A Dallas police officer was arrested Friday morning after she mistakenly entered the wrong unit in her apartment building downtown and fatally shot a 26-year-old man inside. The officer was fresh off a shift and still in full uniform Thursday night when she walked into what she believed to be her apartment at the South Side Flats, located about a block away from the Dallas Police Department Headquarters. She was confronted by a man, identified by the Medical examiner’s office as Botham Shem Jean.

Dallas police say one of their officers was going home after her shift when she walked into the wrong apartment and shot and killed the man inside. The officer was in full uniform just after 10 p.m. Thursday evening when she walked into an apartment unit she believed to be her own at the 1200 block of South Lamar, about a quarter-mile from the Dallas Police Department.

CHICAGO (AP) - U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions told an event for Chicago police that heeding the advice of those he dubbed "radicals" when it comes to police policy results in higher rates of violent crime. The Chicago Tribune reports Sessions addressed an annual Chicago Police Memorial Foundation vigil held at Soldier Field late Wednesday. It honors police who died on duty. Sessions said law enforcement should set policy on crime-fighting. He said "the last thing" anyone should do is, in his words, "follow the protestations of anti-police radicals and those who have never walked a beat."

An Ohio officer shot his police dog after it attacked him, leaving him with serious bite wounds, the Columbus Police Department said. Officer Brian Carter underwent surgery at a hospital and K9 Benzi, a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois, was humanely euthanized. Carter was correcting Benzi’s behavior through verbal commands at the department’s K9 office Saturday morning when the dog suddenly turned on him, a Columbus Police spokesperson said in a news release.

KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (WOWK) - A Charleston Police Officer has been accused of leaving his two young sons in a hot car in a parking lot. According to the criminal complaint, Daniel Goffreda, 32, of Poca, WV, has been charged with two counts of Child Neglect Creating Risk of Injury. A police officer in Baltimore has quit after footage surfaced of him repeatedly hitting a man. A second officer has been placed on administrative duties pending the outcome of an investigation.
