  • The Biblical Last Days (Part 1)

There is extraordinary disagreement among Christians about eschatology, that is, Bible prophecy. One concept among many about eschatology is the so-called “last days” or “end times.” The end of time seems to hold a particular fascination for American Evangelicals who are wrapped up in rapture theology. They curiously find hope in an expected destruction of the planet and its replacement with a utopia in which even carnivorous animals will take up vegetarianism. It is simply taken for granted that the Bible predicts and explains an end of time, and that there is no number of elapsed centuries spent waiting for...

Will there be a rapture? Is it pre-tribulational? I believe the answer is an emphatic 'yes' to both questions. Here are some key points: 1. For starters, I want to address the small, but growing minority of Christians who emphatically state that the rapture isn't even in the Bible. Now I believe it is one thing to hold to various views as to the timing of the rapture event, but no rapture at all? I believe that this belief is thoroughly nonsensical. The argument often takes shape the same way that Jehovah's Witnesses will say that the Bible doesn't teach...

President Barack Obama and his outgoing attorney general, Eric Holder, are, along with "progressives" in government, forcing "a new morality" on the American people, a "morality that does not include God" and which is "an Anti-Christ movement," said Reverend Franklin Graham. "There is an anti-Christian bias that is now in our government, has permeated our government, that’s also permeated Washington but [also] at the state and local level," said Rev. Graham during a Mar. 11 interview on Washington Watch With Tony Perkins. "It’s the progressives, whatever you want to call them, that are trying -- and the president is into...

I think this is the year of the rapture.  As a matter of principle I don't want to ever say this it with absolute certainty because I am absolutely not a prophet.  We're just trying hard to interpret the Scriptures and the Signs as best as we can.  There are many simultaneous confirmations this year though: 1. It is the Shmita year (ending the sixth 7-year cycle in September 2015).  The final 7-year cycle of the current Jubilee cycle will arguably begin then, ending in 2022. 2. The Jews were legally back in the land in 1922/23, so 2022 (7...

Defending The Pre-trib Rapture After reading countless messages and articles that attack the pre-trib rapture, I've noticed a certain number of arguments that are repeatedly sent to me. Instead of trying to answer every individual e-mail I receive, I thought it would be a good idea to create a web page that addresses the most commonly mentioned points of debate. This way, I can avoid repeating myself so many times; thereby, maintain my sanity. Nowhere in the Bible, can you find the word "rapture"It amazes me that some folks write to me, questioning the validity of the rapture, simply...

“We have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place…” (2 Peter 1:19). What does Tisha B’Av, the saddest day on the Jewish calendar, have to do with the new leader of Greece, who has just burst onto the world stage? What does Yom Kippur, the most solemn of the seven appointed Feast Days of the Lord, have to do with the pope? Definition of the Theory It is generally held among pretribulationists that the entire church, composed of all believers in this age, will be translated and resurrected at the coming of Christ for them preceding the tribulation. There has arisen in the last century, however, a small group of pretribulationists who contend that only those who are faithful in the church will be raptured or translated and the rest will either be raptured sometime during the tribulation or at its end. As stated by one of its adherents: “The saints will be raptured in groups during the tribulation as they are...

Pretribulationism (Continued) Argument from the nature of the tribulation. Just as premillennialism is founded upon a literal interpretation of millennial passages, so pretribulationism is based upon a literal interpretation of the tribulation passages. A careful and literal exegesis of the Scriptures dealing with the tribulation reveal no evidence whatever that the church of the redeemed of the present age will go through the tribulation. This is brought out particularly in the Scriptural revelation of the nature of the tribulation. Before ascertaining whether the church will pass through the tribulation, it is of utmost importance to understand first what the Scriptures...

The movie “Left Behind” opens today. And while, in a secular culture dismissive of any consequences for unbelief, we can rejoice in any salutary reminders, it is unfortunate that the reminder is riddled with questionable theology and dubious biblical interpreation. In certain (but not all) Protestant circles, and especially among the Evangelicals, there is a strong and often vivid preoccupation with signs of the Second Coming of Christ. Many of the notions that get expressed are either erroneous or extreme. Some of these erroneous notions are rooted in a misunderstanding of the various scriptural genres. "Left Behind" comes out this week, an apocalyptic thriller starring Nicolas Cage. Based on the best-selling book series, the movie revolves around "the rapture": a belief that one day all Christians will suddenly vanish, disappearing from the earth to go be with God, while the world they "left behind" plunges into apocalyptic destruction. Americans may find "Left Behind" to be best-selling entertainment, but is it biblical? I say no. In fact, as a follower of Jesus I find the rapture to be not just a little bit off, but actually upside-down and backwards. When Jesus comes, here are a few...

