If I Were the Devil If I were the Prince of Darkness I would want to engulf the whole earth in darkness. I'd have a third of its real estate and four-fifths of its population, but I would not be happy until I had seized the ripest apple on the tree. So I should set about however necessary, to take over the United States. I would begin with a campaign of whispers. With the wisdom of a serpent, I would whispers to you as I whispered to Eve, "Do as you please." To the young I would whisper "The Bible...
  • If I Were the Devil

If I were the devil…If I were the Prince of Darkness, I’d want to engulf the whole world in darkness, and I would know in the darkest recesses of my blackened heart that I have succeeded. I’ve subverted the churches, first with a campaign of whispers, then with an outright assault, using the crimes of a few to impugn the many, until I had convinced the masses that religion was corrupt, that its teachings were outdated, that its message was one of hatred and bigotry. With the wisdom of a serpent, I whispered to you as I whispered to Eve:...

Happy Birthday America! And I wish to offer my deep, deep thanks to our founding fathers for giving us the gift of liberty. And I see the Egyptians have decided to celebrate along with us this year. Unfortunately, Egypt demonstrates what happens if your Declaration of Independence was not such a finely-crafted, well thought out articulation of political philosophy: you end up with a constitution that’s not as keen on liberty as ours. In that event, the next thing you know, you’re being governed by another tyrannical dictator. I’m not saying that what’s happening in Egypt could never happen here:...

God Made a Farmer Ram Trucks Super Bowl Commercial with Paul HarveyChrysler’s Super Bowl Ram Truck commercial praising the American farmer was an unexpected big hit and is still being replayed around the country on talk radio. Rich Lowry and Peggy Noonan both contrasted the authenticity of that commercial fantasy with the falsity of the real event. And why not? Even if the clip was a bit corny and overdone, the late Paul Harvey was a masterful throaty narrator in the romantic age before the onset of America’s now ubiquitous metrosexual nasal intonation. Harvey just didn’t sound different from the...

An iconic radio voice took the cake, as Dodge Ram’s “So God Made a Farmer” spot with Paul Harvey as the voice over was the highest-rated commercial during Super Bowl XLVII according to ADBOWL, the original advertising ranking website for consumers developed in 2002 by McKee Wallwork & Company. It wasn’t flashy or filled with special effects, but Dodge Ram’s Super Bowl spot featuring the late radio broadcaster Paul Harvey’s tribute to U.S. farmers won the hearts and minds of viewers Sunday night. The two-minute spot featured a series of stark photos of farmers at work. Along with a montage...

Not too long ago, I asked the question: How many warnings of the revolution have you missed? It's not a coincidence that Harvey said these things during the last(thankfully failed) attempt to steal our liberty - the 60's. I would whisper to you as I whispered to Eve: “Do as you please.” “Do as you please.” To the young, I would whisper, “The Bible is a myth.” I would convince them that man created God instead of the other way around. I would confide that what is bad is good, and what is good is “square”. In the ears of...

For the better part of six decades, Paul Harvey spun tales on the radio in his staccato baritone, entertaining up to 24 million listeners a day with folksy vignettes ending in unexpected twists. And now, the rest of the story. Previously confidential files show that Harvey, who died last February at 90, enjoyed a 20-year friendship with FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover, often submitting advance copies of his radio script for comment and approval. Harvey wrote Hoover and his deputies regularly. Hoover, in turn, helped Harvey with research, suggested changes in scripts and showered the broadcaster with effusive praise. But...

Paul Harvey’s death Saturday did not garner major headlines or sustained attention. Matt Drudge had the related story link off his page within about 12 hours of when the news broke. At one level, it’s not at all surprising. The man was 90. Though he soldiered on, he was past his peak. His vocal cord problems in 2001 and his bout with pneumonia in 2008 had America mentally prepared for the inevitable. But those who are unfamiliar with Paul Harvey need to learn about more than his tremendous career success. They need to understand and recognize his significance. Coming within...

