Information Desired about These Photos, Is The Story True?

The great White Hunter has a question he needs answered. His father sent him these pictures and told him that the owner of the dog came home to find that a fawn was laying on his couch next to his dog. They figure that the fawn followed the dog into the house through the doggy door and just made himself at home by getting up on the couch to take a nap with the dog. The Great White Hunter wants to know if the story related to him by his father is true. If it is true, then he would...

Alexander McQueen S/S 2010: Raquel Zimmermann by Nick Knight (Snakes & Supermodel)

Snakes alive! Photographer Nick Knight whips up a real herpetology-inspired visual treat for the provocatively-envisioned Alexander McQueen S/S 2010 ad campaign, featuring a snakeskin-camouflaged Raquel Zimmermann under a heap of slithering serpents. By the looks of them, they seem to be boa constrictors with a reticulated python or two tossed in for good measure. Whatever the case, the Brazilian supermodel is a good sport, as many women would run away screaming from the deluge of icky reptiles. (Image at original site may be to scary for Freeper Women, thus could not post it.)

Amazing Original Photographs from the Civil War

Whether you like history or not... These are pretty amazing considering they were taken up to 145 years ago: A compendium of photos from the Civil War era. Truly fortunate that so many of these have survived. Probably a million wet plate photos were made during the civil war on glass plate. Popular during the war, they lost their appeal afterwards and so many were sold for the glass.

November 20, 2009 Public faces of Richard Dawkins' Atheism Campaign Were ... Devout Christian Children [Pics in URL] Exclusive: Ruth Gledhill, Religion Correspondent The two children chosen to front Richard Dawkins’ latest assault on God could not look more free of the misery with which he associates religious baggage. With the slogan “Please don’t label me.
Levi Johnston Playgirl photos released; Alaska boy gets a bodyguard (Gays aghast)

It wasn't too long ago that Levi Johnston was pretty much like any other Alaskan teenager. With the exception of dating the then-governor's daughter he was, dare we say, a no body. But in less than two years he's fathered a son, broken up with the 2008 Republican Vice Presidential canidate's teenage daughter, fought a rather public custody fight with Sarah Palin's family, and now landed squarely on the pages of Playgirl. We should also point out: added a bodyguard (as seen in this picture from today at the Us Weekly Hot Hollywood Party.) The fruit of his labor will...

Photographer & Newsweek Violated Contract Using Sarah Palin Photo

The photographer who shot the picture violated his contract by reselling them to Newsweek. That photographer, Brian Adams, could not immediately be reached, and his agent, Kelly Price, declined to comment, saying, "I keep all of my clients' business private." But a spokeswoman for Runner's World confirms that Adams's contract contained a clause stipulating that his photos of Palin would be under embargo for a period of one year following publication -- meaning until August 2010. "Runner's World did not provide Newsweek with its cover image," the spokeswoman said. "It was provided to Newsweek by the photographer's stock agency, without...

Yes, it’s true! I am a news junkie, the need to look at the news and discuss politics is an intrinsic part of my mental makeup. Just like one needs the morning cuppa Java I need to look at, think and talk about the news. Having said that, however, I do have a few other very strong interests and, in any case, one has to take a break every once in a while, otherwise the ugly political realities can make you crack up!
Music industry bows to point-and-shoot cameras

At last month's huge U2 show at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., how could you tell the difference between the professional photographers and your average amateurs? Answer: the professionals were the ones whisked away after Bono and friends finished their third song, and the amateurs were still there, happily shooting to their heart's content. Nearly every person at any show these days is going to have some form of camera with them, be it a point-and-shoot, an iPhone or some other camera phone, and it seems that there is almost no way to imagine keeping all those devices out....

The British Library formally opened it’s landmark photography exhibition Points of View last night at a well-attended private view. The exhibition marks the librarys first ever photographic exhibition. It opens to the public free. At a risk of running out of superlatives Points of View is quite simply the best exhibition that the library has ever put on. It is a large show, but never feels unapproachable. It is well designed and laid out and presents a wealth of the library’s treasures...
Geology Picture of the Week, Oct. 11-17, 2009: Vernal Falls, Color vs. Black-and-White

The late inspiration for this was a book I saw in the bookstore, "Ansel Adams in Color", linked above. Very good photography (as you might expect), but not as iconic like his black-and-white images. So for fun I'm posting a picture of Vernal Falls from Adams in black-and-white and another one from nearly the same vantage in color. Which do you like better? That doesn't mean that color or B&W is really better, it's just an artistic perception. Also included are a couple of aerial shots.
'Frankencamera': A Giant Leap For Digital Photos?

It's big. It's ugly. And it's made from recycled parts, at least for now. It's called the "Frankencamera" — and it might someday change the way you take pictures.Computer scientists at Stanford University say the new camera works something like an iPhone: It can be altered in nearly infinite ways, depending on the applications downloaded to it.Even the best digital camera on the market today has lots of limitations, the professor behind the prototype, Marc Levoy, tells NPR's Guy Raz.Say you want to take a photo of your child playing with a new toy in a dark room, near a...

Photographer Irving Penn dead at 92

American photographer Irving Penn, best known for his work in the fashion world, has died in his New York City apartment at the age of 92. The news was reported this afternoon by his brother, the director Arthur Penn. Hailed as a father of fashion photography, and one of the most respected photographers of the last century... Working with precise composition and unfettered settings, Penn pioneered several techniques, and his early portraiture work was unique for putting his celebrity subjects against plain white or grey backgrounds... or by placing them in a corner to achieve dramatic effect. While primarily using...

In Megan for September’s Wonderland, lensman Mariano Vivanco adroitly pastiches a wonderful dance of earthly elements, cool, beautiful, and possessive along with the more lovely than life, hot, fiery Romani-esque sensuality of Megan Fox. Together, they make for a ying/yang wonderland of striking symbolism.

The callow kid kicking back on a couch in a living room near L.A.'s Occidental College, where he and Jack were students, may not have been the image the Obama campaign wanted to project. "I'm sure Hillary would have paid...
