Kentucky State Police found the suspect, Joseph Thomas Johnson-Shanks, 25, of Missouri, in a wooded area close to Interstate 24, near where he allegedly shot the trooper after a car chase, police said.     TARPON SPRINGS -- A police officer was shot and killed overnight in Tarpon Springs, and a suspect has been taken into custody, authorities said.The shooting happened at 3 a.m. at or near 199 Grand Boulevard, a few blocks from the city's Sponge Docks. The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office and Tarpon Springs Police Department are investigating. Authorities haven't said whether there are any other injuries or identified the officer or suspect. No other information has been released. The sheriff's office said it will provide more details at a news conference this morning. Bay News 9 will carry the news conference live.

    A police chief in a small Texas town was shot multiple times during a traffic stop Saturday afternoon and later died, authorities said. Michael Pimentel served in Elmendorf, a suburb southeast of San Antonio with about 1,500 residents. According to Rosanne Hughes, spokeswoman of the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, Pimentel pulled over a vehicle in a residential area. There was a struggle and Pimentel was shot, Hughes said.
