Proposed Amendment Would Allow Tennessee to Ban Partial-Birth Abortion House rules must be suspended by 2/3 of members for the majority to get a fair vote. About a week ago I sent you an urgent message asking you to contact members of the Tennessee House to urge their support for SJR 127. It is the proposed constitutional amendment that will allow Tennessee to pass a Constitutionally sound ban on partial-birth abortion. I just wanted to give you a friendly reminder that there is still time to act. And, in fact, your action now may be more important than before. (I'll...

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- In a Sunday interview, pro-abortion presidential candidate Barack Obama defended his opposition to a ban on partial-birth abortions. Though he wasn't in Congress at the time it voted on the ban, he said he would have supported it had it contained a health exception. However, doctors and medical groups readily acknowledge that the three-day-long abortion procedure -- involving the killing of an unborn baby halfway through the birthing process - never helps women medically. Obama also claimed pro-life advocates only brought the partial-birth abortion ban forward only to "polarize" the abortion debate. Full story at: http://www.lifenews.com/nat3896.html

As transparently biased as the MSM is, it should raise flags when they ooh and ahh (24/7) over a politician, who, quite clearly, is also a Democrat with socialist views and a strong supporter of pro-abortion legislation, particularly the gruesome partial-birth abortion. I hope that the American people are not blinded by the continual media hype, and make an opinion based on the issues instead of the smooth talking, decent looks, and over-all charm. I’ve been disappointed to hear even friends of mine mention that simply because Barack Hussein Obama, Jr. speaks well and looks good, that he would make...

The mainstream media makes much hay about conservatives being split between candidates, but none whatsoever about liberals being split – particularly abortion proponents. Most notably, Planned Parenthood affiliates are divided between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. The rift was readily demonstrated in New Hampshire last weekend where the fight really took off over which of the two was more ardently pro-abortion.(snip)Illinois PP and NOW now say Obama's voting "present" was a tactic they devised to show liberal senators a way out who were squirmy on voting to support aborting babies alive and letting them die in hospital soiled utility rooms,...

by Steven ErteltLifeNews.com EditorAugust 31, 2007Topeka, KS (LifeNews.com) -- A top pro-life Kansas lawmaker is backing down from proposing more restrictions on late-term abortions. Instead, state Rep. Arlen Siegfreid says he wants to make sure the health department is following the law and accurately and adequately reporting how many of the abortions are done and why.Siegfried also wants to propose new legislation making the reporting requirements for abortion practitioners more thorough.Current state law requires that late-term abortions only be done to save a woman's life or to prevent “substantial and irreversible harm” to “a major bodily function.” However, Wichita abortion...

Notorious Abortionist Tiller Charged and Arraigned on 19 Criminal Counts Operation Rescue says Wichita clinic closed for unprecedented two weeks By Peter J. Smith WICHITA, Kansas, August 7, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Notorious abortionist George R. Tiller turned himself over to Sedwick County Sheriffs for his arraignment last Friday on 19 criminal misdemeanor counts for illegal late-term abortions. Tiller was processed and released by authorities, but did not appear in court himself. His attorney, Lee Thompson, entered "not guilty" to all counts on his behalf. Tiller was originally to be arraigned today in Court, however his attorney made the surprise move...

Baton Rouge, LA (LifeNews.com) -- The Louisiana Senate moved a bill further ahead that would ban partial-birth abortions in the state. Lawmakers there are hoping to put a new ban on the books after an April Supreme Court decision saying such bans are constitutional and that a federal ban on the gruesome abortion procedure is valid. Senators voted 38-0 to approve a bill sponsored by Democratic Sen. Ben Nevers that would ban the abortions in the state unless the life of he mother is in danger, even though the procedure is never necessary to protect a woman’s health.According to an...

The pro-life community has a proud tradition of standing up for those who can't speak for themselves. No other social cause in American politics, perhaps other than the anti-slavery movement of the 19th century, has the kind of moral authority we do when it comes to advocating for the basic human rights of all people. That's why I'm saddened to see representatives of pro-life groups attacking other pro-life advocates today in the national media. Sadly, a handful of organizations have taken it upon themselves to attack other pro-life groups who supported the ban on partial-birth abortions and applauded the Supreme...

