But by faith we eagerly await through the Spirit the righteousness for which we Hope. Galatians 5:5 Now that the entire Establishment Attack Machine both Left and Right believes the most important person in the world to destroy is a woman, does this mean women have arrived? Does Gov Palin mean that women have reached true equality w/men and we no longer need female set asides? Apparently she is the second most powerful person in America although many would argue most powerful, we can just tell the barren liberal hags to pack up and go home w/their significant other fire...

At a fundraiser in Canton, Ohio, this evening, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin had an interesting description of her speech to the Republican convention. “There Ohio was right out in front, right in front of me," Palin said. "The teleprompter got messed up, I couldn’t follow it, and I just decided I’d just talk to the people in front of me. It was Ohio.” This struck many of us -- who, as she spoke, followed along with her prepared remarks, and noted how closely she stuck to the script -- as an unusual claim. (Especially those of my colleagues on the...

ROME – Vice President Dick Cheney, not surprisingly, endorsed Gov. Sarah Palin as the Republican candidate to replace him, but the man who reshaped the office as much as other vice president in history suggested she would not necessarily replicate the role he has played under President Bush. “Each administration is different,” he said, speaking to reporters on Monday on the sun-dappled patio of the ambassador’s residence here. “And there’s no reason why Sarah Palin can’t be a successful vice president in a McCain administration.” Mr. Cheney’s remarks represented his first on Senator McCain’s choice as a running mate and...

The people of Alaska boast that they have the coldest state in the U.S. and "the hottest governor." In her younger days, Sarah Palin did come in second in the Miss Alaska beauty pageant but that's not the point. Republican John McCain named her just one week ago as his surprise pick for the vice presidency. This week, she was the star of the Republican National Convention and became the most talked-about person in America. They are right in Alaska; she is a hot commodity, though the Republicans may yet get burned. Most Americans have only started getting their first...

If you watched MSNBC on mute Wednesday night after Sarah Palin’s speech, it looked like the top story was that a hurricane swept through the North Pole and killed Santa Claus, so crestfallen were the network’s stars. It was the same with the sound up. Keith Olbermann’s first words after the applause in the Xcel Center finally died down were, “That appears to be the end of it.” He sounded relieved. The same man who literally couldn’t find anything wrong with Barack Obama’s speech in Denver last week — calling it “spellbinding,” “fully realized” and “tough” — found that the...

Why Palin’s Speech Worked A former vice-presidential speechwriter breaks it down. 4 September 2008 Last night, Sarah Palin, the previously obscure governor of Alaska, demonstrated before a national audience that she has an extraordinary ability to communicate with Americans. As someone who used to make her living writing political speeches, I can say that Palin certainly knows how to deliver one. She is talented at properly inflecting words to maximize dramatic punch, and she doesn’t stumble over timing. These skills, and not the writing, are what make it possible for an audience to really hear a speech. Consider that the...

More than 40 million tune in to Palin’s speechBoth Palin and Obama reached about the same number of viewersLOS ANGELES - Barack Obama apparently isn’t the only “rock star” in presidential politics this year. After days of intense media coverage about Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s qualifications, more than 40 million Americans tuned in Wednesday to see for themselves what they thought of her. The huge audience for Palin’s acceptance speech rivaled that for Obama’s address at the Democratic National Convention six days earlier, and set a tough standard for the top of her own ticket. John McCain was...

Sarah Palin, the Republicans' surprise choice for vice president, took direct aim at her detractors Wednesday as she reached out to a nation eager to hear her life story. "I'm not a member of the permanent political establishment," said Palin, claiming her spot as the first woman on a GOP ticket for the White House. "And I've learned quickly, these past few days, that if you're not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone. "But here's a little news flash for all those reporters and...

