The North Las Vegas City Council voted 3-2 to approve a new contract with the North Las Vegas firefighters union tonight, in hopes of saving up to $640,000. The new memorandum of understanding, ratified last week by members of the International Association of Firefighters Local #1607, renews the current contracts in place for both supervisory and nonsupervisory personnel. Under the updated contract, good through the end of the fiscal year in June, the chief will have more discretion in the use of brownouts, the staffing of the air resource unit and restricting the number of battalion chiefs on annual leave...

A man reportedly suffered a heart attack while eating the “Triple Bypass Burger” on Saturday at a Las Vegas restaurant that serves “Bypass” burgers, “Flatliner” fries and free meals to people who weigh over 350 pounds. An amateur video posted on Youtube shows the unidentified man being wheeled out of the downtown Heart Attack Grill restaurant on a stretcher after he collapsed in the restaurant that employees told KVVU-TV FOX5 looked like a heart attack. Restaurant owner “Doctor” Jon Basso told the news station that he initially thought it was a joke when a waitress who told him a customer...

While billionaire casino mogul Sheldon Adelson may have rescued Newt Gingrich’s campaign in its early days, today, he may have just buried it. Bloomberg News reports that Adelson, who has donated $11 million to Gingrich’s Super PAC, does not plan to send any more money Gingrich’s way. Bloomberg is citing an anonymous source “familiar with their deliberations,” though an Adelson spokesman declined to comment. The move seems to be weeks in the making. After poor showings by Gingrich in the last several races and the re-resurgence of Rick Santorum, the former House speaker has once again been pushed to the...

The settlement amount was blessed by the city attorney then approved by the Henderson City Council tonight.

Reid’s floor maneuvers leave some Senate Democrats frustratedBy Alexander Bolton - 02/07/12 05:15 AM ET Some Democrats are grumbling over how Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has run the floor this year. The frustration is felt mostly among junior lawmakers, who want more of a role in decision-making and have yet to resign themselves to the traditional pace of the Senate, where seniority rules and lawmakers often have to wait years to have significant influence. They say Reid’s style leaves them feeling out of the loop. Colleagues have second-guessed Reid’s decision to greenlight a deal with Republicans on the...

Appearing on Fox and Friends Monday, Donald Trump wasted no time in giving himself credit for Mitt Romney‘s landslide victory in the Nevada caucus. “There was a lot riding on that particular race in Nevada and it was interesting, because the numbers were much, much greater than you thought,” Trump gloated. “And a lot of people are giving me credit for that. And I will accept that credit.” RELATED: Poll Finds Trump Endorsement Was Net Negative For Mitt RomneyEarlier in the interview, co-anchor Steve Doocy asked why Trump took so long to endorse a candidate.“I like Newt a lot, but...

The voting ended half a day ago. The networks have called the race. The GOP presidential candidates have delivered their speeches and left the state. And, still, party officials in Nevada’s largest county continue to count the vote. “We are going to get this right,” Clark County Chairman David Gibbs told the Las Vegas Sun today. “If it takes us a little bit of time to get it rights, we are going to take the time.” Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney was declared the victor of the Nevada caucuses Saturday evening, based on results from the rest of the state...

Mitt Romney Wins Overwhelming Victory In Nevada Caucuses Dan Balz February 4 LAS VEGAS — Mitt Romney won an overwhelming victory in Saturday’s Nevada caucuses, giving the former Massachusetts governor his second consecutive victory of the year as he tightened his claim to dominant front-runner status in what had been a turbulent Republican presidential race. After his easy victory in Florida last Tuesday, Romney’s big win in Nevada, where he also won four years ago, will provide additional momentum heading to Tuesday’s caucuses in Colorado and Minnesota and set him up for more significant primaries in Michigan and Arizona at...

Newt Gingrich will stay in the Republican presidential nomination contest despite an expected loss to Mitt Romney in Saturday’s Nevada caucuses, the former speaker told The Washington Times late Saturday afternoon. “We had excellent fundraising meetings and calls yesterday,” Mr. Gingrich said. “Super Tuesday and beyond look good.” The Georgia native thus dispelled rumors circulating in the press that his campaign had scheduled a press conference for late Saturday, after the results were in from the Nevada caucuses. “We will probably be a solid second here with [Rick] Santorum in last place,” Mr. Gingrich said, while acknowledging indirectly that attracting...

Las Vegas -- Newt Gingrich delivered a fiery closing argument here on the eve of Nevada's Republican caucuses, predicting he would win the GOP nomination and taking several swings at Mitt Romney. The former Georgia congressman vowed to fight for the nomination all the way to Tampa, called Romney "Obama-lite," and challenged him to another debate. "It isn't good enough for the Republican Party to nominate Obama-lite," Gingrich told hundreds of cheering supporters at Stoney's Rockin' Country, a country music nightclub in Las Vegas..... The lighter public schedule could reflect Gingrich’s efforts to raise more money behind the scenes to...

As the political circus that is the GOP primary heads to Las Vegas, Donald Trump has also arrived in Sin City, with some reporting he's going to endorse Newt Gingrich and others saying he's betting on Mitt Romney. Clearly, Trump's hedging his bets, but there's one sure thing riding on this latest media flurry: His show, The Apprentice, returns to NBC later this month. The showy real estate and casino magnate (and onetime not-quite candidate) is expected to make his endorsement official today, whether anyone wants it or not. Trump's people (we think) are already being pretty chatty about the...
