It has been one year since Obamacare was signed into law. This is the same law about which then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said, “We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it.” It is the same law that Pelosi and her Democratic colleagues jammed through Congress. The same unpopular law that led to Democrats losing control of the House. After a year of learning what is in the law — and seeing its effect on families, small businesses and our economy — it is now clear that Obamacare is a failed experiment. Sadly,...

Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry is a so-called double dipper, collecting a state government pension and salary totaling more than $240,000. Perry’s disclosure that he “retired” this year while still governor of Texas has become somewhat of an issue in the days leading up to the GOP presidential caucuses in Iowa on Tuesday. Given New Mexico’s distaste for double dipping by public employees, I thought you might want to know more. We banned the practice for most state and local government workers in 2010. Perry, 61, filed a financial disclosure this month with the Federal Election Commission showing he is...

Prior to the “Republican Revolution” of 1994, Rep. Newt Gingrich of Georgia had earned an A rating with Gun Owners of America. But that all changed in 1995, after Republicans were swept to power and Gingrich became Speaker of the House. The Republicans gained the majority, thanks in large part to gun owners outraged by the Clinton gun ban. And upon taking the reins of the House, Speaker Gingrich said famously that, “As long as I am Speaker of this House, no gun control legislation is going to move in committee or on the floor of this House and there...

Denmark Newspaper Announces New Comic Strip: Derflügen Jihad Satire by Writer33 Copenhagen…..—Under a firestorm of controversy, the Danish newspaper, Jyllands-Posten, plans to step on the neck of Islamic fascists, and draw a new battle line by announcing their new comic strip. The new strip—which is to debut April 1, 2006—is titled, Derflügen Jihad. The trouble all began with the publishing of cartoons, satirizing the Prophet Mohammad. This evoked wrath from radical Islamic clerics, bursts of rage in protests, as thousands gathered to do what they do best: burn things. In this religion of peace, clerics placed a bounty on...

AP poll shows independents not sold on Obama“Elvis is still alive” polls higher than independents’ faith in Obama's direction WASHINGTON -- America’s third largest party points to polling released April 22 by the Associated Press showing only 17 percent of self-described political independents think America is “heading in the right direction” under Barack Obama as a sign the president’s agenda of higher taxes, higher spending, higher debt and nationalizing industry isn’t winning over sensible voters. “The percentage of Americans who believe Elvis is or might still be alive is higher than that of political independents who think Obama has America...

Onyx's husband fell thru a glass door and severed an artery in his arm this morning. He almost bled to death while waiting for 911 to come, but they made it. They've been at the hospital since noon, with him in and out of surgery. They are back in surgery now, with 3 surgeons trying to repair a lot of torn and severed veins and archeries. He's lost a lot of blood, they've given him 6 pints so far. It's very complicated, but those are the basics.

No, itÂ’s not SpidermanÂ’s latest web slinging tool but something thatÂ’s more real world. Like the World Wide Web.The Invisible Web refers to the part of the WWW thatÂ’s not indexed by the search engines. Most of us think that that search powerhouses like Google and Bing are like the Great OracleÂ…they see everything. Unfortunately, they canÂ’t because they arenÂ’t divine at all; they are just web spiders who index pages by following one hyperlink after the other. But there are some places where a spider cannot enter. Take library databases which need a password for access. Or even pages that...

A few curious facts for the new to Elvis: Elvis Aaron Presley was born January 8, 1935 in a little house in Tupelo, Mississippi. He had a stillborn brother Jesse Garon Presley. There was no doctor yet present during the birth and Elvis' parents put him in a shoebox in the oven to keep him warm. His real hair color as an adult was dark blond. His eyes were extremely blue.He was shockingly different for the 50's and stunningly talented: Heartbreak Hotel Elvis was one of the most beautiful (I would argue THE most beautiful person) ever photographed. Men and...

