• Craigslist: Essay by a Teacher in a Black School

The truth is usually a tough thing to accept, so I understand if this is flagged. It would be a cowardly thing to do, but I understand it. Some people just ignore unpleasant truths. However, if you think ignoring the problem, or trying to censor the truth, will help our black children improve, you're dreaming. This is important, so I'm happy to repost - indefinitely if necessary. I find it interesting that NO ONE has had the intellect to refute anything in the essay. They can only attempt to censor it, as if doing so somehow makes it invalid. Weak minds, weak minds.

Apparently, granny will still be getting the full pat down experience at the airport instead of young Muslim men returning home from volatile, Jihad ridden regions of the world like Dagestan. Attorney General Eric Holder is warning Americans not to discriminate against Muslims in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombings. Attorney General Eric Holder declared Monday that the Justice Department is on the lookout for acts of violence or discrimination that signal a backlash to the Boston Marathon bombings earlier this month in which three people were killed and scores wounded. "Our investigation into this matter remains ongoing –...

It’s an Obama world. While we were preoccupied with other disastrous Obama policies, military bureaucrats under Barack Obama passed a new rule that barred loved ones from bringing Bibles to wounded soldiers. The US Military says they are rescinding the order but only after a Republican lawmaker denounced the policy on the House floor. Todd Starnes reported: Walter Reed National Military Medical Center said they are rescinding a policy that prohibits family members of wounded military troops from bringing Bibles or any religious reading materials to their loved ones. The decision to rescind the ban on Bibles came exactly one...

WASHINGTON – The government is likely to lose more than $1 billion in airline ticket taxes because lawmakers have left town for a month without resolving a partisan standoff over a bill to end the partial shutdown of the Federal Aviation Administration. The government already has lost more than $200 million since airlines are unable to collect taxes on ticket sales because the FAA's operating authority has expired. The Senate recessed on Tuesday until September, erasing any possibility for quickly resolving the issue. The House left Monday night. Caught up in the partisan acrimony are nearly 4,000 FAA employees who...

EVERETT – A cat who wandered into the Everett Police Department’s South Precinct parking lot later was killed at the city’s animal shelter, upsetting the animal’s owners. Police have been having problems with neighborhood cats, many feral, urinating on patrol motorcycles, Everett police Sgt. Robert Goetz said. Police asked animal control officers to help trap the cats, he said. One of the cats, Atalanta, was brought to the Everett Animal Shelter on Jan. 28, city spokeswoman Kate Reardon said. The shelter wasn’t able to find the cat’s owner. The animal wasn’t tagged or micro-chipped, she said.

The Labor Department said new jobless claims rose to a seasonally adjusted 531,000 last week, from an upwardly revised 520,000 the previous week. Wall Street economists had expected only a slight increase, according to Thomson Reuters. WASHINGTON -- The number of newly laid-off workers filing claims for jobless benefits rose more than expected last week, after falling in five of the past six weeks, as employers remain reluctant to hire even with the economy showing signs of recovery. The Labor Department said Thursday that new jobless claims rose to a seasonally adjusted 531,000 last week, from an upwardly revised 520,000...
  • The Olympics, Obama, and the Permanent Campaign (All 0, All the Time)

Chicago has lost its Olympics bid, despite Obama's insertion into the process. People are shocked because they figured that Obama would fly in if and only if the deal was done. But why? That assumes a typical allocation of the presidential prestige. President Obama has been anything but typical in the use of that asset. Let's remember that this is the President who in the last nine months has appeared on both 11:30 PM talk shows. This is the President who can be seen on TBS in a spot advertising the upcoming George Lopez Show. This is the President who...

HOUSTON - Michael Garza's parents say they weren't sure who to believe, their 8-year-old son or his reading teacher Savonya Depland Haston. -snip- After Michael calls the reading teacher "ma'am," Haston is heard on the tape replying "I'm not your ma'am. If I owned you, and you were my slave, I would beat you down." -snip On the tape, you hear her tell the class of 7 and 8-year-olds she could have charges filed against them and their parents for lying and violating her civil rights. "When you lie on me, I have the right to an attorney, I have...
  • Child care loopholes lead to easy money: Sisters get $540k from state for watching each other's kids

The two-story house on 17th St. looks typical of the working-class homes on Racine's west side. Three bedrooms, one bath. Assessed by the city at $122,000. Yet inside, a young woman has tapped into a home-based money-making operation that netted her and her three sisters more than half a million in taxpayer dollars since 2006. And they did it with the blessing of the state. All four had been in-home child-care providers. Collectively they have 17 children. For years, the government has paid them to stay home and care for each other's children. Nothing illegal about it under the rules...
  • Fact-Checking Barack (Obambi claims credit for legislation when he skipped the vote)

Barack Obama has a new television ad that is playing in a number of states: In the ad, Obama claims credit for three pieces of legislation. In one case, the claim is reasonable. The other two are bogus. Obama says that "I... cut taxes for working families," citing Illinois Public Act: PA 91-0700, the Illinois Earned Income Tax Credit of 2000. Given the collaborative nature of any legislation, Obama's claim that "I cut taxes" is pretentious at best. As it happens, though, Obama was only a minor player with respect to the Earned Income Tax Credit Act. In fact, he...

A few nights ago, at a party in Hollywood, I overheard the following exchange. A woman in her 30s was explaining to another woman in her 30s what she had been up to recently. “I’ve been spending a lot of time getting into Feldenkrais,” she said, over the music. The other woman looked at her strangely and said nothing. “It’s been great. Just great,” she continued. No response. Just a kind of baffled half-smile. “Have you ever thought about getting into it?” she asked. “It’s great for your lower back.” At this point, the other woman suddenly snapped. “Wait,” she...
