A rabbi in Israel is calling on fellow Jewish activists in the country to protect the thousands of African asylum-seekers the government is threatening to deport. Religious leaders from the advocacy group Rabbis for Human Rights expressed their willingness on Tuesday to open up their own homes to shelter the migrants. Rabbi Susan Silverman, sister of the American comedian Sarah Silverman, promoted the idea during a conference in Jerusalem and received the support of about 130 religious leaders who had assembled there, Haaretz reports. Silverman said the rabbis’ activism is driven by their Jewish faith ― and the fear that...

Republican voters overwhelmingly approve of President Donald Trump temporarily halting the importation of refugees, even after a media firestorm falsely labeled it a Muslim ban. Rasmussen Reports filtered out media hysteria and asked likely voters: The federal government has banned refugees from all countries from entering the United States for the next four months until there is a better system in place to keep out individuals who are terrorist threats. Do you favor or oppose such a ban? A majority, 52 percent, favored the move, while 43 percent opposed it, and six percent were unsure. Men strongly approved of the...

An ordained Conservative rabbi for 44 years, Rosenbloom was expelled by unanimous vote last month after a hearing of the R.A.s Executive Council. Since 1972, the Conservative movement has prohibited its rabbis from officiating at or even attending intermarriages. Rosenbloom told JTA the council offered to retain his membership in exchange for a promise not to perform any more intermarriages. Rosenbloom declined the offer.

A conversation between two of the most distinguished rabbis in Israel indicates scholars of the Torah see unmistakable signs of the coming of the Messiah. Whats more, in the Messianic era, Christians will become a source of Torah learning, as believers in Jesus Christ rediscover the source of their beliefs in both Judaism and the Torah. The conversation took place between Rabbi Moshe Sternbuch and Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, both of whom are regarded as leading experts in the Torah. During the conversation, Rabbi Kanievsky reportedly predicted the imminent coming of the Messiah, before the end of the year after the...

Who has Obama conned - the Rabbis or the Generals? Congress--and the world - need to know The upcoming debate and vote in the US Congress to endorse the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action with Iran (JCPOA) has become even more critical now that President Obama has reportedly secured the necessary votes to veto any Congressional resolution of disapproval. Congress has been flooded with petitions - ostensibly neither Democrat nor Republican - urging Congressmen to cast their votes by crossing political party lines. 340 Rabbis in their appeal to Congress dated 17 Augusthave made the following assertions:

Israeli rabbi Michael Finkel says the Jewish community is on high alert because of the influence of the neo-Nazi's within Kiev's temporary government. "This is Right Sector. This is the peole who are marching in Nazi uniforms with SF on their arms and on their military uniforms," Finkel says. According to the rabbi, it is possible that Ukraine could turn into a country similar to Lebanon. "In Lebanon, there's an official government and there is Hezbollah, which is a terrrorist organization linked to the government. They're members of the parliament, and there's a Hezbollah militia over thre, a separate army,...
  • Are Rabbinic Interpretations of the Bible Accurate?

Misunderstanding can result from the mechanical reproduction of previously published ideas either because those ideas are taken out of context or because they are based on factual errors. The way authors sort and select data, without verifying the source or checking the facts, leads to distorted interpretations. This problem must be anticipated in Bible interpretation where it is common to rely on what the rabbis have written. As the Bible is viewed as a Jewish religious text, it is natural to seek rabbinic guidance. Christians tend to read the Old Testament through rabbinic sources. Many pastors use commentaries written by...

A group called Rabbis from the Committee to Save the Land and People of Israel sent a letter to US Secretary of State John Kerry this Sunday, warning him to end his antagonism towards Israel. [] Drawing on Jewish history, the letters declares to Kerry: If you continue on this destructive path, you will ensure your everlasting disgrace in Jewish history for bringing calamity upon the Jewish peoplelike Nebuchadnezer and Titus who destroyed, respectively, the first and second great Temples and the entire Holy City of Jerusalem, and who, by Heavenly punishment, brought eventual disaster upon themselves, too. The government is planning to cede several sites in ancient Jerusalem to Muslim and Christian ownership, and Israels rabbis remain silent, Rabbi Yisrael Ariel has accused. There is a terrible plan, called the holy basin, to split Jerusalem between Christians, Muslims and Jews, Rabbi Ariel said, speaking to Arutz Sheva. Rabbi Ariel, who heads the Temple Institute, continued, The Christians will get the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and Mount Zion, the Muslims will get the Temple Mount, and we Jews will need to visit the Kotel (Western Wall) under the auspices of the Palestinian Authority. The Palestinian Authority (PA)...

A delegation from the Rabbinical Congress for Peace (RCP) met with Knesset ministers and MKs on Wednesday, urging them to prepare resignation letters to prevent land concessions in ongoing peace talks with the Palestinian Authority (PA). The meeting came as US Secretary of State John Kerry is in Israel for his tenth visit since taking office, reportedly launching a January diplomatic "offensive" to force Israeli withdrawals. RCP rabbis warned Tourism Minister Uzi Landau and Agriculture Minister Yair Shamir that they sense a complacency similar that prior to the "Disengagement" from Gush Katif. Threatening letters were sent Monday to the offices of Chief Rabbis Shlomo Amar and Yonah Metzger. The identical letters said that this was the Chief Rabbis' last chance to drop their opposition to allowing women to pray freely at the Western Wall. The letters included threatening language and images. A drawing of a gun was scrawled on the letters. The text said that if the rabbis did not allow women specifically "Women of the Wall" to pray at the Western Wall as they wished, the rabbis would return home with the dead bodies of hundreds of hareidi Jews.

WHEN is a Jew not a Jew? When hes a Karaite. Or so says Israels chief rabbinate, which, after 65 years of relative harmony with an ancient Jewish sect, is reopening an old and bitter schism. In recent months, rabbis working for Israels ministry of religion have deemed Karaite marriages invalid, fined their butchers for claiming to be kosher, and demanded that Karaites marrying Orthodox Jewish women should convert, sometimes having to undergo tavila, or baptism. We are already Jews, protests Moshe Firrouz, a computer engineer who heads the Karaites Council of Sages. The rabbinate is denying us our religious...

Its another one of those baffling mysteries. Muslims attack non-Muslims while shouting Allah Akbar and no one can figure out a motive. Agnes Thibault-Lecuivre, a spokeswoman for the Paris prosecutors office, said the two victims had been wearing Jewish skullcaps, and the attacker was detained after a chase through the synagogue. The Simon Wiesenthal Center, which monitors anti-Semitic incidents worldwide, said in a statement that the assailant screamed Allah-u-Akbar or God is great during the attack. The rabbi, who is in his late 40s, was recovering from surgery for a neck injury and his 18-year-old son sustained lesser...