"This doctrine is not really found in the book of Revelation. If you read the book of Revelation, you won't find any mention of the rapture there," said William Craig, a Research Professor of Philosophy at Talbot School of Theology and Professor of Philosophy at Houston Baptist University. Instead, Craig says, the idea of the rapture comes from a "misinterpretation of 1 and 2 Thessalonians where Paul is describing the coming of the Lord and resurrection of the dead, which will occur at His coming." It’s very difficult to be a so-called ‘watchman on the wall.’ Our spirits are strongly prompted by the Lord to warn the world of God’s impending judgment; unfortunately for us, His timing is not our timing. We instinctively know that He is coming “soon,” but God has a much different definition of that word than we do. To us, the word “soon” means just that. Soon. As in weeks or months at the most. But to God, it could mean days, months, years, decades or even centuries. On the other hand, it could literally mean tomorrow! I sure wish there...

A rare "blood moon tetrad" will arrive with the start of a total lunar eclipse, beginning late on Monday evening--or, for most of the East Coast, early Tuesday. The eclipse, in which the full moon will be darkened by the earth's shadow, will coincide with the Jewish festival of Passover. In a bizarre, rare calendrical coincidence, the Jewish holiday of Sukkot in October will also feature a solar eclipse--as will both Passover and Sukkot next year as well.

Parenthetical clauses are used throughout scripture to explain how, why, when and where in close proximity to the main subject and verb. Parentheses in the book of The Revelation explain cause and effect. They tie together the events that happen previously, to the events that transpire subsequently on the prophetic timeline. Unfortunately, parentheses, as a literary devise, come centuries after the actual parenthetical clauses so prevalent in both Hebrew and Greek linguistic constructions. Because of their late arrival into the English language, the parentheticals in the book of The Revelation have never been either deservedly researched or accurately articulated. Now,...

As a thief veils his presence from those he wishes to steal from, so the Lord has veiled the doctrine of the Pre-Tribulation coming for His church. That may be construed by some as a loaded statement, for sure. Of course, those who have put forth great effort in the study of the Pre-Tribulation Rapture doctrine may dispute its veiling. The Day of the Lord is at hand in which the godlessness, lawlessness and violence of man will reach its EXPONENTIAL zenith (2 Thess. 2:2:8-12, Rev. 6-19)! In 51 AD, almost 20 years after the Resurrection, the Apostle Paul became the first to reveal the incredible secret that would become known as the Rapture of the Church. He did this in his earliest written communication, his first letter to the Thessalonians (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17), repeating it four years later in a letter to the Corinthians (1 Cor. 15:51). In doing so, Paul finally identified the group mentioned in Matthew 24:31 who would be in Heaven waiting to return with the Lord at his 2nd coming. From Thessalonians we know that, at the Rapture, the dead in Christ...

But when there is so much disagreement about this in the religious world, how do we prove such? First, the book would have meant something to its readers. Note that in the letters to the churches (ch. 2-3), two of the churches (Smyrna and Philadelphia) are comforted regarding their persecution by the Jews, whom Jesus calls ""a synagogue of Satan"" (2:9; 3:9). Last week we explored Dispensationalism's reversal of Daniel's 70th Week from Jesus Christ to the Devil. I think many on this chat page were astonished by this exposition. Today, we will explore how Dispensationalism took this lie and formed another: the Parenthesis Gap Theory. This 'gap' was 'unknown and unforeseen' to Christianity until Darby and Scofield 'uncovered' it in the 19th century. But is it really there? Let's read carefully: 24: Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity,...
  • Newt Gingrich: Conservative or the Anti-Christ?