Never before, at least in my memory, has a vice presidential nominee so wowed a convention, and never before has a vice presidential nominee been so pivotal to a presidential candidate's campaign. John McCain made a high stakes bet and has collected big time. Since Palin's selection was announced Aug. 29 in Dayton, mainstream media has been trying to discredit Palin--even setting a betting line on when she would be dropped from the ticket. Those bets now seem to be worth less than shares of Bear Stearns. --- The American Margaret Thatcher? Too soon to say. But consider this: Lady...

There is a lot to say about Sarah Palin’s performance last night, but perhaps the place to begin is with this observation: Boy did Democrats choose the wrong hockey mom to pick a fight with. 1. It’s always difficult to judge these things in real time, but my sense is that what happened last evening was a genuinely important political moment. It was important above all for Sarah Palin, who, under enormous pressure, delivered her speech flawlessly, with grace and style, in a way that was elegant, effective, and accessible. She is a supremely gifted political talent, both captivating and...

Sen. Barack Obama ditched his normal languid cool today, punching back at Gov. Sarah Palin as he spoke with reporters in York, Pa, hotly defending his work as a community organizer. He said he assumes Palin "wants to be treated same way guys want to be treated, which means their records are under scrutinty. I've been through this for 19 months. She's been through it, what four days?" Obama's hackles were clearly raised by Palin's dismissal of his community organizing --a response to his earlier dismissal of her record as a small-town mayor. "Why would that kind of work be...

Following is the speech Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin delivered Wednesday night in St. Paul, Minn., in accepting the Republican Party's nomination for vice president.Mr. Chairman, delegates and fellow citizens: I am honored to be considered for the nomination for vice president of the United States. I accept the call to help our nominee for president to serve and defend America. I accept the challenge of a tough fight in this election against confident opponents at a crucial hour for our country. And I accept the privilege of serving with a man who has come through much harder missions and met...

As Roosevelt was approaching the podium, out of view of the spectators, he reached out to shake hands with the elderly poet Edwin Markham and fell. Helpless to rise on his own, Roosevelt was furious; his speech text flew out of his hands. But aides quickly helped him rise and, on the arm of his son James Roosevelt, made his way to the podium and began speaking to the 100,000 in the stadium and a nationwide radio audience. But the pages of his speech text were out of order. Quickly, without a hint of irritation or hesitation, he reshuffled them...

Reaction to Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin's debut speech before the party's convention in St Paul, Minnesota. MIKE DUFFY, TIME MAGAZINE Only a few times in the last 25 years have we seen what we saw here tonight. It happened in Chicago in 2004 with Barack Obama and it happened here tonight: a star was born. NEW YORK TIMES Sarah Palin, the vice presidential nominee, was a combative and witty relief at a torpid convention. But it was bizarre hearing the running mate of a 26-year veteran of Congress, a woman who was picked to placate the right-wing elite, mocking...

Was VP pick Sarah Palin's speech effective in introducing herself and boosting John McCain's campaign? * 474659 responses Yes. Her speech proves she is ready for an all-out fight. No. She spent too much time trying to mock Obama. It remains to be seen what she can do on the campaign trail without a teleprompter and speech writer.

If only Brian Ross, ABC News and the rest of the mainstream media would spend as many news minutes on Obama's dealings with Wright, Rezko, Ayers, et.al. Sigh..........

Perhaps it was the enormous will on the part of America’s liberal media that Sarah Palin should make a mess of her speech at the convention that willed her so much to succeed. She certainly did. The speech fulfilled, and in some respects exceeded, the requirements of such an occasion. It did this by fulfilling, and in some respects exceeding, the expectations of the Republican faithful.

Sarah Palin has turned the political world upside down. Less than a week after she was plucked from the back bench of the GOP, Palin wowed her party's convention last night and served notice that the presidential campaign is a whole new ballgame. One minute she was a winning debutante, the next a tough hockey mom and always a fierce advocate for John McCain. She called herself a "gal" and was full of humor and bite, mocking Barack Obama's experience as a community organizer and even his eloquence. She used sarcasm, a baby-doll voice and a confident delivery in the...

