The Common Sense Fix (Dave Ramsey site)

Dave Ramsey was interviewed on Neil Cavuto's show this afternoon. Dave has developed a one-page "Common Sense Plan" based on inputs from a number of experts. I expect this includes Neut. It was put up a couple of hours ago on his site. It has apparently already been downloaded by the thousands for sending by fax or email to congress critters. The direct link is at Common Sense Fix pdf. It actually looks like a pretty good plan that would be worth sending or faxing to various folks.

How We Can Clean Up A Lot of the Economic Problems (Dave Ramsey's plan)

Economist Wesbury is saying that if we change that one rule and don't force them to mark down to market value and just let them hold on to all the stuff, and say just on sub-primes for this period of time you can change that rule -- a temporary change -- that'll free the market up. It's seized right now; it's frozen. This will thaw it out and get it going again. He says that'll solve 60% of the problem ... and I think he's right.

Threat Matrix: August 2008

Pentagon Makes Fighting Extremism Top Priority Seven years after the Sept. 11 attacks, the Pentagon on Thursday officially named "the long war" against global extremism as its top priority and pledged to avert any conventional military threat from China or Russia through dialogue. The Defense Department, in a new national defense strategy, also emphasized the need to subordinate military operations to "soft power" initiatives to undermine Islamist militancy by promoting economic, political and social development in vulnerable corners of the world. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said he hoped the change would help establish permanent institutional support for counterinsurgency skills...

DA clears Ramsey family By The Denver Post Article Last Updated: 07/09/2008 01:44:05 PM MDT The Boulder District Attorney's Office announced today that new DNA evidence discovered in the clothing worn by JonBenet Ramsey identifies "the perpetrator of the homicide" and excludes all members of the murdered girl's family. District Attorney Mary Lacy said in a letter posted on the DA's website and first reported by Paula Woodward of 9News that the Ramsey family "be treated only as victims," and she apologized to them. Six-year-old JonBenét was discovered Dec. 26, 1996, with a garrote around her neck in the basement...

Former D.C. police chief shifts stance on gun ban

Former D.C. Police Chief Charles Ramsey is shifting his position on Washington's 31-year ban on handgun ownership as the Supreme Court prepares to hear arguments on the issue. Ramsey says there needs to be reasonable control over guns, but he says handgun registration can provide that control. The former chief, who is set to take over Philadelphia's police department in January, says the nation is not going to ban handguns and he's taking a realistic approach to the issue.

Former JonBenet suspect faces battery charge

ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- A former suspect in the killing of JonBenet Ramsey was arrested early Saturday in suburban Atlanta, Georgia, after a 911 call of domestic violence, police said. John Mark Karr, 42, is charged with battery and obstruction of a 911 call, Lt. Keith Zgonc of the Sandy Springs police said. Karr was arrested in Bangkok, Thailand, last year in connection with the 1996 slaying of the 6-year-old beauty queen. JonBenet's beaten and strangled body was found December 26, 1996, in the basement of her parents' home in Boulder, Colorado. Karr was taken to Colorado, but his DNA...

True Crime Update 11/28/06

The holiday season arrives but True Crime continues. You will never believe the story of this couple and a motel room. Also, bodies found in Atlantic City drainage ditch. Lots of drownings, but were they accidents? Covering pervert polygamist Warren Jeffs and wondering how his trial might affect a major upcoming presidential candidate. A Clinton neighbor's wife dies under strange circumstances and this fellow argues that because the deer was dead when he made love to it that he is not technically guilty of animal cruelty.

Time for a few TV Tidbits. First, an old-age rant about those American Music Awards. If this is the best in music America has to offer I must thank the Lord I was born in the 50's. Next, a summary of that "48 Hours" Tribute to John and Patsy Ramsey. Indeed, the stupidity to defend these killing parents continues and I am amazed at those who continue to carry John Ramsey's water. Some startling revelations on that pervert Geek John Mark Karr and the silly reason they thought he killed Jonbenet. Some serious lies were spread about this guy.