Mars Lander Team Prepares for "Seven Minutes of Terror"Victoria Jaggard National Geographic NewsMay 13, 2008 After years of planning followed by a ten-month journey, the Mars Phoenix Lander is slated to touch down on the red planet's north pole on May 25. If successful, the probe will be the first lander to reach a Martian pole and the first to actually touch the planet's water ice. What's more, it could settle the debate over whether Mars was once a habitable world. Now, as Phoenix closes in on the last 12 million miles (19 million kilometers) of its journey, NASA scientists...

He and his wife, Lori, were returning from a safari in Uganda when they boarded the NWA flight on Friday. Kurt HaskellLori and...

SADDAM HUSSEIN CAPTURED Former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has been captured in his home town of Tikrit, according to reports. There has been no independent verification of the news but Sky New's Foreign Editor Tim Marshall says the source of the news is usually reliable. The US Defence Department says it has had no confirmation of the claims, which come from Iraqi Kurd leader Jalal Talabani, says the Iran news agency IRNA. Hundreds of exultant people have taken to the streets of Kirkuk, firing weapons into the air in celebration. A press conference has been announced for 12pm GMT. In...

Put up or shut up By Tony SnowJan 5, 2006 Add "domestic spying" to the long list of botched attempts to unseat George W. Bush. The New York Times' would-be bombshell alleging Nixonian snoopery has detonated in its builders' faces. The story not only hasn't shaken Washington, it has restored the president's standing by reinforcing popular suspicions that he, unlike leading Democrats, takes seriously (a) terrorists' intentions and (b) the necessity of winning the war. The seriousness gap is important. While the president attempts to press the case for continued engagement, key Democrats respond with hollow grade-school cant. Not even...

David Copperfield says he's found Fountain of Youth By Jane Sutton Tue Aug 15 The man who made the Statue of Liberty appear to vanish may soon claim to do the same for unsightly bags and wrinkles. Master illusionist David Copperfield says he has found the "Fountain of Youth" in the southern Bahamas, amid a cluster of four tiny islands he recently bought for $50 million (26.4 million pounds). One of his islands in the Exuma chain, Musha Cay, is a private resort that rents for up to $300,000 a week and the other islands serve as buffers to keep...

The paintings were Tustian’s “God Bless America” Santa and “Let Freedom Ring” Santa. “’Let Freedom Ring’ is a beautiful painting that celebrates the spirit of America, our freedoms and the blessing of our great country,” said Mike Kindrick at the unveiling of the paintings. “’God Bless America’ inspires pride and honor in all...

Presley died of heart disease and prescription drug abuse at his Graceland mansion on Aug. 16th, 1977. The singer's fans traditionally file past his grave site at Graceland on the eve of the anniversary. A spokesman says as many as 10,000 fans could visit the mansion for this year's vigil. John Kerry's notorious "stuck in Iraq" statement, echoed by actor Matt Damon, suggesting that the United States military is a last resort for those without the education or finances to pursue other options, has been roundly refuted by Deputy Under Secretary of Defense Bill Carr. Among other areas, Carr has responsibility for recruiting and retenton. Secretary Carr appeared on yesterday's edition of my "rightANGLE" TV show. In addition to commenting on a wide range of recruitment-related topics, Sec. Carr had this to say about the Kerry-Damon remarks: "Two-thirds of those entering the military are drawn from the top half, so...

Former Democratic Party chairman Paul G. Kirk Jr. has taken over for the late Edward Kennedy in the Senate. Vice President Joe Biden swore in Kirk on Friday hours after a Massachusetts judge rejected a Republican request to delay it. The GOP had argued that Democratic Gov. Deval Patrick exceeded his constitutional authority by appointing Kirk before a traditional 90-day legislative waiting period had expired. State lawmakers passed a bill this week giving Patrick the power to choose an interim senator. Kirk gives Senate Democrats a filibuster-proof, 60-vote majority with the health care fight at a critical point.