Lansing, MI (LifeNews.com) -- A federal appeals court has ruled the Michigan ban on partial-birth abortions unconstitutional in a decision released Monday. The court released the decision because the language of the ban in Michigan is different from the language of the federal partial-birth abortion ban the Supreme Court recently upheld. The U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals said it was reluctant to overturn the law, but indicated that Michigan legislators could have used other bans as models, such as an Ohio ban that it had already upheld. "We certainly are reluctant to interfere with a statute that represents the...

Baton Rouge, LA (LifeNews.com) -- The Louisiana state House approved a bill that would ban partial-birth abortions on Thursday by a unanimous 100-0 vote. The measure is a reaction to the Supreme Court's recent decision upholding a federal partial-birth abortion ban and a means to step up enforcement of the ban there. “This is about a method of killing, killing an innocent life,” Rep. Gary Beard, a Republican, told his colleagues. Beard said there are 300 such abortions in Louisiana and he wants to make sure the abortions are prohibited. A state law would give the national ban better enforcement...

Is it significant that the five Supreme Court justices who voted to uphold the federal ban on a controversial abortion procedure also happen to be the court's Roman Catholics? It is to Tony Auth, the Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist for the Philadelphia Inquirer. He drew Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. and Justices Antonin Scalia, Anthony M. Kennedy, Clarence Thomas and Samuel A. Alito Jr. wearing bishop's miters, and labeled his cartoon "Church and State." Rosie O'Donnell and Barbara Walters hashed out the issue on "The View," with O'Donnell noting that a majority of the court is Catholic and wondering about...

When Republican strategist Michelle Laxalt tried to describe the clinical reality of partial-birth abortion on MSNBC this morning at about 10:55 AM EDT, MSNBC host Chris Jansing [file photo] cut her off, saying she didn't want to get into an "emotional debate." By all means. Let's not confuse people with the facts. Better to focus on the antiseptic "right to choose" without letting the gruesome reality of the matter intrude. In partial birth birth abortion, the near-term baby's skull is collapsed and its brains are sucked out. Immediately after stopping Laxalt just as she was about to state that,...

There is a political lesson behind today's Supreme Ct decision on partial birth abortion that some of you who now oppose Rudy Giuliani need to think about. Back in 2004, Pat Toomey challenged Arlen Specter in PA for the nomination to the U.S. Senate. Both Rick Santorum and George Bush backed Santorum. They did so for three reasons. First, they believed Toomey had little chance to win in the general election whereas it was virtually certain Specter would win if nominated. Second, the Senate was too evenly divided between Democrats and Republicans to risk losing even one seat--which would mean...

Summary of Partial-Birth Ruling: Ginsburg’s Dissent [Ed Whelan] The press of business compels a very quick summary of Justice Ginsburg’s dissent (which is full of fiery rhetoric): The Court’s decision refuses to take Casey and Stenberg seriously. A health exception is necessary. The Court blurs the line between pre-viability and post-viability. Its holding regarding facial challenges is inconsistent with precedent. The only redemptive feature of the opinion is that as-applied challenges may proceed.

Key Facts on Partial-Birth Abortion (excerpts) In a partial-birth abortion, the abortionist pulls a living baby feet-first out of the womb and into the birth canal (vagina), except for the head, which the abortionist purposely keeps lodged just inside the cervix (the opening to the womb). The abortionist punctures the base of the baby’s skull with a surgical instrument, such as a long surgical scissors or a pointed hollow metal tube called a trochar. He then inserts a catheter (tube) into the wound, and removes the baby's brain with a powerful suction machine. This causes the skull to collapse, after...

Can lawyers debate the butchering of innocent children while keeping a straight face, and a settled stomach? The answer, apparently, is "almost." At least that's what I saw from my center seat at the Supreme Court arguments Wednesday on partial birth abortion. I came away with three observations.

