Thornburgh Say End 'Top Heavy' (Pa) Turnkpike Commission

Former Pa. Gov. Dick Thornburgh is the latest to call for ending the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. He notes that the " top-heavy" PTC, with more than 2,000 employees, manages 537 miles of turnpike highways; compared to PennDOT which manages nearly40,000 highway miles along with tens of thousands more miles of localroads, railways and bridges.

GOP Has The Frontrunners In Pa. Senate, Gov Races

Corbett, the front-runner among GOP hopefuls for the job, captures 48% to former Congressman Joe Hoeffel’s 26%. Against Scranton Mayor Christopher Doherty, Corbett wins 46% to 23%. Likely GOP Senate nominee Pat Toomey holds a slight lead over both Specter and Sestak in a look at potential 2010 general election match-ups,

Hey, The Inquirer Uses A "D"

The Philadelphia Inquirer in today's front page story managed to put a D after Stephen Stetler's name when reporting his resignation as Pennsylvania's revenue secretary shortly before Attorney General Tom Corbett announced that he was one of three officials being charged with six counts of conflict of interest, theft, and conspiracy. Granted the Inky didn't spell out the D as Democrat, nor did they put the word in the headline as they would have perhaps if another party had been involved,

So What Does Harrisburg Know About Sex?

KYW1060.com, yesterday, reported that state lawmakers were mulling mandatory sex education in public schools. While the story didn't mention a bill number, HB 1163 was the only one found in search for "sex education" at the website for the Pennsylvania General Assembly. Granted we might think our elected our experts on the matter of sex due to their amazing skill at finding imaginative ways of, well, giving it to us taxpayers, but one is puzzled at why they think it best to place a new mandate on public schools. Oh yeah, I forgot, silly me. They are good at finding...

Retired Congressman Says Dump Pa. Turnpike Commission

John E. Peterson, who represented Pennsylvania's 5th District in Congress from 1997 until his retirement in 2009, is saying dump the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. (snip) This morning, btw, five Republican state representatives filed a bill abolish the Turnpike Commission. HB 2134 would transfer the transfer its assets and functions to PennDOT. And did you know that the Turnpike was designed so that the straightaways could be negotiated at 102 mph and the curves at 90?

Only hours after Congressman Jim Gerlach (R-6) announced that he would run for Governor, state Representative Curt Schroder (R-Chester) declared his candidacy to replace Gerlach in the 6th District. Schroder had long said he would vie for Gerlach’s seat if the four-term Congressman stepped aside in favor of a gubernatorial run, and after filing paperwork with the Federal Election Commission weeks ago, his announcement was mostly a formality. But as Democrats continue to coalesce around Doug Pike, the contours of the race are becoming increasingly clear. “I have decided to enter this race to ensure that the values that built...

During the 1980 Conservative Republican revolution, President Reagan introduced a "big tent" philosophy into the Republican party, however this big tent revolved around a set group of Conservative principles which could not be ignored. These principles included fiscal conservatism, limited government, strong national defense, and family values became the set principles of the Republican party. In reality, Reagan wanted all that agreed with a set number of principles first, then strayed on other issues later. Over the past 4 years, the party corrupted by 5 terms in power began spending like liberals, expanding government, and even at times voting anti-family...