I don't know about the rest of the nation, but here in Central time we could get Paul Harvey's News and Comment in the morning and again at noon, most likely on some crackly AM country music station. If I were out of town or on the road, I would surf the AM dial hoping to find a hint of that unmistakable voice: The Voice. Like a true news junkie, I needed my Paul Harvey fix. One of the great voices of authentic heartland America fell silent today. Paul Harvey was doing nationwide conservative talk radio for decades before anyone thought of it as conservative talk radio. Everybody recognizes his distinctive, quirky voice with the…….odd pauses and offbeat emphases, but his success was about far more than his distinctive diction. Paul Harvey put news out there that no other outlet touched. His Paul Harvey News and Comment scoured the wires for random stuff–and ideologically inconvenient stuff– you just didn’t hear on the Big Three mainstream TV news, and crammed it all in to crisp five minute...

Paul Harvey is gone. Harvey was a giant in the industry of radio broadcasting but he was a singularly different sort of news reporter. In a day when the goal of every other broadcaster seems to be to dive straight to the lowest common denominator, to celebrate to low born and venal, Harvey’s was always to uplift the listener and to celebrate the greatness of America. With his easily parodied style, his was a distinctive voice. He was from a time when the sound was important, the delivery the thing. And deliver he did. His well used pause and distinctive...

I have been touting Fred Thompson since January 2007, and it has been several months since I have written an article about him. Among other things, I have noted that Thompson antagonizes no one and would unite the Republican Party – no one really had anything bad to say about him in the New Hampshire debates, and the closest anyone came was John McCain, a close friend of Thompson. I have noted that Fred got the gay marriage issue precisely right – a constitutional amendment which does not require states to give full faith and credit to gay marriages is...

Did anyone hear the end of Paul Harvey's radio show today? He quoted Winston Churchill who said, after the bombing of Pearl Harbor that Amercans "did not get where they were by being made of sugar candy". He tied that in with what happened on 9/11, and said "I've been choking on this one for weeks, and I'd like to get it out".

Coming to work today, I was listening to Paul Harvey when I heard him say; "Conservatives compete; Liberals cooperate." Now I trust Paul Harvey, so I think he was using a quote, or being sarcastic, but as I tried to consider what that meant, I just became more and more confused. Conservatives compete, Liberals cooperate...... Man, that seems so wrong on so many levels.

Anyone else notice the 15 seconds or so of dead air that occured during Paul Harvey's show today? I was listening to it on the way home for lunch. Paul let out a strange sigh right during the middle of a general steel commercial. Then, nothing for about 15 seconds. I stopped the car and my heart raced. I was terrified that he suffered a stroke or something during his broadcast. Then he came back on the air, mentioning something about starting all over again. Then he made a comment about having a story in his hands that he just...

Paul Harvey Tells It Like It Is Ouch, Paul Harvey commentary (I decided to transcribe it. These are Paul Harvey's exact words, not mine, but I agree wholeheartedly) Politics Advantage Out They can say I have a plan, and yet never define it. Incumbent politicians doing the best they can have exposed their own limitations, but the politicians on the outside wanting in can claim I have a plan for winning in Iraq . They never have to name it. I have a plan for saving social security. I have a plan for full employment. I have a plan for...

If I were the devil by Paul Harvey © 1999 WorldNetDaily.com I would gain control of the most powerful nation in the world; I would delude their minds into thinking that they had come from man's effort, instead of God's blessings; I would promote an attitude of loving things and using people, instead of the other way around; I would dupe entire states into relying on gambling for their state revenue; I would convince people that character is not an issue when it comes to leadership; I would make it legal to take the life of unborn babies; I would...

CAIRO, 6 July 2004 — Islamophobia is alive and well in the US, starting with the authorities down to individuals such as radio talk show host Jay Severin who, according to the Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) claimed that Muslims want to take over America even if it takes centuries, adding “I’ve got an idea. Let’s all kill Muslims”. Amazingly Severin is still in his job, although he has been forced to apologize on air. CAIR has also filed complaints over an offensive skit on the March 10 Bill Handel show on KFI AM 640 entitled “the New Iraqi...
  • VOTING PATTERNS

I got a question for all of you learned Freepers. I just listened to a Paul Harvey segment where he told of a 70+ year old guy who decided to be a bank robber. Went to the bank, pulled a rag over his face with no eyeholes, proceeded to bump into people, left in disgust, and the police pulled him over later. That was the Readers Digest version. Question - what are the voting patterns of criminals and would be criminals? Does anyone know of any research of those in prison and what political party they associate with or relate...
