*snip* Compare this with the House campaign body, the NRCC. After getting clobbered over the NY-23 race and Dede Scozzafava, the NRCC took a hands off approach and let local voters choose their candidates. Not the NRSC. It doubled up around the country igniting a civil war with the grassroots — a civil war that would have never happened but their getting into Florida and doubling down. The NRSC’s argument amounts to telling the world that voters exercising their right to pick their candidates are stupid and Jim DeMint is stupid for siding with the voters. One final thought —...

HARRISBURG - Republicans riding the wave of anti-incumbent sentiment took control of both chambers of the legislature on Tuesday. Retaining its grip on the Senate and unseating enough Democrats to get a majority in the House, the GOP could look forward to ruling the General Assembly as well as the governor's office, soon to be occupied by Tom Corbett. Voters swept out veterans in both parties Tuesday, including the House majority leader, Todd Eachus (D., Luzerne), and former House GOP leader John M. Perzel (R., Phila.), the latter running with the added burden of facing criminal charges. In the House,...

Republican Tom Corbett handily won the governorship last night beating Democrat Dan Onorato. The unofficial tally with 53 districts -- 40 in Philadelphia and 13 in Delaware County -- to go was 2,136,683 votes to 1,783,581. With Republicans retaining control of the state Senate and winning the state House, Pennsylvania can make the elephant its official mascot for at least the next two years. The senate race was much closer than expected and not called until after midnight when Democrat Joe Sestak conceded to Republican Pat Toomey. The unofficial tally as of midnight was 1,993,704 votes for Toomey to 1,916,284...

Democrats in Pennsylvania have spent all day hyping reports of higher-than-expected turnout in Philadelphia and other blue strongholds. But less than an hour before polls close, we're getting other estimates, and they paint to a more difficult path for Democratic Rep. Joe Sestak in his Senate race against Republican Pat Toomey. The poll-watching group Committee of Seventy says only a couple wards in Philly have so far reported turnout exceeding 30 percent — a far cry from predictions by city Democratic Party boss Bob Brady that turnout would surpass the 2006 election.

The polls opened at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. Because it was a short ballot, results may come in more quickly than usual. ... The first results are expected at around 8:30 p.m. "If the turnout is heavy in the middle of the state, it's going to be very good for Republicans. If the turnout is heavy in Philadelphia, it will be good for Democrats," Allegheny County Republican Committee Chairman Jim Roddey said. "The numbers that we were looking for for a good day for our candidates have been met -- if not exceeded -- statewide," Allegheny County...

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 31, 2010 GOP headed for PA sweep Pennsylvania flirted a little bit with Democrats in the final weeks of this year's election, making them think they might be able to pull off an upset in the Senate and/or Gubernatorial contests that had looked good as gone for most of the year. It looks like the GOP will in the end sweep those races though, if by smaller margins than they had shown in polling throughout much of 2010. In the Senate race Pat Toomey leads Joe Sestak 51-46 and in the race for Governor Tom Corbett is up...

Earlier today, Battle ‘10 reported on the continuing absentee ballot scandal in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, home to the 8th district congressional race. The race is widely seen as a bellwether, with Rep. Patrick Murphy a member of the appropriations committee. New reports are emerging that could spell trouble for Patrick Murphy’s campaign after it was revealed that his campaign manager controlled a post office box where voters were being instructed to send their absentee ballots. The ballots were then re-mailed to the county Board of Elections. A letter from a fictitious agency, the “Pennsylvania Voter Assistance Office,” was sent to...

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Democratic volunteer Carol LaBelle appears undaunted by this fall’s headwind of GOP enthusiasm as she works her way through a call list of fellow senior citizens at a phone bank in Center City. Along with about a dozen other volunteers at this Philadelphia office staffed and run by Organizing for America, LaBelle is trying to drum up support for the Democrats that top Pennsylvania's ticket this fall: gubernatorial nominee Dan Onorato and Rep. Joe Sestak, who with Republican Pat Toomey is locked in one of the tightest Senate battles in the country in 2010.

When Keith Rothfus hits the campaign trail, the bespectacled Republican attorney from Edgeworth spends a lot of time talking about 2006. That was the year when a political upstart overcame a big fundraising disadvantage to unseat Pennsylvania's 4th Congressional District incumbent, who was tied to an unpopular president during a wave year for the opposition party. And Mr. Rothfus is looking to replicate Rep. Jason Altmire's path in what is looking like a similar electoral tide -- though this time, it's the GOP advancing on the Democrats. Late last week the premier polling site, FiveThirtyEight, tweeted somberly: “I don't think people fully comprehend how scary the generic ballot numbers are for Democrats.” The biggest sway away from Democrats is coming from independent voters. The latest Gallup results give Republicans the broadest spread over Democrats in the history of generic-ballot polling. It’s also the first time the GOP has hit the magic 50 percent in the history of Gallup’s generic ballot. "For independent voters, it's like the rock-paper-scissors game,” says Democratic strategist Steve McMahon. “They want bi-partisan solutions and smart policy. But right now, a 'no' to more...

Dear Fellow Republicans and Conservatives, I am very excited to pass along some great news that I just received from Tom Marino. An independent poll conducted by Whit Ayres, Jon McHenry, and Dan Judy on July 28 through August 1 shows that GOP candidates are doing very well in the East. The most exciting news is that Tom Marino is ahead of Chris Carney! Tom Marino 52% vs. Chris Carney 37%The fact that Tom Marino is leading Chris Carney in the polls even though Carney has significantly better name recognition shows that we will be sending Tom to Washington, D.C....

The 10th District Democrat finished June sitting on more than $792,000. Carney’s second-quarter campaign finance report had not yet been published online early Thursday afternoon, but the numbers were provided to pa2010.com by his campaign. That’s more than 71 times the money held by Republican Tom Marino; the former U.S. Attorney finished June with just over $11,000 in the bank. Carney’s cash lead could prompt some political watchers to reevaluate Marino’s prospect in the cheap, northeast Pennsylvania media market. The race is currently No. 6 on the pa2010.com Congressional Power Rankings. Carney raised about $203,000 between April 29 and June...

Republican Pat Toomey continues to hold a modest advantage over Democrat Joe Sestak in the race to replace Arlen Specter as U.S. senator from Pennsylvania. A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in Pennsylvania shows Toomey attracting 45% of the vote, while Sestak earns 39%. Six percent (6%) prefer another candidate in the race, and 11% are undecided. The June 29 survey shows the race has changed little since the beginning of the month. This is the seventh Rasmussen Reports survey of the race in 2010, and a review of prior results highlights just how stable it's been...