NEW YORK (AP) — More than 40 million people tuned in to the Republican convention Wednesday to hear vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin introduce herself to voters. That audience rivaled the one for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama last week. Nielsen Media Research estimated 37.2 million people watched Palin on either ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Fox News Channel or MSNBC. PBS estimated it had four million viewers for the speech. Last week Obama had 38.4 million viewers on the commercial networks, topping 40 million with PBS and C-SPAN added in.

Palin’s speech was much more than an international introduction to McCain’s surprise running mate. The speech properly framed the debate of the 2008 election. Palin didn’t just launch a full scale frontal attack on the Obama-Biden ticket; she had stolen the right to frame the entire debate from the left-wing press who had been framing election debates for far too long. Yes, the Obama camp is in trouble against the McCain – Palin ticket. But so is the lamestream press who has been carrying their water up to this point. The left-wing press attack dogs started attacking Friday morning and...

Flemington, NJ, September 4, 2008 – Results from a national survey group conducted tonight among 1,000 self-reported Democrats, Republicans and Independents revealed that perceptions of GOP vice presidential pick Governor Sarah Palin improved after viewing her acceptance speech. The study was conducted by HCD Research and the Muhlenberg College Institute of Public Opinion (MCIPO) to obtain Americans’ perceptions of the speech given by Sarah Palin at the Republican National Convention earlier tonight. Among the study findings: After viewing Palin’s speech, a greater number of respondents across all parties believe that selecting Governor Sarah Palin for vice president will help John...

NOW WE SEE why the liberal establishment has been trying for the last few days to destroy Sarah Palin. She is a threat to their hopes to take the White House this year, a threat to their broader claims to speak for youth, for women, and for the future, and a threat to their attempt to control the high ground in the culture war. After her stunning success last night, some in the liberal media may retire from the ring for a while. Others, with the threat now even more evident, may redouble their assaults and become even more desperate...

UK Sun: Palin "Simply Stunning" Palin strikes back at critics From FERGUS SHANAHAN in Minnesota Published: Today A WEEK ago nobody had ever heard of her. Today she is the most talked-about woman in the world. And with good reason. Sarah Palin's sensational performance at the Republican Party Convention may turn out to be the tipping point of this rollercoaster American election. Obama fans hoping she would fluff her big night were in for a nasty shock. This speech has turned the election upside down. It was simply stunning. Democrats and their Lefty media backers had been sneering that she...

ST. PAUL, MINN. -- It took until the third night for this Republican National Convention to start to act like one, but liftoff was finally achieved thanks to Sarah Palin, the woman who has made this convention, this week and perhaps this campaign a referendum on herself. The governor of Alaska, 20 months out of Wasilla and bearing down on the White House, infused what had been a lackluster confab with her personal mix of offense, defense and celebration of small-town America. In a line that summed up her down-home appeal and her role as designated hitter, Palin asked the...

Go figure, huh? Why, it’s even stranger than finding the media mistaking a Democrat for a “lifelong Republicans.” Or Andrew Sullivan for someone who’s “right-leaning.” Ilene Beninson, 52, Berkley independent: “Her speech contained few statements about policy or the party platform. … I am not convinced that Palin’s experience as a mayor or governor in Alaska meet the qualifications to be vice president much less one stroke or heart attack away from being commander in chief.” Maybe Beninson’s in line with independent thinking notwithstanding her affinity for Mother Sheehan, though. Who knows?Actually, I do. Palinmania:After viewing Palin’s speech, a greater...

I'm now watching Democratic pundits say, "Gloves are off. We saw last night that Sarah Palin is an experienced and practiced pol. We don't need to be defensive about going after a woman." Pre-speech: Inexperienced, backwater rube. Post-speech: Polished veteran attack machine McBrilliant!