To give taxpayer money to any abortion provider is inappropriate, yet the government is providing millions of dollars to Planned Parenthood every year. Particularly for the many Americans who object to abortion on moral grounds, this use of taxpayer dollars is reprehensible. We strongly support Sen. WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court's new term has cases on abortion, the environment and racial diversity in schools, some of the country's most contentious social issues for a court primed to shift sharply to the right by President George W. Bush's conservative appointees. The nation's highest court, with Bush's two appointees, could decide to limit or overturn recent precedents upholding abortion rights for women and programs to foster a racially diverse student body, legal experts said. "The term is going to be a bellwether on the shift in the court's ideology. The court is revisiting a series of...

The high court announced Aug. 14 it would hear arguments in two cases involving the Partial-birth Abortion Ban Act the day after the general election. A free online video demonstration of a partial-birth abortion is now available online, thanks to gynecologist Dr. William Lile and R.A.G.E. Media. The footage, taken from Dr. Lile’s DVD presentation “The Miracle of Life,” shows Dr. Lile using the actual abortionists’ tools to demonstrate how the procedure is performed, using only a sheet, a chair, and a baby doll – no blood or disturbing images. However, it is apparent that the procedure is not a lifesaving measure, as the entire child must be delivered via an intrusive process that can take days. “This is a whole new generation from what...

The John Cardinal O'Connor Award was given to the Santorums in recognition of "the courage, nobility, and love with which they live their vocation to marriage and family life," Mother Agnes Mary, the superior general (a former professor...

SAN FRANCISCO - An appeals court ruled Tuesday that the federal law banning 'partial-birth' abortion is unconstitutional, saying the measure is vague and lacks an exception for cases in which a woman’s health is at stake.

Of course, what I see as common sense will probably infuriate some who disagree. I have already disappointed and angered some of my conservative friends because, although I will work tirelessly to reverse Roe vs. Wade, I favor no restrictions on first-trimester abortion. Some see this as a contradictory position, but perhaps they do not realize what the Roe vs. Wade decision opened up in this country, nor do they really understand what was in store for many women before abortion became legal.

SAN FRANCISCO -- A Bush administration lawyer urged a federal appeals court today to reinstate the first federal ban on a specific type of abortion, saying judges should bow to congressional findings that the procedure is unnecessary, immoral and dangerous. "Congress is due respect as a coequal branch of government'' and is "better situated (than the courts) to amass and weigh evidence,'' Justice Department lawyer Gregory Katsas told the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco. The law, known as the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003, has been declared unconstitutional by every federal court that has reviewed...

As recently as October 1, 2005 the plea for the Supreme Court to reinstate the Partial Birth Abortion Act is still being made. The ban on partial abortions would prevent the fetus (usually in its second or third trimester) from being delivered and then executed. The ban was officially signed into law by President Bush in 2003. Recent upheaval about the reinstitution of the ban has resulted from many loopholes in the abortion process. According to Susan B. Anthony List.com, one example of an abortion violation occurred in the state of Minnesota during 2002. The following case was performed only...

She's been pinned down at least three times, reduced to "uh, um ,well, er..." and is stooping to Clinton ian evasion such as questioning the meaning of the word "intact" in intact D&E. Giving the example of "well, what if a toe falls off accidentally during delivery?"....

WASHINGTON — The Bush administration has asked the Supreme Court to reinstate a ban on "partial birth" abortions, setting up a showdown that could be decided by the president's new choice for the court. The appeal, which had been expected, follows a two-year, cross-country legal fight over the federal law. An appeals court in St. Louis said this summer that the ban on late term abortion is unconstitutional because it makes no exception for the health of the woman.

RICHMOND, Va. - A federal appeals court Friday denied a request by Virginia's attorney general to rehear a case challenging a state law banning a type of late-term abortion. In June, a divided three-judge panel of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Virginia's law banning what anti-abortion activists call "partial-birth abortion" is unconstitutional because the law lacks an exception to protect a woman's health. The Center for Reproductive Rights challenged the law when it was passed by the General Assembly in 2003, and a federal judge blocked its enforcement. Following the appellate panel's ruling, Attorney General Judith...

What happens when a court constitutionalizes infanticide? We ask the question because a federal appeals court in Virginia appears to have done just that. In a contentious 2-1 decision last week that places Virginia in the hot seat of the abortion debate, the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond threw out Virginia's partial-birth abortion ban, sanctioning the actions of an abortionist plaintiff who crushes the heads and dismembers the arms and legs of infants as they emerge from the womb. The law the court struck down was similar to the partial-birth abortion ban Congress passed in 2003 and...