Rare Artwork by Mount Rushmore Creator For years, it sat as a paperweight in the home of Jeane Funkhouser. In fact, her daughter, Charlene Mitchell, remembers having to dust under it the entire time she was growing up. It turns out she was dusting under what may be worth millions of dollars. For several decades, the Victoria family has been in possession of an extremely rare Steuben Glass George Washington head created by artist Gutzon Borglum, the man behind the Mount Rushmore sculpture. Funkhouser, also an artist, was given the model as a gift from Borglum's son, Lincoln Borglum, in...

In the early days and weeks after September 11, 2001, a small cadre of men (and a few women) with vast amounts of intelligence experience reported to the Langley, Virginia headquarters of the CIA. These unsung heroes were then dispatched across the globe to run operations against the Al-Qaeda conspirators who leveled the World Trade Center and struck the nerve center of the US military. The FBI, a domestic law enforcement agency, did not have the ability or skills needed to track down and strike the attackers overseas. The Pentagon, with F22s, nuclear aircraft carriers, intercontinental ballistic missiles, and battalions...

Via Red State, proof positive that there are some Obama lies so shameless that even the left won’t spin them for him. This is Naked Emperor News’s second video on The One’s oh-so-shady backroom deal with the pharmaceutical lobby; the first one was entitled “Obama’s Mother of All Political Lies,” a description I don’t agree with but which Air America apparently does. Watching this, it’s not just the dishonesty of his campaign promises that galls, it’s the sanctimony he displayed in misleading his cultists to believe things would be drastically different under Hopenchange. The pandering during the Billy Tauzin clip...

When Democrats said we should pull out our troops from Iraq, Vice President Dick Cheney and others were quick to label them defeatists. When the administration floated the idea this week of bringing home a third of the troops by election time next year, it was presented as good old patriotism. As the church lady on “Saturday Night Live” used to say “How convenient!” The striking change of tone is all about politics, and perhaps that’s how it should be in a democracy.[snip] Public support for the war has collapsed. The administration wants to avoid an embarrassing debate over who...

The first of nearly 50 Peanuts television movies, A Charlie Brown Christmas is the longest-running cartoon special in history, airing every year since its debut in 1965. Whimsical, melancholy, and ultimately full of wonder, it is a holiday favorite for countless families. But this cartoon classic almost didn't make it on the air. A Movie No One Wanted In 1963 producer Lee Mendelson made a short documentary about Charles Schulz called A Boy Named Charlie Brown. It included a few minutes of animated Peanuts scenes by Bill Melendez, who had animated the kids for a series of Ford Motor...

David Bellavia, of Batavia, earned the Silver Star in Iraq and has been recommended for the Medal of Honor. As the debris continues to settle from the explosion detonated by the defeatist comments by Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., I wonder how he expected his statements to be perceived. As an infantryman whose boots are still caked with blood and dust from Iraq, I am beyond confused by the insistence by Democratic Reps. Nancy Pelosi and Louise Slaughter that he preserve his title as a combat visionary. As rancor and hyperbole peak, we continue to be fed bastardized statistics and a...

DETROIT -- General Motors Corp. appeared headed toward a record-short escape from bankruptcy protection Thursday despite a last-minute appeal that a legal expert said was unlikely to stand in the way.

Panetta orders internal probe of secret spy program after some members of Congress say CIA misled them. ### CIA Director Leon Panetta has ordered an internal inquiry into the agency's handling of a contentious and still highly classified intelligence program that has caused a heated dispute between the CIA and Democrats on the House intelligence committee. The move by Panetta appears to be an implicit acknowledgment by the agency that it should have disclosed information about the post-9/11 secret program to Congress much earlier than it did. *snip* CIA and congressional officials have refused to describe the nature of the...

Watching President Obama apologize last week for America's arrogance - before a French audience that owes its freedom to the sacrifices of Americans - helped convince me that he has a deep-seated antipathy toward American values and traditions. His nomination of former Yale Law School Dean Harold Koh to be the State Department's top lawyer constitutes further evidence of his disdain for American values. This seemingly obscure position in Foggy Bottom's bureaucratic maze is one of the most important in any administration, shaping foreign policy in the courts and playing a critical role in international negotiations and treaties. Let's set...
