WFAN radio talk show host Craig Carton has been arrested on conspiracy and securities fraud charges. The 48-year-old “Boomer & Carton” co-host was taken into custody by the FBI at his Manhattan apartment Wednesday morning. He is apparently charged in a fraudulent ticket-selling scam that netted over $2 million, 1010 WINS’ Al Jones reported.

Mayor de Blasio claims he’s running the city so well that “you’d assume they’d be having parades out in the streets” — and insisted he’d be more popular if it weren’t for “the time in history.” “When I think about how crime’s gone down for four years, graduation rates up, test scores are up, more jobs than ever in our history — I think, ‘Wow, just that quick profile, any candidate anywhere would want it,’ ” he boasted to New York magazine. “You’d assume they’d be having parades out in the streets. But that’s not the time in history we’re living...

The New York Daily News, a tabloid that once boasted one of the highest daily circulations in the nation, has been sold to tronc, the Chicago-based former Tribune Publishing company, the companies said Monday night. The News, a nearly 100-year-old media company, is based in Manhattan and was owned by Mortimer B. Zuckerman. “Adding an iconic media property like The Daily News not only expands our tremendous portfolio of newspaper brands, it also allows us to grow our digital platform and broaden our services for advertisers and marketers,” Dearborn said.

The New York Daily News, which bills itself as "New York's Hometown Newspaper," has been acquired by newspaper publisher Tronc. The deal was struck for $1 and the assumption of pension and operational liabilities, according to The Chicago Tribune, which is owned by Tronc. The sale price is 50 cents less than the Sunday edition of the newspaper and matches the weekday newsstand price of $1 per copy. In 1993, real estate magnate Mort Zuckerman bought it for $36 million. The newspaper's liabilities may exceed $30 million, The New York Times said. Chicago-based Tronc (TRNC), which also publishes the Los...

Dozens of protesters were arrested in front of Trump Tower in New York after today’s announcement that the Trump administration is ending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, five years after it was introduced. A total of 34 people have been arrested, according to the New York Police Department. No injuries to protesters or police officers have been reported, and the crowd has thinned since it started. If protesters were cooperative and turned over their personal information to police, including name, address and date of birth, they were given a special ticket and were not fingerprinted, officials said;...

The sale of the New York Daily News for a dollar isn't the death of the sleazy leftist tabloid. It died a while back.   Today, the Daily News is best known for its trolling front pages. That and bizarre trolling hate pieces from a staff of repurposed and unqualified trash like Linda Stasi, a former Post movie critic turned hate spewing bigot, and sportswriter Mike Lupica, trying to churn out political commentary. Stasi summoned a boycott of the already failing paper when she blamed one of the victims of the Muslim terror attack in San Bernardino because he was a...

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D.) didn't mince words about President Donald Trump in an interview published Monday, calling him "profoundly racist" and "a spoiled brat." Tagging Trump as a creation of the city's "tabloid culture," de Blasio said Trump shouldn't be mistaken for a typical New Yorker in an interview with New York Magazine

They are the schools Mayor de Blasio doesn’t mention. At 32 city elementary and middle schools, the average English-math proficiency rate on state exams has not exceeded 10 percent of students for four years in a row. Seventeen of these schools — which enroll nearly 10,000 kids — have been part of the mayor’s signature Renewal program, which has spent $582 million on teacher training, social services and an extra hour a day of instruction. Four did so poorly that the city Department of Education closed them in June. ... Families for Excellent Schools, a pro-charter-school group that analyzed the test...

NEW YORK CITY — Controversial Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio appears to be backing down from his crusade against “symbols of hate” in the Big Apple amid significant political pressure. In the wake of the clashes between right and left-wing protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia, which led to a surge in calls from the left for the removal of Confederate statues and monuments across the country, de Blasio got on board with the trend and said he would conduct a 90-day review of all “symbols of hate” on city property. He later refused to say that Christopher Columbus’ statue in the...

