MDF: The New Golf Disease. The terminology is new to fans and players alike. And judging by all the noise coming from Hawaii, it is not very popular. If you happened to come across the designation "MDF" well down the list of names through 36 holes of the Sony Open over the weekend, don't feel bad for not knowing what it meant. Many of the PGA Tour players affected didn't, either. The letters stand for "made [cut] didn't finish" and it altered the weekend plans of 18 players in the Sony field who were given credit for making the 36-hole...

Should Tiger be included on the Ryder Cup Team? Is he a former PGA phenom? Without question. Did he have an exceptional 2010 season? No, he had a decidedly lackluster 2010 season. Was he the first African-American golfer to achieve superstar status and retain it over several seasons? Aha! I think that could be the key! When we put together an Olympic hockey or soccer team, we don’t select a player who is the first Croatian-American who plays a mediocre hockey or soccer game, and who happens to be grappling with some emotional problems. No, we go for the guys...

It's open season on Tiger Woods. As the disgraced golfer took to the links Tuesday at the U.S. Open, one of his mistresses claimed she has been caddying around his love child for nine years. Apparently Tiger Woods has an alibi for his serial infidelities. Michael Jordan made him do it! At least that's what his former adviser is told Vanity Fair in a 14-page expose on Woods' women. "I told him, 'Stay away from that son of a bitch [Jordan], because he doesn't have anything to offer to the f- - -ing world in which he lives except playing basketball, which he did yesterday,' " lawyer John Merchant said. Woods did not listen, and one of the most unbelievable cheating scandals in recent memories followed. Vanity Fair talked to (and took pictures of) several...

I have to admit while watching Tiger Woods' highly anticipated mea culpa last Friday, I quickly lost interest. It was evident Woods was reading from a script and his apology lacked sincerity. In fact, I wish Tiger had my number because I could have written a more believable speech for a fraction of the cost he must have paid some high priced pr firm who didn't really get the job done. The operative question is: What was Woods apologizing for? The answer to this question is simple. Woods couldn't come back to the PGA without some kind of admission of...

MARANA, Ariz. – Tiger Woods isn’t playing the WGC-Accenture Match Play, a tournament he has won three times, but his presence is being felt here. Like a dark cloud in Arizona sunlight. In mid-December, Accenture dropped Woods as a commercial spokesman. Wednesday, the Woods camp dropped this little diversionary bombshell on the first day of Accenture’s PGA Tour event: Woods will be seen and heard Friday for the first time since his sex scandal began unfolding at Thanksgiving and led to his indefinite leave from golf. Woods will appear in an ultra-controlled setting, in line with his modus operandi of...

When Tiger Woods sits down in Florida Friday with "friends, colleagues and close associates," he won't really be there to make amends, as his agent suggested Wednesday. Woods will be coming back to launch a new, 2010 version of Tiger Woods, the same as if he were launching this year's version of his video game. Woods doesn't want to take questions, so he won't, because he's still Tiger Woods. But all husbands caught cheating - just once - probably wish they could find this soft a place to land. The agent, an overbearing and wildly overrated huckster named Mark Steinberg,...

Tiger Woods could be out of sex rehab and back on the links in two weeks, an Australian newspaper reported Wednesday. The top spokesman for the PGA Tour would not confirm the Herald Sun story. "We have no comment," Ty Votaw said. Still, if true, this would mark the first time Woods competed in a golf tournament since the sex scandal that ruined his good-guy reputation exploded...

Tiger Woods has been voted Athlete of the Decade by members of The Associated Press, his 10 years of incomparable golf outweighing nearly three weeks of a salacious sex scandal. Just like so many of his 64 victories worldwide and 12 majors dating to 2000, it wasn't much of a contest. Woods received 56 of the 142 votes cast by AP member editors. More than half of the ballots were returned after his Nov. 27 car accident which set off the sensational tales of infidelity that have tarnished Woods' image. Lance Armstrong, a cancer survivor who won the Tour de...

Dec 10, 2009 Fellow PGA Pros Speak Out On Tiger Woods: 'A Phony And A Fake' Jay Busbee This is how bad it's getting for Tiger Woods: even his fellow pros are now starting to speak out against him. First it was Jesper Parnevik expressing his frustration and disappointment, saying he "probably thought [Woods] was a better guy than he is." But Parnevik's outrage is understandable, given that he was the one who initially introduced Elin Nordegren to Tiger Woods. Now, however, two players with no apparent direct connection to the scandal are taking their shots at Tiger. Ben Crane,...

A Los Angeles press conference with Tiger Woods’ alleged mistress Rachel Uchitel has been called off. Uchitel, 34, was scheduled to appear with her attorney, Gloria Allred, at 11:30 a.m. Pacific Standard Time. Uchitel, a New York City nightclub hostess, has publicly denied an affair with Woods. However, TMZ.com...

We ca never allow it to be only what it is. Tiger Woods is the greatest golfer in the history of the game. We can’t stop there. No, he’s also the world’s greatest human. And to suggest anything less means you’re the one with the problem. Hmmm, perhaps you even have a problem with the color of Tiger’s skin. Team Tiger, you may recall, dropped that hint, early. So if you know what’s good for you, stick with the story, especially you TV guys: Greatest golfer, greatest human. Got it? Now don’t forget it. But the world’s greatest golfer has...

Golf's prodigal son is attempting an overseas salvage operation. While most fans were focused on Tiger Woods, Henrik Stenson and the Stadium Course at Sawgrass last weekend, the game's once-favorite sideshow pitched up in Italy and nearly trumped the PGA Tour's marquee event. Closing with a 66 in Turin, John Daly finished tied for second at the BMW Italian Open, notching his first top-10 in any event since Woods clipped him in a playoff at the 2005 WGC-American Express Championship. John Daly has been suspended for six months by the PGA Tour for conduct that brought unwelcome publicity, including a night in a North Carolina jail to sober up. “Is it fair that I got suspended? It’s not fair in reality, but it’s probably fair in perception,” he told The Associated Press on Wednesday. This is the second time the tour has suspended the two-time major champion, along with at least two other times he agreed to take time off to get his life in order. The 42-year-old Daly called this the lowest point in his wild 18-year career.

When you hear the words "Hooters," "John Daly" and "extremely intoxicated" in the same sentence, you know where this story is going. In the latest chapter of Daly's longtime struggle with alcohol abuse, he was held overnight in a North Carolina jail after passing out at a Hooters restaurant... According to police, Daly "appeared extremely intoxicated and uncooperative." Daly again refused to go to the hospital and was eventually asked to leave by Hooters employees... Because Daly had no transportation, police said they held him in custody at a local jail until he sobered up.