Newt Gingrich is now the front runner for the 2012 GOP Presidential nomination. It appears it will be a 2-man race between him and Mitt Romney. Some here have suggested that there is no difference between the two. Some have even suggested that Gingrich would be a worse choice than Romney, that he's more liberal than Romney, and that he would be as bad if not worse than another 4 years of Obama. Instead of hyperbole, let's examine the actual record, shall we?
  • Why I do not believe in the 'Rapture'

My problem with the 'Rapture' (pre-millenial; pre-tribulation) teaching is that it forces its adherents to actually REVERSE the Person of Jesus Christ to the Devil. That's correct. In the 'Rapture' (or Dispensational) scheme the believer is asked to take the Person of Daniel's 70th Week (Who is Jesus Christ at the Cross) described in Chapter 9, verse 27a: "And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, ..." ... and reverse this 'he' to mean a 'future Antichrist'. Are you confused?...
  • REMINDER FROM HAROLD CAMPING: The World Will End Tomorrow

In case you had forgotten (or made other plans), the world is supposed to end tomorrow. The prognosticator who predicted that the world would end this spring, Harold Camping, has updated his forecast, and the new End Date is October 21. In May, the world was supposed to end with a series of rolling earthquakes that began at 6PM in New Zealand (and then rolled through all the world's time zones). This time, Harold Camping says, the world will end quietly. As far as we know, he hasn't specified a particular time. In the intervening months, unfortunately, Camping has suffered...

Yes, this again. There are fewer billboards this time, but the people who brought you the popular Rapture "scare" of May 2011 are back with a more subdued sequel titled "Wait, Wait, We Meant October." You may recall the excitement earlier this year when Grand Rapids received a visit from the followers of Family Radio Worldwide, a California-based Christian group led by 89-year-old Harold Camping, who were traveling the country to loudly and colorfully proclaim Judgment Day's imminence. It didn't happen. OR DID IT!? The conspicuous lack of a world-ending earthquake left Camping and his followers scrambling to explain why...

End of the World.. October 21st.. 'Probably..' Remember Harold Camping? He's the Christian broadcaster who said the rapture would happen on May 21st. He later said he was "flabbergasted" that the rapture didn't happen. Well, now he says the 'real rapture' will happen on October the 21st – probably.
  • Family Radio's Harold Camping Strangely Quiet as Oct. 21 'Judgment Day' Approaches

After suffering a stroke just days after falsely predicting that judgment day for the world and the rapture of Christians would be on May 21, 2011, Family Radio's Harold Camping has been relatively quite, not offering any new predictions for the end times, even as Oct. 21 approaches - the day the Bible teacher claims the world will come to an end. In a "special announcement" dated Aug. 8 on its website, California-based Family Radio gave an update on Camping's health condition: Mr. Camping’s condition following his stroke has improved substantially, and God willing, he will soon return home. He...

The executive director of a ministry that works with the persecuted church in the northern reaches of Vietnam says he's outraged that a "prophecy" by an American preacher apparently cost the lives of many tribal Hmong people who believed it. The prediction by Harold Camping, 89, of Oakland, Calif.-based Family Radio, was that Jesus Christ would return to Earth to "rapture" his followers to heaven on May 21. Camping said mankind had run out of time, and the Creator of the universe would arrive on that Saturday. The horrific aftermath of the unfulfilled prophecy was reported by James Jacob Prasch,...

An Oregon man, believed to be a follower of Harold Camping and in jail for allegedly shooting a co-worker last week, wanted to punish the victim for mocking the California preacher’s rapture prophecy, emerging developments suggest. A 39-year-old man from west Eugene, Dale O’Callaghan, shot his co-worker, 33-year-old Jerry Andrews, in the shoulder June 24, calling him “one of those Satanic” people, according to a sworn affidavit filed in Lane County Circuit Court by Eugene Police Detective Ben Hall. O’Callaghan and Andrews, co-workers at LHM Hydraulics for several years, had argued occasionally over Harold Camping’s prediction that the rapture would...

The Christian radio station belonging to Harold Camping, who twice incorrectly predicted the world would end, plans to replace his weekday segment Open Forum with new programming after rebroadcasting the last show he recorded before suffering a stroke on June 9. Family Radio on Hegenberger Road began playing repeats of Open Forum after a stroke hospitalized the 89-year-old Camping. On Monday, staff again started airing 20 segments recorded by Camping from May 23 -- two days after he most recently predicted Judgment Day would arrive -- through June 9. "When those are completed, we will have other programming that is...

Harold Camping, the Family Radio minister who inaccurately predicted that the world would experience Judgment Day last May 21, has suffered a stroke. Camping, the 89-year-old head of the Oakland-based evangelical media company, suffered a stroke on Thursday night after a radio broadcast and was taken to a local hospital, according to a message posted on a Family Radio-oriented Yahoo group by Charlie Menut, station manager of Family Radio affiliate WFME. Harold Camping doomsday prediction record: 0-2 Harold Camping "flabbergasted" by non-Rapture Apocalypse ... uhm, when? A neighbor of Camping told the Oakland Tribune that the Alameda minister was taken...