Veto of Abortion Clinic Bill Helped Key DonorBy Kathleen RhodesCNSNews.com CorrespondentFebruary 28, 2005(CNSNews.com) - Kansas Democratic Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, who's under fire for her controversial veto of a bill critics say might have prevented the recent death of a woman in a botched abortion, accepted thousands of dollars in political donations from the owner of the clinic that performed the dead woman's abortion. SPRINGFIELD -- On Thursday of this week, legislation determining whether a baby born alive is to be defined as “a person” in Illinois will face its first hurdle in the state’s General Assembly. It is likely to be heard in the House Judiciary I Committee, now chaired by Chicago Democrat Rep. John Fritchey. Similar proposals have been stopped four times in the past five years, but supporters say that because the language is simplified, the odds have increased that it may be finally successful in getting through the Illinois House committee. This movement is despite resistance by Planned Parenthood and...

Liberals are talking about the Blue States seceding from the Union. There’s a map on the Internet of the Blue States joining Canada. This is too serious for idle talk from the chattering class. Secession, if followed by invasion, conquest, occupation and ultimately cultural cleansing, is a terrible thing. Trust me, Southerners know about this. We need to help these Liberal hotheads cool down. First, are the root causes worthy of sundering the Great Experiment – Democracy in America? Apparently, the two most important reasons for secession are partial-birth abortion and homosexual marriage. The Liberals are kidding, right? They can’t...

WASHINGTON, Dec. 23 - Democratic leaders say their party needs to de-emphasize the issue of abortion rights, concerned that Republicans have hurt the Democratic Party by portraying it as an uncompromising champion of abortion. In interviews and public appearances since Election Day, Democratic officials have said that the party should open its doors to abortion opponents and that candidates should make abortion a less central focus of future campaigns. Party leaders said they were not abandoning their fundamental support for abortion rights, but said Democrats should consider accepting some restrictions that enjoy popular support - like parental notification when teenagers...

BARE NAKED TRUTH: According to the Associated Press former Baywatch star Pamela Anderson came to the "controversial" decision to bare it all for some upcoming Chinese billboards on behalf of PETA's "fur is dead" campaign. The only thing intriguing about the story is Pamela's quote: "I'm perfectly happy to bare my skin if it will help save animals' skins," Anderson said. It is hypocritical on two levels... 1) Since when has Anderson ever needed a good cause to remove her clothing? But secondly and much more importantly 2)...

LINCOLN -- Twenty-six Republican members of Congress asked an appeals court Thursday to reinstate the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act, struck down by a federal judge in September. The House members sided with the U.S. Justice Department, saying in a friend-of-the-court brief that the government has a "vital and compelling interest in preventing the spread of the practice of abortion into infanticide." At issue is a federal law banning a procedure doctors call intact dilation and extraction, or D&X. Opponents call it partial-birth abortion. During the procedure, generally performed in the second trimester, a fetus is partly removed from the...

During the Civil War, few Americans knew what was really taking place on the battlefields. In 1863, one man, Alexander Gardner, a photographer in the new field of photogravure, dragged his wooden cameras and metal plates onto the killing fields and captured images of Americans slaughtered by one another. By way of couriers on horseback, Gardner sent his photo plates back to New York publishers, and, for the first time, American families saw the horrific images of their fathers, brothers, husbands, and sons lying dead and mutilated in once serene pastures. The result was the education of a people, and...

So Why Are They Voting for Kerry? It's called partisan politics. You see, I believe this president is one that we could have all rallied around. I believe his character and integrity is such that if people really gave him a chance, he'd go down in history as a very beloved president. I believe the reason that John...

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) _ A third federal judge ruled Wednesday that the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act is unconstitutional, saying it fails to include an exception when a woman's health is in danger. U.S. District Judge Richard Kopf in Lincoln said that Congress ignored the most experienced doctors in determining that the banned procedure would never be necessary _ a finding he called ``unreasonable.'' ``According to responsible medical opinion, there are times when the banned procedure is medically necessary to preserve the health of a woman and a respectful reading of the congressional record proves that point,'' Kopf wrote. ``No reasonable...
