DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) - Iraq's prime minister lashed out Wednesday at U.S. criticism, saying no one has the right to impose timetables on his elected government and that his country "can find friends elsewhere." Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki blamed the U.S. presidential campaign for the recent tough words about his government, from President Bush and from other U.S. politicians. Bush on Tuesday said he was frustrated with Iraqi leaders' inability to bridge political divisions. But he added that only the Iraqi people can decide whether to sideline al-Maliki. "Clearly, the Iraqi government's got to do more," Bush said. "I think...

The Taliban's former spokesman is now a Yale student. Anyone see a problem with that? Monday, February 27, 2006 12:01 a.m. Never has an article made me blink with astonishment as much as when I read in yesterday's New York Times magazine that Sayed Rahmatullah Hashemi, former ambassador-at-large for the Taliban, is now studying at Yale on a U.S. student visa. This is taking the obsession that U.S. universities have with promoting diversity a bit too far.

The mother of a fallen U.S. soldier who is holding a roadside peace vigil near President Bush's ranch -- has dramatically changed her account about what happened when she met the commander-in-chief last summer! Cindy Sheehan, 48, of Vacaville, Calif., who last year praised Bush for bringing her family the "gift of happiness," took to the nation's TV outlets this weekend to declare how Bush "killed an indispensable part of our family and humanity." CINDY 2004 THE REPORTER of Vacaville, CA published an account of Cindy Sheehan's visit with the president at Fort Lewis near Seattle on June 24, 2004:...

Russian Sub Surfaces; All Seven Crew Alive By VLADIMIR ISACHENKOV, Associated Press Writer Seven submarine crew members trapped for nearly three days under the Pacific Ocean were rescued Sunday after a British remote-controlled vehicle cut away the undersea cables that had snarled the vessel. The seven crew members, whose oxygen supplies had been dwindling amid underwater temperatures in the mid-40s, appeared to be in satisfactory condition, naval spokesman Capt. Igor Dygalo said. The seven were being examined by ship medics, he said. The sub surfaced late Sunday afternoon, some three days after becoming stranded in 600 feet of water off...

The largest local union of Border Patrol agents in the country has declared its support for the Minuteman Project in Arizona, while at the same time slamming both the American Civil Liberties Union and President Bush. According to its website, the U.S. Border Patrol Local 2544, which covers the Tucson sector of the agency, the volunteers involved in the border-monitoring Minuteman Project have been nothing but supportive. "We want to make it clear – because we've had a lot of questions about this – we have not had one single complaint from a rank-and-file agent in this sector about the...

The purpose of FreeRepublic.com's multiple message boards is to limit the topics for each board to particular topics. Posting the same message on all the boards defeats the purpose of multiple-boards for special topics. It is very annoying to see the same message on every bulletin board. PLEASE! Kerry sees red at orange tan jokes 30/09/2004 - 18:29:24 As George Bush and John Kerry go head-to-head in what is considered the most crucial presidential election in generations, America has turned to another issue – the colour of Senator Kerry’s face. So-called “attack dogs” who pledge their allegiance to Republican Mr Bush posted pictures on the internet this week of an “orange” looking Mr Kerry. Newspapers picked up the story and even Lynne Cheney, the wife of vice-president Dick Cheney, has commented on the shade of the Democratic challenger’s tan. The implication that Mr Kerry has given himself a...

This headline has been on Yahoo.com more than 18 hours. Bush's National Guard file missing records. Remember the AP article: The Associated Press, a powerful worldwide news source owned by its member daily newspapers, has perpetrated a vile and slanderous lie about President Bush and his supporters, and been caught read-handed. The smoking gun exists safe and sound in the cache memory of countless blog sites. The AP's reporter wrote a dispatch claiming that when President Bush told a rally of his supporters in West Allis, Wisconsin that President Clinton had been hospitalized, “the audience "of thousands booed. Bush did...

DENVER - The name of Kobe Bryant's accuser was mistakenly posted on a state court Web site on Tuesday as part of a legal filing in the case. The subpoena showing the 19-year-old Eagle woman's name and address was left up for about an hour. Court staffers then removed the filing from the site and reposted it with the personal information blacked out. State courts spokeswoman Karen Salaz said it was unclear how the error was made, but said court staffers are responsible for blacking out such information in public filings. The alleged victim's identity has been previously disclosed on...

EASTON, Pa. (AP) -- Those who pay their tabs with bad checks get top billing on the marquee in front the Park Avenue Market. It's Vic Ricci's way of getting back at customers who bounce checks. The 52-year-old grocer said he started doing it in January when an infrequent shopper bounced a check for almost $200. He said he tried phoning the man, but the number was no longer in service. Then he went to the man's home and the man said he desperately needed food for his family. "I said, 'Give me a call every few weeks so I...