ST. PAUL - If you drive around my home state of Alaska for very long, you're sure to see a bumper sticker exclaiming, "Alaska girls kick ass." Last night, "Sarah Barracuda" more than lived up to that slogan as she fought back at the media and Washington naysayers who've ridiculed her as a bimbo bumpkin interloper and showed she isn't going to be pushed around. Had the media not been viciously attacking her family for the last few days, the speech might've seemed too tough. With that backdrop, it was more than appropriate. The Obama camp also gave her the...

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Storm delays, family infighting and general malaise finally behind them, Republicans at long last have themselves a convention. And they have Sarah Palin to thank for that. In the Midwest darkness here last night, she walked out on stage and a GOP star was born. After a week of being trashed and smeared from sea to shining sea, Palin did something no one could have imagined based on the caricature she and her family had become. It was the biggest moment of either convention.

A bit nervous at the beginning .. and then she warmed up. It's clear that Sarah Palin, like Barack Obama, loves being before a crowd. I thought she did a particularly good job taking jabs at the Northeastern media elite and at Obama. I particularly liked the line: "Here's how I look at the choice Americans face in this election. In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers. And then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change." No ... I didn't watch the speech from our skybox at the...

The Detroit Free Press invited a panel of Michigan voters to weigh in on Gov. Sarah Palin's speech last night. Their reactions run the gamut, but the independents didn't seem to care for her very much. Ilene Beninson, 52, Berkley independent: "Her speech contained few statements about policy or the party platform. … I am not convinced that Palin's experience as a mayor or governor in Alaska meet the qualifications to be vice president much less one stroke or heart attack away from being commander in chief.”

I thought Palin's speech was quite good: well-written, well delivered. And, as I said earlier, I think she's a genuinely engaging person, and comes across very well. There were just a couple of problems. One, which I have seen people notice, but which I suspect won't be a big deal for a lot of voters, is that it had very little substance. The other, which the commenters I saw on TV for some reason neglected to mention, was that she told a lot of lies. A few that stood out for me, or that I spotted in my quick run-through...

I teach at a Catholic university. I study and write about evangelical Protestants. I have no religious convictions of my own. This bothers people who insist that if you are not yourself religious you cannot possibly "get" religion. I leave it to others to decide whether my lack of faith helps or hinders my capacity to understand the subject. But I do know one thing. Because of where I teach and who I study, I have come across some remarkable people I otherwise would never have met. Familiar with the Catholic tradition, I cannot say I am surprised to meet...

Sarah Palin delivered a great speech tonight -- for her party, for John McCain, for herself, for what she set out to accomplish. This was America's first real glimpse at the Alaska governor, and what we saw was a boffo politician who speaks in a plaintive prairie voice that channels America's Heartland like a chilling breeze rippling a field of wheat, who knows how to tell a joke, how to bring down the house and bring a tear to a few eyes. She is proud of her family, as she should be, and there is much to admire in her...

** EXCERPT ** ** snip ** Sarah Palin's coming out party has changed the dynamics of the race--and while the maxim is that veep nominees don't alter the fundamental electoral equation, there is no doubt that Palin's speech Wednesday night in St. Paul has the Obama campaign revving up the Payback Machine. Here are some of the things it's doing: 1) Immediate comment. Last night, the campaign sent out this statement from spokesman Bill Burton: "The speech that Governor Palin gave was well delivered, but it was written by George Bush's speechwriter and sounds exactly like the same divisive, partisan...

For me, there were so many great moments. One of my favorite moments: When Sarah Palin's speech ended and the cameras cut to Cindy McCain --Her reaction said it all. Last night's speech was the true spirit of America, the American dream and the essence of our founding political system. A couple of hours before Sarah Palin rocked the house in St. Paul last night, I caught a few minutes of Bill O'Reilly's interview with Sally Quinn, who is front and center among the female media elites chastising Sarah Palin for her supposed inability to manage the demands of the Vice Presidency with the role of nurturer in chief among her own brood. We women are not known for our capacity to mind our own business.
