An OfficeMax call center in Peru is closing its doors, beginning layoffs in March, according to two sources. Layoffs should be completed in November. A news story in 2013 indicated 275 people worked at the Peru facility. Employees on Thursday were instructed not to speak to the media about the layoffs. OfficeMax merged with Office Depot in 2013. As previously reported, the combined company disappointed state lawmakers by locating its headquarters in Boca Raton, Fla. (Office Depot’s longtime home) and pulling out of Naperville, where OfficeMax had been headquartered. OfficeMax workers have dealt with uncertainty about their jobs for the...

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today announced that OfficeMax, a leading office products retailer, has joined a growing list of companies that have stopped advertising on Michael Savage's nationally-syndicated radio program because of the host's anti-Muslim views. CAIR recently reported that Savage, whose "The Savage Nation" airs on more than 300 radio stations nationwide, screamed attacks on Muslims, Islam and the Quran, Islam's revealed text, during his October 29, 2007, program. (subtitle-Major credit card associations and financial institutions are saying little ) MARCH 09, 2006 (COMPUTERWORLD) - The continued refusal by major credit card associations and financial institutions to identify the source of a data compromise that has resulted in a wave of debit card fraud worldwide is fueling concerns about the scope of the problem. It is also shining a spotlight on what may be growing attempts by criminal gangs to try to compromise PIN-based card transactions, which have until now been considered extremely secure, analysts said. The immediate furor was ignited earlier this week by Citibank, which acknowledged that...

Washington DC, Dec. 09, 2005 (CNA) - Intervening in the heated debate about the mention of Christmas on the public square, Concerned Women for America (CWA) presented a first Christmas list showing which businesses are honouring the Reason for the Season (the birth of Jesus), which ones are not, and which have mixed records. It first lists the corporation ‘Nice’ or friendly to the Original Christmas tradition.  This year Macy's joins the NICE list because it has returned the explicit mention of Christmas and Merry Christmas to its stores and its ads. L.L. Bean, on the other hand, just barely...

HOLIDAY BLUESLowe's listens: 'Christmas trees' Chain dumps 'holiday' reference after WND report, complaints One day after a WorldNetDaily story brought national exposure, the home-improvement retailer Lowe's dropped references to "Holiday Trees" in favor of "Christmas Trees" only. As WND reported, a Lowe's store in Austin, Texas, featured a banner that referred in English to "Holiday Trees" but in Spanish said "Christmas Trees." The American Family Association says its supporters contacted Lowe's to express their displeasure. The company responded in a statement: "To ensure consistency of our message and to avoid confusion among our customers, we are now referring to the...
