  • IBD/TIPP: Americans' Economic Outlook Hits 14-Month High

Americans' view of the economy rebounded in early August from the worst level in several years to the best since June 2015, according to the IBD/TIPP Economic Optimism Index. The subgauge of the six-month economic outlook jumped to a still-dreary 44.7 from July's 36.7, which had matched the worst level since October 2013. The reading below the neutral 50 level still reflects a modestly pessimistic outlook. The improved sentiment comes amid news of higher wages... Separately, the National Federation of Independent Business reported on Tuesday that its Small Business Optimism Index rose slightly in July but remained on the soft...

The AP review of Clinton's calendar — her after-the-fact, official chronology of the events of her four-year term — identified at least 75 meetings with longtime political donors and loyalists, Clinton Foundation contributors and corporate and other outside interests that were either not recorded or listed with identifying details scrubbed. The AP found the omissions by comparing the 1,500-page document with separate planning schedules supplied to Clinton by aides in advance of each day's events. The names of at least 114 outsiders who met with Clinton were missing from her calendar, the records show...

Same name, very different results If you held back on installing November's Patch Tuesday updates last week after Microsoft fumbled an Outlook patch, it's apparently safe to go back in the water. Many IT managers and normal folks held off on last week's patching cycle after one Microsoft fix - KB 3097877 - broke several versions of Outlook. The error came in how the software handled fonts, and resulted in the email client crashing as soon as some emails were scrolled through. "We have re-released KB 3097877 for Windows 7 to address the Outlook difficulties that some customers experienced. We...

... Microsoft user forums have been flooded with complaints of issues with Outlook following the company's recent release of its monthly Patch Tuesday update bundle. The software giant released four critical patches and eight others ranked 'important' in its bundle earlier this week. But one of the patches - MS15-115 - is creating unintended side effects for Outlook users. The patch was intended to address a flaw in Windows' handling of fonts, and prevent remote code execution if an attacker convinces a user to either open a malicious document or visit an untrusted webpage that contains embedded fonts.

Microsoft has collaborated closely with U.S. intelligence services to allow users' communications to be intercepted, including helping the National Security Agency to circumvent the company's own encryption, top-secret documents obtained Thursday by the British Guardian show. The files provided by Edward Snowden illustrate the scale of co-operation between Silicon Valley and the intelligence agencies over the last three years. They also shed new light on the workings of the top-secret Prism program, which was disclosed by the Guardian and the Washington Post last month. According to the Guardian, the documents show that: snip

Despite everything Obama has done to ruin it, the economy is getting better. And while a growth rate of 2.3% and an unemployment rate of 8.3% are not exactly worth bragging about, the president is doing just that. The direction of the economy, it seems, is more important than the record of the past three years. The problem is that the present direction is largely the product of this administration's unprecedented deficit spending and of monetary loosening on the part of the Fed. Once these forms of stimulus are withdrawn, as they must be after the election, the direction of...

(Reuters) - Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called on Monday for a snap leadership vote in his Likud party, a contest he is expected to win and which could pave the way for an early national election in Israel. Some commentators said Netanyahu was quietly preparing for the possibility that President Barack Obama, with whom he has had a testy relationship, will win a second and final term in November, a year before Israel's currently scheduled ballot. Freed of campaigning interests if he wins, the Democratic president could redouble pressure on the rightist premier to accommodate the Palestinians in peacemaking, deepening...

You know things are really going badly for the White House when even The New York Times, the most powerful bastion of liberalism in America, is warning the president he is in serious trouble. Today’s New York Times/CBS News poll makes devastating reading for Barack Obama’s advisers, showing the nation’s mood at its lowest level for two years: "Americans are more pessimistic about the nation’s economic outlook and overall direction than they have been at any time since President Obama’s first two months in office, when the country was still officially ensnared in the Great Recession, according to the latest...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - State tax revenues continued to strengthen at the end of 2010, but even with that improvement the long-term outlook for most states "is still ominous," the Rockefeller Institute of Government said in a report released on Tuesday. "State fiscal recovery will be exceptionally slow and much longer compared to the prior recessions," said the group, which tracks states' finances and economies. Record revenue declines during the recession, increasing demands for more spending, and unemployment rates that remain nearly double their pre-recession levels mean that full economic recovery for many states will take several years, according to the...

WASHINGTON - A draft intelligence report on Iran suggests a change in the Tehran regime appears unlikely any time soon despite growing public anger over the country's economic woes, U.S. officials said Thursday. The report also anticipates little progress in getting Iran to halt its nuclear program or stop supporting militant groups in the region, officials familiar with the draft said on condition of anonymity because the report has not been released. The latest in a series of reports from the nation's 16 intelligence agencies, the new National Intelligence Estimate on Iran is nearly complete and could be shared with...
  • Nevada governor's Outlook password posted online

In blatant disregard of password security, the governor's office of Nevada uses a surprisingly predictable Outlook login and password. How do we know? Because the information was posted in a Word document available for download from the state website. Apparently the document was intended for gubernatorial aides responsible for sending out emails from the governor's office. The document has since been removed from the website. The password, "kennyc" appears to be a reference to former governor Kenny C. Guinn, showing both that the governor's office lacks creativity and that the password may not have been updated in some time. The...
  • Help, where are my wife's Outlook and Outlook Express files?

A few days ago my wife asked someone to install software on her Toshiba laptop, which runs XP Home. Her account (which she signs on as) is (for this purpose) "M." For whatever reason, the friend created a new account on the computer, call it "K." My wife tried using the computer afterward, and when she signed on as M, found that her data files apparently were gone. However, I looked, and saw that all of them were under a new folder for K, within "Documents and Settings." That part is OK. The real problem, though, is that her Outlook...
  • Best product/way to back up both Outlook and Outlook Express

    12/23/2006 5:17:01 AM PST · by rudy45 · 6 replies · 385+ views
lol spare the nasty comments about both products, please. I would like an EASY way to back up both products (one step backup if at all possible)...preferably freeware. Right now, for OE, I am using Outlook Express Backup Wizard. Is there a better product? I don't have anything for Outlook itself. I see that Outlook has a native file export feature, but it looks like I have to back up one folder at a time (?) Why did they design such a troublesome method? Thanks.

Exploits against the unpatched vulnerability in Microsoft's Internet Explorer are increasing and attackers are gathering momentum, researchers said Thursday. They warned that the problem would become worse if cyber criminals attack via e-mail next. "It might come to nothing, but it feels like a storm's coming," said Roger Thompson, the chief technology officer at Exploit Prevention Labs. "The potential is there. Call it a storm watch, not a storm warning." At least two different exploits have appeared this week, said Thompson, one linked to the Russian-made hacker exploit kit called WebAttacker, the other posted early Thursday on the xSec gray-hat...

I just bought my wife a new laptop and have gone wireless with it. My question is this: Is there a way she can access the email account on this computer from her computer? Both computers are running Microsoft Outlook. I will be unable to answer any questions on FR because of the filter at work.