New York City is now the most expensive place in the U.S. to buy cigarettes thanks to a new price hike Mayor Bill de Blasio signed into law Monday. The Associated Press (AP) reports that the new legislation includes a price hike that would raise the price of a pack of cigarettes to $13 a pack and restrictions on the number of places allowed to sell cigarettes.

The NYPD has to scrap the 36,000 smartphones it gave cops over the past two years because they’re already obsolete and can’t be upgraded, The Post has learned. The city bought Microsoft-based Nokia smartphones as part of a $160 million NYPD Mobility Initiative that Mayor Bill de Blasio touted as “a huge step into the 21st century.” But just months after the last phone was handed out, officials plan to begin replacing them all with brand-new iPhones by the end of the year, sources said.

Replaced side altar at Saint Patrick's cathedral For the past few years, Rorate has updated readers with photos and reports of the beautiful restoration of Saint Patrick's cathedral in New York City. You may recall the biggest change was the removal of the 1980s table-altar that was located closer to the nave than the existing main altar. Another change removed the tourist novelty hologram at the Holy Face side altar. The third major improvement was the deconstruction of the modernist statue of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, which occupied space formerly used as a side altar: We are pleased to report...

Roosevelt Island should be renamed because of FDR’s “racist” decision to send Japanese-Americans to internment camps during World War II, a new petition demands. Franklin Delano Roosevelt — who led the nation through the Great Depression and WWII and told Americans they had “nothing to fear but fear itself” — is nevertheless unworthy of having his name on the 147-acre island that is home to 9,700 New Yorkers, those behind the petition claim. “To add injury to insult, the name was taken away from the Native American people who were slaughtered by the American settlers,” said Margarita L., who started...

A controversial statue in New York of a doctor who operated on enslaved women has been defaced by a vandal who spray-painted the word “racist” on it. The Daily News reports that the graffiti defacing the statue of Dr. J. Marion Sims in Central Park was discovered early Saturday. […] Sims was known as the father of modern gynecology. But critics say his use of enslaved African-American women as experimental subjects was unethical. …

Well, if you want to lose faith in humanity and see the stupidity of hipster liberals in New York City, this is the video for you. Ami Horowitz took to the streets to talk about income inequality with some of the most insufferable people on the planet: progressives. Of course, they all felt it was a critical issue. One man was a member of the Working Families Party in the state. So, which country can we look to for guidance in solving this issue? How about socialist hellhole Venezuela?  It’s the nation with rolling blackouts, inadequate medical supplies, no toilet...

As the violence in Charlottesville has reignited a national debate over monuments dedicated to Confederate-era and other controversial figures, New York City is conducting its own review over "symbols of hate" and possibly taking aim at Christopher Columbus. New York City Mayor Mayor Bill de Blasio has announced a 90-day review by a commission of all "symbols of hate" on city property in the wake of violence at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, that was protesting the planned removal of a statue of Confederate general Robert E. Lee. The move has opened questions about a variety of monuments...

After more than 60 years, the Village Voice is shutting down its weekly print edition. Founded in 1955 and converted into a free weekly in 1996, the Voice built its name as one of the country’s first alt-weeklies by covering and critiquing New York politics, culture, and more with its distinctive downtown sensibility. The progressive alt-weekly plans to continue on in digital form, according to an announcement from Peter Barbey, who purchased it in October 2015 amid financial struggles, and will also continue to sponsor events like the Obie Awards and Pride Awards. “[The Voice] has been a beacon for...

“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.” George Orwell In what is eerily evocative of a Stalinist purge of history, all of American history is being scrubbed by the new fascists. George Washington and Thomas Jefferson are now in the cross hairs. It doesn’t matter to the fascists if it isn’t...

Current and former members of the New York City Police Department rallied in Brooklyn Saturday in support of former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. According to the Associated Press (via ESPN.com), approximately 75 "mostly minority" officers attended the rally and wore T-shirts featuring the hashtag "#imwithkap." Frank Serpico, who was played by Al Pacino in the 1973 film Serpico that depicted police corruption, was also in attendance. "He's trying to hold up this government up to our founding fathers," Serpico told the AP. Kaepernick, 29, has been an unrestricted free agent since he parted ways with the 49ers in...
