WASHINGTON, Sept. 8, 2009 – Defense Department officials have launched “AFPS News,” a weekly audio podcast of stories from American Forces Press Service. “American Forces Press Service news and feature articles are a vital source of information to troops, their family members and the American public,” said Linda Kozaryn, director of eProducts for the Defense Media Activity. “The podcasts give AFPS another outlet for our stories, which traditionally have been available only in print and on the Web,” she said. “We are excited to reach a broadcast audience via this new media tool.” AFPS, formerly a feature-article service mailed to...

I currently have a subscription to XM satellite radio. They will soon be increasing the rates $2 per month because of a pass through of royalty rates. I am a grad student and as much as I love the radio, I am not sure I will be able to afford these new rates. One of my favorite things about the radio, however, is that I get to listen to America Right which gives me 24-7 conservative talk radio with a perfect signal and from some of my favorite names in the business (Beck, Hannity, Levin, Wilkow etc.). Any idea how...

WASHINGTON, May 20, 2009 – When Melissa Seligman’s husband left for his second deployment to Iraq, she knew all too well what was expected of her. Melissa Seligman is the host of the new ‘Her War’ podcast for military wives dealing with deployment issues. Seligman also is the author of "The Day After He Left for Iraq." WASHINGTON, Feb. 27, 2009 – The Pentagon Channel is giving troops a chance to get to know their favorite entertainers a little better with a new video podcast called “Command Performance.” The podcast consists of an interactive session with popular entertainers, using questions submitted online by military members and their families. “‘Command Performance’ is designed to reach more of our audience members and is one of the many products the Pentagon Channel produces to keep servicemembers and their families informed and entertained,” Brian Natwick, the channel’s general manager, said. The broad range of questions submitted and the entertainers’ answers...

I'm trying to get a broader understanding of this current global economic mess we are in. I have a two hour daily commute to work each day. Rather than listening to the radio I would prefer downloading interesting podcasts of FReeper recommended favorite business/economic related interviews and news and listening to them on my way to and from work. I've downloaded some recent interviews with various economists, and a few weekly internet business newscasts, but quite frankly I've had difficulty finding a variety of the type of business related podcasts I'm searching for. I would greatly appreciate it if you...

Well, at that moment I was playing President of the Imaginary States of America. That's one of the old Air Force One 707's, and it's mounted in spectacular fashion at the Reagan Library. When you take the tour they take a souvenir photo at the entrance. I did the standard arms-round-the-family one, then asked for another. The only photoshopping was to take out the hanger behind the plane and replace it with a night scene of Tuzla. I think that considering the amount of sniper fire I was taking, I look remarkably calm and collected. It's good to be the...

Before we begin, let me emphasize that I'm logged in and that my beeber already is set to stune lol. I understand that a single podcast can consist of a single episode, or of multiple episodes. In the former case, I would upload the single episode plus one RSS file that points to the episode, correct? Then I would tell the aggregator the location of the RSS file. When I'm finished, the aggregator points to the RSS file and the RSS file points to the single podcast file (?) What about the latter case, where a single podcast consists of...

Joining the likes of Cardinals Arinze and O'Malley, my bishop now has his own podcast. For those who haven't had the pleasure before, you owe it you yourself to listen to a homily or two. I've often thought that Bishop Jenky would make a fantastic spokesman for the US Bishops. It's not often one hears a priest who so emphatically expresses what a joy it is to be Catholic through the way he preaches his homilies, not just his words, but the enthusiasm in his voice. Note for those who have never seen Bishop Jenky: just picture St. Nicholas...

The charges that Mitt Romney is not a conservative because he wasn't always pro-life strike me as pithy. There's also a hint of hypocrisy in it.

September 20, 2006 · Scientists in Ethiopia have discovered the skeleton of a 3.3 million years old child, the oldest child fossil on record. The fossil is known as the Dikika child, after the region where it was found. Though not a human, the apelike creature could walk upright. The child is from the same species as the famous fossil Lucy, which was also discovered in Ethiopia over 30 years ago. It was probably female, and about three when it died. The child lay within a sandstone tomb for over 3 million years. Six years ago, an Ethiopian scientist saw...

