Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem Rembrandt's Interpretation of Esther Character Studies From The Bible Esther 4 When Mordecai learned of all that had been done, he tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and ashes, and went out into the city, wailing loudly and bitterly. 2 But he went only as far as the king’s gate, because no one clothed in sackcloth was allowed to enter it. 3 In every province to which the edict and order of the king came, there was great mourning among the Jews, with fasting, weeping and wailing. Many lay in sackcloth and ashes. 4 When Esther’s eunuchs...

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem Character Studies From The Bible Esther 3 After these events, King Xerxes honored Haman son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, elevating him and giving him a seat of honor higher than that of all the other nobles. 2 All the royal officials at the king’s gate knelt down and paid honor to Haman, for the king had commanded this concerning him. But Mordecai would not kneel down or pay him honor. 3 Then the royal officials at the king’s gate asked Mordecai, “Why do you disobey the king’s command?” 4 Day after day they spoke to him but...

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem Character Studies From The Bible Esther 19 When the virgins were assembled a second time, Mordecai was sitting at the king’s gate. 20 But Esther had kept secret her family background and nationality just as Mordecai had told her to do, for she continued to follow Mordecai’s instructions as she had done when he was bringing her up. 21 During the time Mordecai was sitting at the king’s gate, Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s officers who guarded the doorway, became angry and conspired to assassinate King Xerxes. 22 But Mordecai found out about the plot...

More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

Our oldest son, age 15, has struggled with asthma most of his life. He has worked hard and turned his body into a muscled, athletic machine. Tonight, though, he had the most severe asthma attack of his life. My husband rushed him to the clinic where they quickly treated him. Doctor was considering admitting him to the hospital, but as he responded well sent him home with guidelines about going to the ER tonight. Within an hour of returning home he needed a nebulizer treatment. If he gets another attack tonight, it's off to the ER. We've dealt with bad...
