Clear Channel Media and Entertainment, the nation's largest radio operator, has upped John Hogan to chairman and chief executive. The promotion of Hogan, who had been president and CEO, comes as the company continues to try to make itself over as a general entertainment company. It recently changed its name to Clear Channel Media and Entertainment from Clear Channel Radio and is planning an expansion into television and live entertainment. Hogan has been with Clear Channel since 1999 and has managed to survive a few ownership changes during that time. The company is now part of CC Media Holdings Inc.,...

ASCAP -- the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers -- has updated its list of most-played songs of the 2011 holiday season. For the second year in a row, "Sleigh Ride" tops the list of songs, which were all written or co-written by members of ASCAP. Since Oct.1, "Sleigh Ride" has aired 154,327 times.

The Education Question 1092. Speaking of education, what is the real reason for Catholic antipathy to our state schools? Whatever others may think of our public policy of free, compulsory, and secular education, Catholics cannot in conscience accept that system as being suitable for the education of Catholic children. The real reason is that the religious training of the children is not sufficiently provided for, the time allotted for religion being quite inadequate, even were it utilized. The State system demands the "3 R's," reading, writing and arithmetic. Catholic principles demand the "4 R's," religion, reading, writing and arithmetic; and...

No one man should have the ability to shut down ALL RADIO & TV broadcasting. Sure enough, there was a previously unreported Vietnamese language numbers station on that frequency. S6 or stronger here in Southern California. What made this signal fairly interesting is that as far as I know no Vietnamese numbers station of any kind had been...

There are two simultaneous protests taking place in Washington right now, Occupy DC and October2011. Here’s liberal radio host Mike Malloy speaking to the October2011 crowd. Malloy starts by comparing the invasion of Afghanistan by the “Bush crime family” to Nazi war crimes. He then adds that the Nuremberg trials resulted in hanging for senior leaders found guilty. At this point someone in the crowd yells “Let’s do it again!” and Malloy responds “Yeah!” Several more people in the crowd join in apparent agreement:

The first change from the combined Cumulus and Citadel looks to be taking place Monday in Washington, DC. Both morning co-host Mike O’Meara and afternoon host Cerphe Colwell, at Classic Rock “105.9 The Edge” WVRX have posted on Facebook that they and the rest of the staff have been let go and that the station will be flipping on Monday. Most speculation revolves around the station flipping to a simulcast of sister News/Talk 630 WMAL. While that makes the most sense, nothing has been confirmed so far.

The Circle of Protection radio advertisements being broadcast in three states right now make their arguments, such as they are, from a quotation of the Bible and a federal poverty program that might be cut in a debt ceiling compromise. But the scriptural quotation is a serious misuse of the Book of Proverbs, and the claims about heating assistance programs are at best overblown: the ads are really not better than their goofy contemporary piano track. The Circle of Protection, of which the group Sojourners that produced the ads is a founding member, enjoyed the high honor of a meeting at...