Evidence missing in Karr child porn case

SANTA ROSA, Calif. - Efforts to prosecute one-time JonBenet Ramsey murder suspect John Mark Karr on child pornography charges should not be jeopardized even though his computer that allegedly contained the images was lost, Sonoma County authorities said Wednesday. Authorities seized the computer from Karr's home in 2001 and copied the entire hard drive onto paper, including the five illicit images, said Sheriff's Department Lt. Dave Edmonds. He said authorities looked for the computer for the past two weeks, but have had no luck. "We did an exhaustive search. We have probably hundreds of thousands of evidence items and we're...

Time for a True Crime post and the most intriguing and confusing this week would be the patent attorney who stabbed his neighbor to death. A neighbor that the attorney THOUGHT was molesting his two-year-old daughter. This could be the big court room story of this decade. Americans don't take kindly to neighbors abusing their children. Who amongst wouldn't be prone to violence should we discover such a thing? Except, did the neighbor molest the daughter? Why was the attorney's wife out of town when she told her husband of the alleged crime? Could a two year old accurately recount...

Price tag put on John Mark Karr investigation

Boulder County officials spent at least $29,726 in costs related to the arrest, extradition and court appearance of John Mark Karr, the former suspect in the death of JonBenet Ramsey. The Boulder District Attorney's office said it spent $23,656 investigating Karr. That included nearly $6,000 for business class tickets to fly him and an investigator to California from Bangkok, Thailand, where Karr was arrested. The sheriff's office said it incurred $6,070 in costs, including $3,255 for Karr's flight on a state plane from Los Angeles to Jefferson County Airport in Colorado, sheriff's officials said Friday.
Grotesque Ignorance Exposed (The Media & John Mark Karr)

About ten years ago, while writing a book on crime, I attended a district attorneys' convention in Las Vegas. I wasn't supposed to be there -- they don't like the press -- but I managed to sneak into the back of the hotel ballroom. After the first speech I struck up a conversation with the assistant district attorney sitting next to me. He was a young black man, neatly dressed, with a trim mustache. "What's the biggest thing you've learned as an ADA?" I asked him.

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - Boulder County District Attorney Mary Lacy defended her decision to bring John Mark Karr back from Thailand to be investigated in the 1996 slaying of JonBenet Ramsey. "The decisions were mine," Lacy said, one day after she dropped the case against the 41-year-old schoolteacher. "I should be held accountable." Just as she began taking questions, a fire alarm disrupted the news conference, but it resumed a few minutes later.
Sonoma County authorities will seek to have John Mark Karr extradited to California to face child pornography charges on hold since he failed to appear for a court hearing five years ago. District Attorney Stephan Passalacqua said the decision was made Monday after Colorado authorities dropped their case against Karr in the JonBenet Ramsey killing. Karr, a one-time substitute teacher in Petaluma area schools, is wanted on a no-bail warrant issued by a Sonoma County judge after he failed to appear at a December 2001 court hearing in a misdemeanor child pornography case. In a recorded July 29 phone conversation with Tracey, Karr noted that he wanted Johnny Depp to portray him in a movie to be based on a manuscript Karr had authored. During that chat, Karr also noted that he was skilled at mimicry and was especially proud of his ability "to impersonate Katherine Hepburn."

Owens blasts Boulder County DA

Gov. Bill Owens ripped the Boulder County district attorney today, saying "Mary Lacy should be held accountable for the most extravagant and expensive DNA test in Colorado history." Owens’ statement came shortly after news reports that suspect John Mark Karr’s DNA didn’t match that found on slain JonBenet Ramsey. "Unfortunately, the hysterics surrounding John Mark Karr served only to distract Boulder officials from doing their job which should be solving the murder of JonBenet Ramsey," Owens said. "I find it incredible that Boulder authorities wasted thousands of taxpayer dollars to bring Karr to Colorado given such a lack of evidence."...

Well, for all us cynics out there, let us raise our glasses of whatever poison suits us in tribute to the late mainstream media. Denver's KUSA cited two unnamed sources for the report, which if confirmed would call into question Karr's claim to have committed the 1996 murder of the young beauty queen. US authorities have yet to comment on the television report. Karr, 41, was arrested in Thailand on August 16 on a California warrant over charges of possessing child pornography.
