And they journeyed from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came to the Wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after they departed from the land of Egypt. 2. April 2, 2012   Monday of Holy Week   Reading 1 Is 42:1-7 Here is my servant whom I uphold,my chosen one with whom I am pleased,Upon whom I have put my Spirit;he shall bring forth justice to the nations,Not crying out, not shouting, not making his voice heard in the street.A bruised reed he shall not break, and a smoldering wick he shall not quench,Until he establishes justice on the earth;the coastlands will wait for his teaching. Thus says God, the LORD,who created the heavens and stretched them out,who spreads out the earth with its crops,Who gives breath to its...

Whoever Exalts Himself Will Be Humbled… Mar 6th, 2012by Gary Zimak.  …but whoever humbles himself will be exalted. (Matthew 23:12)Whether it involves our practice of attending daily Mass, praying the rosary or performing charitable acts, the Lord’s words are clear. Being Catholic involves A LOT more than just thoughts and words. While all of these spiritual practices are essential parts of our faith, we have to remember that we’re also called to LOVE and SERVE one another. Jesus gave us the supreme example of what it means to serve. One of the best ways to serve is to SHARE what...

Helpful or Heartless Toward Others? "It is Christ . . . who also makes intercession for us. . . . the Spirit . . . makes intercession for the saints . . ." —Romans 8:34, 27 Do we need any more arguments than these to become intercessors-that Christ “always lives to make intercession” (Hebrews 7:25), and that the Holy Spirit “makes intercession for the saints”? Are we living in such a relationship with others that we do the work of intercession as a result of being the children of God who are taught by His Spirit? We should take...

Hello everyone- Very scary day over here. My 39 yr old wife suffered an instaneous, out of the blue headache this morning and collapsed. Apparently this is referred to as a "thunderclap" headache, and at the ER she later began exhibiting signs of seizure: right side of her body wouldn't respond, and she could not answer some basic questions- though later she told me that she knew the answers, but could not make her mouth form the words. Heedfulness or Hypocrisy in Ourselves? "If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin which does not lead to death, he will ask, and He will give him life for those who commit sin not leading to death" —1 John 5:16 If we are not heedful and pay no attention to the way the Spirit of God works in us, we will become spiritual hypocrites. We see where other people are failing, and then we take our discernment and turn it into comments of ridicule and criticism, instead of turning it into intercession on their behalf. Holiness or Hardness Toward God? "He . . . wondered that there was no intercessor . . ." —Isaiah 59:16 The reason many of us stop praying and become hard toward God is that we only have an emotional interest in prayer. It sounds good to say that we pray, and we read books on prayer which tell us that prayer is beneficial— that our minds are quieted and our souls are uplifted when we pray. But Isaiah implied in this verse that God is amazed at such thoughts about prayer.Worship and intercession must go together; one is impossible...

Our Lord’s Surprise Visits "You also be ready . . ." —Luke 12:40 A Christian worker’s greatest need is a readiness to face Jesus Christ at any and every turn. This is not easy, no matter what our experience has been. This battle is not against sin, difficulties, or circumstances, but against being so absorbed in our service to Jesus Christ that we are not ready to face Jesus Himself at every turn. The greatest need is not facing our beliefs or doctrines, or even facing the question of whether or not we are of any use to Him,...

" ’Let us go to Judea again.’ The disciples said to Him, ’. . . are You going there again?’ " —John 11:7-8 Just because I don’t understand what Jesus Christ says, I have no right to determine that He must be mistaken in what He says.      The Rosaryby Sebastian R. FamaThe Rosary consists of the Apostle's Creed, which is a statement of Christian belief, the Lord's prayer, which was uttered by Jesus in Luke 11:2-4, the Glory Be, which is a prayer that glorifies the Trinity, the Hail Mary, and the Mysteries. The Hail Mary and the Mysteries are probably the two parts that are the most misunderstood by non-Catholics. However, they are both very scriptural. In Psalm 143:5 we read, "I remember the days of old, I meditate on all that thou hast done, I muse on what thy hands have wrought." Eighteen of the...

Spiritual Vision Through Personal Purity (1) "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God" —Matthew 5:8 Purity is not innocence— it is much more than that. Purity is the result of continued spiritual harmony with God. We have to grow in purity. Our life with God may be right and our inner purity unblemished, yet occasionally our outer life may become spotted and stained. God intentionally does not protect us from this possibility, because this is the way we recognize the necessity of maintaining our spiritual vision through personal purity. If the outer level of our...

Maintaining the Proper Relationship ". . . the friend of the bridegroom . . ." —John 3:29 Goodness and purity should never be traits that draw attention to themselves, but should simply be magnets that draw people to Jesus Christ. If my holiness is not drawing others to Him, it is not the right kind of holiness; it is only an influence which awakens undue emotions and evil desires in people and diverts them from heading in the right direction.      Praying to Saintsby Sebastian R. FamaThere seems to be a great deal of confusion among non-Catholics concerning the Church's teaching on praying to the saints in heaven. It is alleged that by praying to them we equate them with God. This is false. But why pray to them, when we can pray to God? Don't the Scriptures tell us that we have but one mediator, and that is "Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 2:5)? It is true that intercessory prayer is a type of mediation but not the type exclusively performed by Jesus. Hebrews 9:15 tells us that Jesus "is the...

Please pray for my mother. She is fighting many serious health problems at this time. The Lord knows who she is and what He can do (for nothing is impossible with Him). So I will only ask for your prayers to Him in the Name of His Son if you can. http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%208:16-17&version=KJV Matthew 8:16-17 King James Version (KJV) 16 When the even was come, they brought unto Him many that were possessed with devils: and He cast out the spirits with His Word, and healed all that were sick: 17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias...

…let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting. (James 1:4-6)

Am I Carnally Minded? "Where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal . . . ?" —1 Corinthians 3:3 The natural man, or unbeliever, knows nothing about carnality. The desires of the flesh warring against the Spirit, and the Spirit warring against the flesh, which began at rebirth, are what produce carnality and the awareness of it. But Paul said, “Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16). In other words, carnality will disappear. Are you quarrelsome and easily upset over small things? Do you think that...

Indulgencesby Sebastian R. FamaIt is claimed that the Catholic Church invented the doctrine on indulgences in order to extract money from the faithful. Critics are quick to remind us that it was the selling of indulgences in the Middle Ages that sparked the Protestant Reformation. No one disputes that there were abuses by individuals in the past. But past abuses should not be used as a reason to reject indulgences. The Bible itself has always been subject to abuse. Should it too be rejected? Of course not! Both the Bible and the doctrine on Indulgences should stand or fall on...