Okay, I've procrastinated too long on this project so now I am presenting the FIRST DUmmie FUnnies AUDIO PODCAST. Yes, the DUmmie FUnnies will continue as before with the TEXT DUFU editions but we now take it to the next level with AUDIO DUFU editions. Apple has made changes to its podcast delivery service to enable restricted access to some iTunes podcasts, according to a new report by political radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh. After receiving requests to make his popular audio and video podcasts via iTunes, Limbaugh said that he has been working to Apple to achieve a solution to allow members of the (paid) Rush 24/7 service to access restricted content on iTunes: "There's no additional charge for the podcast service, but it's only available to members, and so having it downloadable via iTunes was not compatible with Apple's method of doing...

Dave Barry is one funny guy. His column, which has run in the Miami Herald for more than 20 years, has appeared in more than 500 newspapers. He's written more than 20 books, all of them big sellers. So when he came to town last Friday to promote his latest effort, "Dave Barry's Money Secrets -- Like: Why is There a Giant Eyeball on the Dollar?", and to speak at the Commonwealth Club, I made an appointment to chat with him at his downtown hotel. I figured I'd write down his clever quips, repeat them in a column and make...

THE iPod has notched up another marker of its phenomenal success, with podcast named 2005 word of the year by the New Oxford American Dictionary. The word will be added to the New Oxford's online edition next year, BBC reported. The term, a combination of the words "iPod" and "broadcast", was defined by the dictionary as "a digital recording of a radio broadcast or similar program, made available on the internet for downloading to a personal audio player". Podcasts can be played on any digital media player - not just Apple's iPod. But the term has sparked controversy, with some...

I confess to being an iPodd'er. And I further confess that this post is about podding. In my short time with my beloved white machine I have been unable to find many worthwhile conservative podcasts - certainly from here in Canada but even of the States where the conservative movement enjoys a long and vibrant history. Item #1 - does anyone here know of a really good podcast(s), from anywhere in the world but English-language, which serves the goal of better articulating conservative principles? Item #2 - does anyone feel that there is a need for some such presence in...

Podcasts are so last month. If you want to get in on the hip trip, you’ll turn your attention (and camcorder) to vodcasts—Video-On-Demand-casts, that is. No, this isn’t stuff of the future. By following the steps I’m about to outline you can create and distribute a downloadable vodcast today. The technology behind vodcasting is the same as the magic that makes up podcasting—RSS. By preparing your movies properly and creating the right feed, you can offer your audience video on demand through an application familiar to us all: iTunes 4.9, a version of iTunes that supports playback of local and...

President George W. Bush will announce his nomination to replace outgoing Supreme Court justice Sandra Day O'Connor at 9pm EDT tonight. Madison

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - As millions of pilgrims streamed into Rome this past week, Internet listeners accompanied a Dutch priest on an intimate audio tour to pay one last visit to Pope John Paul II before he was laid to rest. Father Roderick Vonhogen brought the Catholic Church's ancient rites to life through a cutting-edge format: the podcast, a radio-style show that is distributed over the Internet. Podcasts have caught on like wildfire since they first emerged nine months ago. Listeners can pick from roughly 10,000 shows on topics ranging from religion to wine to technology, and media companies and advertisers...

I run a website for the local Chamber of Commerce. It is not much of a site, but the members want a business directory for visitors to know where to eat, camp, sleep, etc. I use Frontpage 2003. Today the boss asked me about Pod-casting on the site. He would like it to be like a local radio station with news, traffic, advertising and entertainment, presumably from the local barbershop quartet. I asked my hosting service about this an I am the only one who has ever mentioned it, so they will have to get back to me. Does anyone...

I just added a "podcast," i.e. audio rss feed, to my blog. For my latest bit, I went to the local slot casino and interviewed gambling senior citizens about Social Security reform. You can subscribe here. Do any other Freeper have podcasts? Any plans to create an official Free Republic podcast? Or perhaps we could put one together. Time to put Hannity out of a job.
