Condoleezza Rice, who served George W. Bush as national security adviser and then secretary of state, has zero interest in being Donald Trumps running mate, her chief of staff said Friday. Dr. Rice has repeatedly said in past cycles as well as this one, shes not interested in being vice president, Georgia Godfrey told Yahoo News in a statement. Shes happy at Stanford and plans to stay. Rice will also stay away from Cleveland, where Republicans are expected to anoint the volatile entrepreneur as their candidate. She does not plan to go to the convention, Godfrey said. Here is a sentence I never thought Id type: After days of prayer, reflection, and serious study of the possibilities, I am not going to run as an independent candidate for president of the United States. I gave it serious thought as a pretty darn obscure lawyer, writer, and veteran only because we live in historic times. Never before have both parties failed so spectacularly, producing two dishonest, deceitful candidates who should be disqualified from running for town council, much less leader of the free world.

A group of prominent conservative activists, including the writer and radio host Erick Erickson, arent satisfied with Bill Kristols suggestion of David French as a third party candidate and are still looking for another alternative to Donald Trump. The activists are working separately from Kristol, the editor of The Weekly Standard who favors French, according to two sources familiar with the discussions. Were not going to be jumping on board with what Kristol is doing, said a person involved in the discussions. We learned about this from the media along with everyone else. UnitedHealth is exiting California's Obamacare exchange as part of its exodus from the law's individual marketplaces. The state's Obamacare exchange, Covered California, told Kaiser Health News on Tuesday that the largest U.S. insurer is leaving the entire individual market in the state. Obamacare comprises a majority of the individual market, which is for people who don't get insurance through their job. UnitedHealth has been in the exchange for only about a year and has about 1,200 enrollees. Covered California had more than 425,000 people enroll overall in the latest open enrollment period. Earlier this year, UnitedHealth announced it was leaving...

News of the presidents forthcoming directive requiring educators to let students use bathrooms according to their gender identity not their birth certificate offered a welcome set of guidelines to some school administrators Thursday night about how they ought to proceed amidst the ongoing legal and cultural bathroom battle embroiling the nation. As Obamas time in the White House ticks away, the president wants his administration to leave a legacy of social reform, especially when it comes to issues like same-sex marriage, immigration, healthcare, clean air and climate change. Fidel Castro responded Monday to President Barack Obamas historic trip to Cuba with a long, bristling letter recounting the history of U.S. aggression against Cuba, writing that we dont need the empire to give us any presents. The 1,500-word letter in state media titled Brother Obama was Castros first response to the presidents three-day visit last week, in which the American president said he had come to bury the two countries history of Cold War hostility. Political battles are not that much different from traditional wars and battles. Most of the attention is always focused on what’s visible, what you can see, the consequences. However, it’s far away from the geography where the real stakes are determined. Three levels: #1) The actual fighting, the battle space. #2) The assembly of Generals at HQ. #3) The cloistered closed-door meetings where the politicians decide. The media keeps everyone focused on #1, it’s easier – there are “sides” etc. But the GOPe roadmap, and the eye-opening “Splitter Strategy”, was found by focusing intense sunlight upon #3.Now… …When the stakes are...

onald Trump’s star turn as an unexpected ally of Code Pink was widely panned last Saturday evening. Standing next to Jeb Bush at the Republican party’s fractious South Carolina debate, Trump seemed determined to indulge the most idiosyncratic of the anti-war movement’s critiques. The invasion of Iraq, he proposed, was based upon a “lie.” Its advocates, he submitted, were engaged not in a mistake, but in a conspiracy. And, worst of all, George W. Bush was to blame for 9/11. It turns out that so-called "prisoner swap" with Iran didn’t involve much of a swap. When given the chance, none of the Iranians freed from U.S. custody chose to return to Iran, according to U.S. officials familiar with the negotiations. As the United States and Iran secretly negotiated the terms of a deal that culminated with a "prisoner swap" this weekend, both parties agreed they would fly their prisoners to Geneva, Switzerland, for the exchange – a neutral country that for years has worked as a diplomatic mediator between the two adversaries. We’re often asked why not just unmask candidate Ted Cruz and lay bare with all of the gathered research on his manipulative intents. The simplest answer can be found in the following analogy some might be familiar with: …”have you ever tried to convince a 17-year-old teenager their boyfriend is wrong for them”?… There are some things you make a decision not to do, choosing instead to watch people awaken on their own, at their own pace. Members of India's transgender community, known as Hijras, are now the stars of an entertaining advocacy campaign aimed at convincing India to buckle their seat belts. The Seatbelt Crew, as the Mumbai-based Hijras are known, has taken to the streets of the country's financial capital to cajole motorists to strap themselves in. Indian roads are treacherous and according to the World Health Organization only 27 percent of drivers wear a seat belt even though it's mandatory. A familiar sight on Indian streets, Hijras were recently recognized by India's courts as part of a third gender. They can be found wending...

WASHINGTON The United States Navy has denied an application from an outspoken atheist who sought to become a chaplain to the Godless in the military. As previously reported, 38-year-old Jason Heap submitted his application last July, noting that he had earned masters degrees from both Oxford University and Brite Divinity School, with substantial experience in human resources. He also successfully completed the necessary paperwork and all the required physical tests. Heap told reporters at that time that a position as chaplain would be a chance for him to give back to my country."

The next Olympics to be awarded, a little more than a year from now, will be the 2022 Winter Games. Rather than going to the strongest bid, the games may end up going to the last city standinga long list of potential hosts have given up on their Olympic dreams because the whole thing is one huge, useless waste of money. Yesterday, Krakow, Poland, officially withdrew its bid for the games, a day after a citywide referendum where 70 percent of voters came out against hosting the Olympics. "Krakow is closing its efforts to be the host of the 2022...

Google is building a car without a steering wheel. Sergey Brin, co-founder of the technology titan, told a Southern California tech conference that Google will make 100 prototype cars that drive themselvesand therefore do not need a wheel. Or brake and accelerator pedals. Instead, there are buttons for go and stop. A combination of sensors and computing power takes the driving from there.

Enough already. If theres nothing innately unhealthy about any individual childs following a parent into politics, we still should look askance when the practice becomes habitual, and when the habit grows so common. The always-commonsensical Barbara Bush, when famously recommending against a Jeb Bush candidacy a few months ago by saying weve had enough Bushes, was making a broader point. I think its a great country, she said. There are a lot of great families. Its not just four families or whatever. There are other people out there that are very qualified. In a nation of more than 300 million...

With Chris Christie in deep trouble, Republican poobahs are reportedly looking to Jeb Bush to save their party in 2016. The former two-term governor of Florida speaks fluent Spanish, is a convert to Catholicism, and has high name recognition. Jeb could raise millions of dollars over night by just saying yes to running. Despite all this, there are strong reasons Republicans should say no to him. 1. His last name is poison. Lets face it, if Jeb Bush had the last name of Something Else he would have already run for president in 2008 or 2012. According to a recent...
