  • State Dems don’t want Independents to vote in party primary (NY)

    NY Post ^ | 5/14/18 | Carl Campanile
New York Democratic leaders say they want more people to vote — except they won’t allow anyone but registered Democrats to vote in party primaries. The New York State Democratic Party plans on blocking a proposed resolution at its May 23-24 convention that would allow independent or “unaffiliated” voters to vote in this year’s Democratic primary for governor. New York’s restrictive voting laws became a national embarrassment in 2016 as many younger voters realized they couldn’t vote for Bernie Sanders in the presidential primary against Hillary Clinton because they missed the deadline to enroll as Democrats.

After using her parents’ credit card to rent a house in which to throw a wild party, a Canadian 14-year-old is in major trouble — $20,000 worth, actually. That’s the amount of damage the teens caused, and which her parents must now pay. Last week, police responded to a call that reported an “uncontrolled party” at a neighborhood home in West Vancouver, where nearly 200 teens were seen “flooding out” once officials arrived, according to CTV News. Left in their wake was a house with much destruction — to walls, furniture, and artwork, all of which her parents will be...

A poll published on Monday by the newspaper Bild put the Alternative for Germany (AfD) at 16 percent, showing that they are currently more popular than the Social Democrats (SPD). The poll, conducted by INSA, put the AfD at 16 percent, just ahead of the SPD at 15.5 percent. The poll marks the lowest support ever achieved by the SPD, traditionally one of the two major parties of German politics. According to the poll, Angela Merkel’s Christian Democrats are the most popular party in the country and would secure 32 percent of the vote were elections to be held tomorrow....

A Florida teacher was fired after she reportedly threw an X-rated classroom party for students of young as 11-years-old featuring dildos, lollipop vaginas, and penis candles. The New York Post reports that parents of the Mater Lakes Academy, a school for grades six through 12 in Hialeah, became outraged after a dance teacher reportedly threw a party for a former student after school on Wednesday that included favors in the shape of phallic symbols. “In the videos, we see how they were preparing for the surprise party. And as the boy walked in, they surprised him with a hat that...

The son of former Fox News host Eric Bolling, who was found dead in his bed at his apartment in Boulder, Colorado, on Sept. 8, was on cocaine and other drugs during a party the night before his death, his friend has told the Daily Mail. Referring to the reports that suggested that the 19-year-old may have killed himself, his close friend Wayne Carter, 21, said the teenager would have never done that. Carter talked to the Daily Mail about Eric Jr.'s illicit substance consumption at the party, adding he was also sending his videos to friends via messaging app...

“The light passed about 100-200ft above their aircraft. They assumed it to be a drone and reported it to air traffic control. There was no time to take avoiding action,” said the report on the incident, which happened on May 26. ... In 2013 another A320 also had a narrow miss with an unidentified object over Glasgow. The A320 was flying with its landing lights on, in clear conditions and at an altitude of about 4,000ft above the Baillieston area of Glasgow, when the pilot and non-flying pilot saw an object “loom ahead” at a range of about 100m. RALEIGH, N.C. — The North Carolina Housing Finance Agency misused federal money meant to help homeowners rework their mortgages after the recession, according to a government watchdog. The Office of the Special Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program, commonly known as TARP, found more than $3 million in wasteful spending from the program's "Hardest Hit Fund" in housing agencies nationwide, including more than $107,000 in North Carolina, officials said. The N.C. Housing Finance Agency disputes the findings but has already begun paying the money back, executive director Scott Farmer said Wednesday.

California Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters wouldn’t rule out the concept of an all-black political party when asked about it on Monday. Waters joined  “The Breakfast Club” radio show on Monday morning and was asked if it was time for black people to form their own political party. “No, not at this point,” Waters said. “You have to show that you’re willing and you’re able to put the numbers together and exercise your influence.” “We still are not voting our influence yet,” she continued. “What we should do is organize our power, exercise our power, particularly in the Democratic Party because that’s...

A woman is dead and eight other people were wounded — including three kids — after a baby gender-reveal party in Ohio erupted in gunfire Saturday night, according to reports. Among the victims in the Colerain Township shooting was a pregnant woman who lost the baby after receiving a bullet to her leg, a family member told NBC affiliate WLWT. Authorities were searching for the assailant or assailants, who fled after shots rang out at a home around 11:30 p.m. Five of the revelers — one in critical condition, three in fair and one stable — were hospitalized at the...

**SNIP** The hobbled DNC's chief remaining value was as a fundraising vehicle. For Obama, it "was like his ATM – and Clinton was the same," says the former chair. Clinton pioneered a strategy that allowed her largest donors to give $10,000 to each of 32 state parties participating in her Victory Fund. But that money didn't stay in the states. Instead, nearly every penny was hoovered up to the DNC for the benefit of Clinton's election. Clinton today says she found the DNC to be a liability. In an onstage interview at a Recode tech conference in May, Clinton recalled,...
  • Republicans are predicting the beginning of the end of the tea party in Kansas

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Kansas was at the heart of the tea party revolution, a red state where, six years ago, a deeply conservative group of Republicans took the state for a hard right turn. Now, after their policies failed to produce the results GOP politicians promised, the state has become host to another revolution: a resurgence of moderate Republicans. Moderate Republicans joined with Democrats this week to raise state taxes, overriding GOP Gov. Sam Brownback’s veto and repudiating the conservative governor’s platform of ongoing tax cuts. The vote was a demonstration of the moderates’ newfound clout in the state...

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump made his debut on Washington's social circuit on Sunday by headlining an annual fundraiser for Ford's Theater, scene of Abraham Lincoln's assassination. Trump, accompanied by his wife, first lady Melania Trump, said he was glad to help continue "this long tradition of preserving one of America's most important theaters and honoring one of its greatest presidents and recognizing some of its most accomplished citizens." Trump said Ford's Theater contributes to the "vibrant culture of our nation's capital" and does "tremendous work" educating Americans about "a leader who preserved our nation in its single greatest...

Donald Trump may be off to the worst start in presidential history, but recent polls and election results show Democrats are even more unpopular than he is. What’s wrong with the Democrats? Recently I ran into a Democratic operative who was adamant that his dispirited party’s stock is rising. It’s looking good, for example, that with all Trump’s troubles, the donkey party finally will win enough seats in special elections this fall to take control of our state’s Legislature from the Republicans. “If Democrats can’t win this year,” he vowed, “we should be abolished as a political party.” Might not...

That will be the role Hollywood will chronicle in a movie praising ‘The Community Organizer Who Became President & “The President Who Returned to the Life of a Community Organizer’ Outgoing President Barack Obama is leaving the White House in the same venue in which he spent the last eight years: kicking up hedonistic heels for Party Time! The same freeloaders who spent the better part of the last decade boozing it up and gorging themselves at the White House, will whoop it up with party crazed Barack and Michelle as they party on out the door into—hopefully—community organizer oblivion.

There aren’t many people like Michael Wear in today’s Democratic Party. The former director of Barack Obama’s 2012 faith-outreach efforts is a theologically conservative evangelical Christian. He is opposed to both abortion and same-sex marriage, although he would argue that those are primarily theological positions, and other issues, including poverty and immigration, are also important to his faith. During his time working for Obama, Wear was often alone in many of his views, he writes in his new book, Reclaiming Hope. He helped with faith-outreach strategies for Obama’s 2008 campaign, but was surprised when some state-level officials decided not to...
