GOP-Leaning Majority Seen Fading in U.S.

There has been much chatter about who now speaks for the Republican Party and whether the GOP has a message or agenda to combat President Obama's popularity. Those questions are important to the party's future, but the most serious problem remains the deeper demographic and political forces at work in the country. For the past few months, political analysts and demographers have been poring over the results of the 2008 election and comparing them with presidential results from the last two decades. From whatever angle of their approach -- age, race, economic status, geography -- they have come to a...

2009 RNC Census: Your a Liberal If you Don't Give! Yea, Thanks Steele!

The Republican National Committee Chairman, Michael Steele, sent me a 2009 Republican Party Census Document in the mail which he claims was designed "just for me". After you read through all the talking points of his four page letter in which he tries to convince you that the RNC is "really trying" to turn the party around, he leaves you with a survey. At the end of the survey there are three options to choose from requesting your donation. The third option states the following: "No, I favor electing liberal Democrats over the next ten years". So, let me see...

Just 53% Say Capitalism Better Than Socialism

Only 53% of American adults believe capitalism is better than socialism. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 20% disagree and say socialism is better. Twenty-seven percent (27%) are not sure which is better. Adults under 30 are essentially evenly divided: 37% prefer capitalism, 33% socialism, and 30% are undecided. Thirty-somethings are a bit more supportive of the free-enterprise approach with 49% for capitalism and 26% for socialism. Adults over 40 strongly favor capitalism, and just 13% of those older Americans believe socialism is better.

50% of GOP Voters in Arizona Say McCain Is Out of Touch

Arizona Republican voters don’t see Senator John McCain having much trouble winning the GOP Senate Primary next year, but 50% believe he has lost touch with his party’s base. Conservatives are even more critical of the longtime incumbent. Forty-three percent (43%) of Arizona Republican voters offer a more positive assessment and say McCain has done a good job representing GOP values, according to a new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the state. Nationally, 69% of GOP voters believe that Republicans in Congress are out of touch with the party’s base. A recent analysis by Scott Rasmussen suggested that the Beltway...

Flashback 1994: Republicans Gain 54 Seats in House and 8 in Senate! (Vanity)

There seems to be a general depression (emotional, not economic) pervading the Republican Party recently. Everyone seems to think the Republican Party dead, as the Democrats have the Presidency, the House, and a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. I know this is not the case, because I lived through 1994. An unpopular Bush had just lost the presidential election of 1992, and the Democrats had just 4 fewer House Seats and 2 fewer Senate Seats than they have now. The economy was rapidly improving, and the press was extatic about the accomplishments of the Democratic Majority. Pundits predicted the demise...

The number of Americans who describe themselves as "conservative" outnumbers those who call themselves "liberal" by more than two-to-one, according to the latest report by pollster Kellyanne Conway, published in Human Events newspaper, with the headline, The Unbearable Lightness of Approval Ratings. See, http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=31496 According to the Pew Research Center, 48% of Americans prefer a “smaller government [with] fewer services,” up from 42% prior to the November election.
Opinion of a strong black American Conservative - interview.

Rev. Perryman - I write about the change from Republican to Democrat in my book: Unfounded Loyalty, but the short answer is because Republicans have failed to publish their own impressive history in the area of Civil Rights and Race Relations and they do a very poor job in communicating their position. Over the years, Republicans have spent billions of dollars on Yard Signs during elections which are burned after the election is over, but they do not spend one dime in public relations or improving their image during non-election years. In contrast, the liberals use, Hollywood, MSNBC, CNN, the...

Obama Wins Praise From Many Muslims

Obama's visit to Turkey this week was full of gestures calculated at showing he is a friend to Muslims, like his headliner sound bite that the U.S will never be "at war with Islam" and his mention of the Muslims in his family. Even throwaway lines like a comment that he had to wrap up a town-hall meeting with Turkish students "before the call to prayer" showed he was no stranger to Muslims' way of life. **PUKE!**

Obama turns to survey researcher for census post

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama on Thursday selected Robert M. Groves to be the next census director, turning to a survey researcher who has clashed with Republicans over the use of statistical sampling to lead the high-stakes head count. The White House announced Obama's intention to nominate Groves, a former Census Bureau associate director of statistical design from 1990-92. If confirmed by the Senate, Groves will take the helm less than a year before the census, which has been beset by partisan bickering and will be used to apportion House seats and allocate billions in federal dollars.

AM Alert: Seat scramble

Let the campaigns begin. First, Sen. Mark DeSaulnier got himself elected to the Assembly in November 2006. Then the Concord Democrat got himself elected to the state Senate last November when he and Tom Torlakson, now back in the Assembly, swapped seats. And now that Rep. Ellen Tauscher has officially announced that she's leaving Congress for a post in the Obama administration, DeSaulnier has decided to run for that East Bay seat. What about Torlakson? He's endorsed DeSaulnier for Tauscher's seat and says he's formally kicking off his state schools chief campaign on April 3.

We hear a lot these days about the blunders and failings of Chairman Michael Steele. Many think that Chairman Steele has been making too many public mistakes and is simply not up to the job. In my humble opinion, they are totally and absolutely wrong. Dead wrong. Steele knows exactly what he’s doing. You see, Steele is obviously using a classic military tactic. A probing action to draw out the enemy (or in this case the opposition “us” – Movement Conservatives) for the purpose of judging their strengths/weaknesses. Steele is gutsy and bold. He aggressively thrusts forward with his “Extreme...

Boxer has big lead over potential GOP Senate challengers in poll

U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer has a comfortable lead over potential Republican challengers for her job in 2010, including Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, though voters are divided in their enthusiasm for her re-election, according to a Field Poll released Thursday. In a hypothetical matchup against Schwarzenegger, who will leave the Governor's Office in January 2011, Democrat Boxer leads by 54 percent to 30 percent, the poll found. The Republican governor has never said publicly that he plans to run for another political office. That marks a drop for Schwarzenegger from the October 2007 Field Poll, when the governor had a 44 percent...

Maldonado draws GOP's wrath

Budget hero – or turncoat? Sen. Abel Maldonado has staked his political future on being the final piece of California's budget jigsaw puzzle. The $40 billion package to ease the state's budget crisis had been stalled, a single vote short, until the moderate Republican flipped to cast the decisive vote early Thursday morning. To secure his support for higher taxes, the Santa Maria lawmaker wrung concessions from resistant Democrats that could launch his ascent via a mixture of populism and tilting the political playing field to his advantage. Those victories, however, came at a political cost. Maldonado had to abandon...

- Palin's national approval rating is now 49-40. That's up four points since the last poll in early November, and seems to contradict claims by some in the media that she'd fade away after the election. Among Republicans, her approval rating is a whopping 85-10, among independents a still healthy 46-41. - People overwhelmingly back Palin's criticism of her treatment by the MSM during the election campaign. On the question 'Do you think Sarah Palin has been treated fairly or unfairly by the press?', 58 percent said she was treated unfairly, 35 percent fairly.
