By now most have viewed at least one of the HHS anti-smoking commercials featuring victims of various cancers and other ailments caused - they say - by smoking and tobacco use. It's a cliche but still true: these are our tax dollars at work. Your government commissioned these ads and purchased the airtime with your cash. HHS Secretary Sebelius and her minions risk another sort of medical problem - namely, rotator cuff injuries from patting themselves on the back for foisting these grotesque, voyeuristic images on an unsuspecting, undeserving public. In 2008, Candidate Barack Obama promised that if elected he would address comprehensive immigration reform during his first year in office. Four years later, he has vowed to address reform at the beginning of his second term. But rather than admit this is just another campaign promise on which Mr. Obama failed to deliver, his re-election campaign's senior adviser blames a Republican "reign of terror." Appearing on CNN's State of the Union, David Axelrod claimed the president's failure was the result of a "monolithic opposition to everything the chief executive wants to do" and that "a lot of Republicans in...

If the dust up at the GOP meeting in Arizona is any indication, if one isn’t ready to pledge 100% loyalty to Mitt Romney, he’s not interested in seeing or hearing from you. It’s long been worried that Mitt would blow off the base of the party if elected, incidents like this do nothing to set these fears aside. Mitt Romney held a meeting in Scottsdale with top Republicans, hoping to convince the undecideds to throw their support behind him, as …. let’s face it …. his nomination is all but a fait accompli. he Romney campaign continues to leave many evangelical voters feeling a bit out of sorts. It seems more and more the Romney campaign calculus is that the campaign will get the evangelical vote without much effort. As Ben Domenech wrote in his excellent Transom last week: Now evangelicals shift from roughly half the pie in the primary to a quarter of it in the general (they were 24% of voters in 2008). They are making their peace with Romney, but the potential danger, as I’ve noted before, is that their lackluster feelings for him will result in lower evangelical turnout...

To be genuinely outraged about something, you need to actually believe in something. Without principles, outrage is just tactical anger, or bullying in plainer language. Principles, values and codes are universal. That is if you are angry about a dog being mistreated by riding on top of a car, then you should at least be equally angry at dogs being eaten. If a man shooting another man after a confrontation and not being charged for it angers you, then it should anger you regardless of the color of his skin. For that matter if racism or sexism offends you, then...

The problem with Iran’s enrichment facilities has become more acute in recent years. When the West refused to supply 20%-enriched uranium for the small Tehran Research Reactor, where the Iranians produce medical isotopes, Iranian nuclear experts went ahead in June 2010 and fed their 5%-enriched uranium into the centrifuges to produce 20%-enriched uranium, by themselves. With a stockpile of 20%-enriched uranium, the Iranians would cut by more than half the time they needed to take the next enrichment step to weapons-grade uranium.

The U.S. military has become expert at controlling urban populations in Iraq – but why is the Department of Homeland Security building similar capabilities here?Unfortunately, the federal government’s war on freedom is a subject still dominated mostly by conspiracy theorists, end-of-the-worlders, and yes, crackpots who hold highly marginal and dismissible views. Fortunately, some of that is changing with the rise of “smart preppers.” I think most people concerned about liberty would appreciate an honest, probative look at actual plans and initiatives that federal authorities are now developing in earnest. Statistics show a deep divide in opinions along racial lines regarding the killing of a black Florida teenager, Trayvon Martin, by George Zimmerman, who is of mixed ethnicity, white and Hispanic. Zimmerman has claimed self-defense, invoking the Sunshine State’s “Stand Your Ground” law which has also come under intense scrutiny in the wake of the incident. Reuters news service reported last week, 91% of blacks believe Martin was unjustly killed, while only 35% of whites concurred. Hispanics were in between at 59% according to polling numbers Reuters gathered by querying nearly 2,000 Americans. The disparity of views over Martin’s death...

Now, though, he has three plus years as president under his belt. He has the executive experience he lacked in 2008. And incumbents are generally reelected. If he gets bounced by someone who has no presidential experience wouldn’t that be even more racist?” Matthews further suggested that “to judge him...

George Zimmerman apologized to the family of Trayvon Martin in court a few days ago. The killing of a young African American male by a white male has raised not only questions about the “Stand Your Ground” laws in Florida, but also questions about race relations nationally. What Zimmerman felt in his heart is anyone’s guess; the apology seemed heartfelt. Unfortunately, to many, it already rings hollow. At issue here isn’t whether or not Zimmerman is really guilty or innocent, whether he had malicious intent or was defending himself against what he perceived as imminent danger to his own life....

  • Has Our Government Failed Us?

Our Founding Father's established the most remarkable system of government the world has ever seen. Not only did they defy a tyrant in order to achieve their vision but also defeated the British twice in order to secure our way of life. It is no doubt that the Founders were impressive visionaries but how far has our government drifted from the Founder's original intent? One of the duties of government is to collect taxes (and we know they exercise their right to tax) but in the Constitution it states “The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties,...

www.FinancialSurvivalNetwork.com presents The uber Nannies believe that your freedom is what makes the world such a messed up place. If only you could be controlled just a bit more, things would be so much better. Whether it's smoking in New York City, donating "unhealthy" food to the poor, closing nightclubs and dance halls in Weston Florida, banning lead in hunting ammo, or banning feeding and hunting of deer, freedom is lingering in the horizon. Please don't take anything for granted. Will Da Boyz be coming for your guns? Your gold? How about your IRA or 401k? Don't be surprised, these...

Maybe it's time for MSNBC's Chris Matthews to retire. On Friday's Hardball, the 66-year-old host actually said that people's view of the Trayvon Martin-George Zimmerman case is impacted by "so much history ever since the first slave arrived in the United States" (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary): (VIDEO AT LINK) In the middle of a lengthy opening segment about the case gripping the nation, Matthews played a clip of Florida prosecutor Bernie De La Rionda telling a press conference, “You haven’t heard all the evidence. Please be patient and wait for the trial.” After the clip, Matthews said,...

In an unusual move, George Zimmerman took the witness stand Friday to apologize to the parents of Trayvon Martin for fatally shooting their 17-year-old son. Assistant prosecutor Bernardo de la Rionda took the opportunity to grill the neighborhood watch volunteer about some of the statements he made to police. Here's a partial transcript of Zimmerman's testimony: Zimmerman: I wanted to say I am very sorry for the loss of your son. I did not know how old he was. I thought he was a little bit younger than I am, and I did not know if he was armed or...

For those of you who did not get or see the memo from Vince Haley, Mitt still has some major problems. Here is the Haley Memo, in relevant part: [H]ere is the crucial news about why --- with 17 states to go -- the Romney forces are worried, worried that the frontrunner's weakness is surfacing again in the Republican primaries. Here are two crucial news items causing Romneyites to worry. -- Despite much pressure from Romney forces, Colorado Republicans last weekend at their Denver convention surprised political observers by electing - and by a large margin -- more uncommitted than...

http://financialsurvivalnetwork.com/ presents Jeff Berwick of the erstwhile www.DollarVigilante.com has written a report entitled, Getting Your Gold out of Dodge. Jeff believes that as governments get more desperate and continue to run out of money, they will resort to outright confiscation of their citizen's wealth and assets. This has already occurred in places like Argentina and Ireland and in many other countries. We saw this trend in Argentina, when the government nationalized YPF, an oil company partly owned by Spanish concerns. If governments will steal each other's property, who can rightly believe they won't go after their citizens' property? Therefore, Jeff...
