An unarmed man who was shot and killed by an Arizona police officer in January cried, complied with police orders and begged for his life before the fatal firing, according to a newly released police report. Mesa Police Officer Philip Brailsford has been charged with second-degree murder for the death of Daniel Shaver, a 26-year-old Texas man. Authorities have declined to release Brailsford’s body cam footage from the deadly encounter. But a report released on Tuesday includes extensive description of the footage, detailing Shaver’s desperate final moments before Brailsford fired five shots at him with an AR-15 rifle.

Carol Newby's search for bags of wood pellets to fuel the family pellet stove took her on a tour of Southern New Hampshire last week, with little success. "We usually get them at the local Agway," she said, "but they were in short supply and what they had was committed to customers who'd made pre-buys." She was able to get a few bags at the Lowe's in Epping, but when she went back, they were out. After coming up empty at tractor supply stores in Epping and Hooksett, she tried a nearby Home Depot, which also had no pellets to...

Like thousands of others in Hampton Roads, Khalid Caraballo plays with airsoft guns. Caraballo and his friend Aidan were suspended because they shot two other friends who were with them while playing with the guns as they waited for the school bus. The two seventh graders say they never went to the bus stop;...

JOLIET, Ill.- An Illinois roofers' union parked its inflatable rat outside of a Joliet church to protest the facility using non-union workers to do roof work. The Rev. Matthew Robinson of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Joliet said members of the Local 11 roofers' union have been picketing in front of the church and placed a giant inflatable rat -- nicknamed Scabby -- in front of the facility, the Joliet Herald-News reported Friday. "It's just ugly, and all people are seeing right now is a big yellow rat in front of our church," Robinson said. "Golly, we don't need that. That's...

There is of course no ONE way and no ONE solution to using less energy. I invite you to send me your stories about what you are doing. Here is Tom’s. What is new here is Tom’s choice of a Pellet Boiler. Something like this will be used as an experiment in the French School on PEI. So keeping up with Tom is a good foretaste of how our schools might be heated. It’s also not a system seen here on PEI yet for residential and it will be great to follow Tom and Gail over the winter and see...

He said a nearby shooting range will be closed as the birds were found to have died from lead poisoning caused by swallowing shotgun pellets fired into the lake. “An operation has started to try to remove the flamingos from the dangerous...
