution." Schwarzenegger is concerned that California Guardsmen will be caught up in an open-ended mission on the border that could drag beyond the two years...

WASHINGTON, April 8, 2006 – U.S. soldiers who served in Iraq three years ago when it was liberated from Saddam Hussein's regime and are back again during its reconstruction said today the country had made and continues to make great progress. But speaking today with military analysts during a conference call from Iraq, they urged U.S. media outlets and politicians to have patience with the mission, noting that Iraq's reconstruction will be a long, arduous, multiyear task. "One of the biggest differences in Baghdad, and throughout Iraq... is that the Iraqi military is doing really well, and they're taking over...

WASHINGTON, April 7, 2006 – Three years ago April 9, the world looked on, captivated by compelling television images of Iraqis ripping down a towering statue of Saddam Hussein in Baghdad, and burning images of the Iraqi dictator on the streets. The statue of Saddam Hussein topples in Baghdad's Firdos Square on April 9, 2003. Three years later, Iraqi forces increasingly are taking the lead in securing their country. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld lauded it as an important sign of things to come. "We're seeing history unfold and events that will shape the course of a country, the fate...

Though copy editors and popular writers have known it for long, an experiment by a psychologist establishes the key to impressive writing - keep it plain and simple. Writers who use long words needlessly and choose complicated font styles in print are seen as less intelligent than those who employ basic vocabulary and plain text, according to new research from the Princeton University in New Jersey to be published in the next edition of Applied Cognitive Psychology. In the study titled 'Consequences of Erudite Vernacular Utilized Irrespective of Necessity: Problems with Using Long Words Needlessly', Daniel Oppenheimer based his findings...

Posting the same message on all the boards defeats the purpose of multiple-boards for special topics. It is very annoying to see the same message on every bulletin board. PLEASE! Here is what ABC News/Note wrote today: In a Note section on Friday about the blogosphere's role in the Bush/National Guard document story, we wrote that Buckhead, a poster on Free Republic.com, posted a critique of the "60 Minutes II" story at 8:59 pm ET . . . which lead us to suggest that he posted it before the broadcast was over. Mr. Buckhead, an Atlanta lawyer, has since informed the world that he saw the show at 8:00 pm ET and posted his response at 11:59 pm ET. The time stamp incorrectly suggested he had 50 minutes, rather than...

"Dean Clarence Manion, the Dean of the College of Law at Notre Dame University for more than a quarter of a century, in his book The Key to Peace defined this "government" as follows: Constitutions and Bills of Right are but vain and futile barricades against tyranny unless, as our Declaration of Independence says-they are firmly founded in and upon the "Laws of Nature and of Nature's God." Dean Manion, in his book also made the following observation: In both "form" and "substance" our American system is basically different from any politically organized society now or heretofore existing in the...

Here are the big dirty little secrets about the election, all guaranteed to be true and (almost) all guaranteed to make every one of our sources angry. . . . 3. A lot of Democrats — including some of the smartest ones we know — look at the latest polling data and claim to think that the election is all but over.

Editor's Note: Local radio's lone liberal voice Thursday, May 20, 2004 Copyright © Las Vegas Mercury The myth of the "liberal media" endures, despite the fact that it's an absurd notion. It survives, in part, because the right-wing media have found it to be an effective mantra to boost circulation and ratings. Conservatives clearly have the upper hand on television, where it's increasingly difficult to find a liberal voice (Lisa Simpson being a dependable exception). The cable news talk shows pretend to present both sides of issues when in reality a centrist is usually trotted out to represent a counterpoint...

Security has been heightened at Dickinson High School, but officials still expected more absences than usual today and tomorrow, in the wake of alleged threats made against some students. A handwritten note was found earlier this week stating that "preppies" at the school would be shot on Friday the 13th, tomorrow. Dickinson police are investigating the threat, and say one set of suspects is a group of about 30 students who call themselves "stoners." Police said while "preppies" wear trendy, popular clothing and hair styles, stoners prefer gothic-style clothing and hair styles. Two students have so far been suspended during...

UPDATED: Demo senators strike note of defiance in maintaining holdout By W. Gardner Selby Express-News Staff Writer Web Posted : 08/04/2003 3:15 PM ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Eleven Democratic senators entered their second week away from Texas in a local hotel today by singing a song crediting them with outsmarting U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay, R-Sugar Land. DeLay, the House majority leader, has been blamed by Democrats for pressuring Gov. Rick Perry to call repeated special sessions for the purpose of imposing more Republican-leaning congressional districts. Several senators sang along with visiting guitarist Steve Brooks, who wore a “Killer D’s” T-shirt referring...

ROCKVILLE, Md., Oct. 23 — As Washington area parents weighed whether to send their kids to school Wednesday, sniper investigators assessed a note left at Tuesday’s shooting scene that reportedly repeats an earlier demand for a $10 million payment. Sources told NBC News that the demand included a deadline and that Tuesday’s fatal shooting came after it had passed without payment. Parents were particularly on edge after a note found Saturday stated: “Your children are not safe anywhere at any time.” Full Story: http://www.msnbc.com/news/816566.asp

Text of note left in mailboxes in the Midwest where pipe bombs were found Friday: Mailboxes are exploding! Why, you ask? Attention people. You do things because you can and want (desire) to If the government controls what you want to do, they control what you can do. If you are under the impression that death exists, and you fear it, you do anything to avoid it. (This is the same way pain operates. Naturally we strive to avoid negative emotion/pain.) You allow yourself to fear death! World authorities allowed, and still allow you to fear death! In avoiding death...
