April 21, 2012   Saturday of the Second Week of Easter   Reading 1 Acts 6:1-7 As the number of disciples continued to grow, the Hellenists complained against the Hebrewsbecause their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution. So the Twelve called together the community of the disciples and said,"It is not right for us to neglect the word of God to serve at table.Brothers, select from among you seven reputable men, filled with the Spirit and wisdom, whom we shall appoint to this task, whereas we shall devote ourselves to prayerand to the ministry of the word."The proposal was acceptable to the whole...

This is my first prayer request on FR. My brother has had MS for 20 years. He has been on permanent disability for 15. Two weeks ago he had surgery to reattach a pump that is connected to his spine. Yesterday they discovered he has an infection in his spinal cord from the first surgery. They are going to perform another surgery today. He is truly my hero, a very decent family man and devote Christian. He never complains. Instead of saying Why me? he says Why not me? It had to happen to someone. I can handle it. His...

On the Apostles' Response to Persecution "In the face of trial, they pray, they get in touch with God" VATICAN CITY, APRIL 19, 2012 (Zenit.org).- Here is a translation of the address Benedict XVI gave at the general audience Wednesday. * * * Dear brothers and sisters, After the great feasts we return to the catechesis on prayer. In the audience before Holy Week we reflected on the figure of the Blessed Virgin Mary, present in the midst of the apostles when they were awaiting the descent of the Holy Spirit. An atmosphere of prayer accompanied the Church’s first steps....

Just as we saw yesterday with Mary Magdalene at the empty tomb, the 2 disciples on the road to Emmaus were sad about the Lord’s death and didn’t realize that He was right...

April 17, 2012   Tuesday of the Second Week of Easter   Reading 1 Acts 4:32-37 The community of believers was of one heart and mind, and no one claimed that any of his possessions was his own,but they had everything in common. With great power the Apostles bore witnessto the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great favor was accorded them all. There was no needy person among them, for those who owned property or houses would sell them, bring the proceeds of the sale, and put them at the feet of the Apostles, and they were distributed to each according to need. My father in law, the beloved great grandfather of our 9 grand children, died a few hours ago. As a Catholic it pains me to ask for selfish prayers. But screw that, this is a guy I loved and respected more than you can imagine. He was a father to me in truth, not just a courtesy father borrowed from my wife. Please help us send him home. He wasn't what you would call the most devout person on the planet, but he believed in God and right. He lived right. I'll not see him in purgatory. Thank you.
