Follows recent tweet by President Trump urging Senate to stay in session through the summerThe clamor for Congress to scrap its summer vacation is growing louder, with more than a dozen Senate Republicans officially petitioning Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Tuesday to keep the chamber in session on nights, weekends and even through their normal August break to make headway on President Trump’s agenda. Partly born of frustration with Democrats and partly worried that voters will see a lack of progress from an all-Republican Washington, the senators said voters preparing for the November elections deserve to know that the Republican...

Louisiana's lawmakers Wednesday (April 25) advanced a bill that would require public schools to provide 30 minutes of recess daily to students in kindergarten through eighth grade, excluding charter schools. The House Education Committee voted 8-5 to advance House Bill 842, sponsored by Rep. Beryl Amedee, R-Houma., to the full House floor. It would still have to move through the Senate before the governor could sign it into law.Debra Schum, Louisiana Association of Principals executive director, said the state would have to either have the Board and Elementary and Secondary Education determine that recess can be counted as instructional time,...

Thank you, President Trump! People’s lives are on the line, and they need to know now about the future of their health care. President Trump on Wednesday told Republican senators he doesn’t want Congress to leave Washington for the August recess until lawmakers pass a health care bill. “Frankly, I don’t think we should leave town unless we have a health insurance plan, unless we can give our people great health care,” Trump said during a lunch with senators at the White House. “Because we’re close. We’re very close.”

Folks, both the Republican & Democrat establishment low life have had the "easy street" ride as the "People's Representatives, IHMHO!!! Too many long weekends, Tuesday through Thursday work weeks, and one recess after the other. I say Monday through Friday, twelve hours per day, no recesses, only holidays and weekends (Saturday & Sunday) off. Votes in both the Senate & House should take no longer then fifteen minutes. If you cannot cast your vote within fifteen minutes...you do not belong in the people's congress. IMHO, these congress people...not only screw us all....but, they rub it our faces and take us...

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Thursday that he wants to see "very significant" tax reform passed before Congress' August recess, in what could prove a tough task as lawmakers work through a complex agenda. "We want to get this done by the August recess. We've been working closely with the leadership in the House and the Senate and we're looking at a combined plan," he told CNBC in his first television interview since assuming office. President Donald Trump has repeatedly made pledges for tax reform and regulatory cuts since he took office, creating optimism among business executives and investors. So...

If there is one thing that is bipartisan in Washington, it is brazen hypocrisy. Currently there is much indignation being expressed by Democrats because the Republican-controlled Senate refuses to hold confirmation hearings on President Obama’s nominee to the Supreme Court, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia. The Democrats complain, and the media echo their complaint, that it is the Senate’s duty to provide “advice and consent” on the President’s appointment of various federal officials. Therefore, according to this claim, the Senate is neglecting its Constitutional duty by refusing even to hold hearings to determine...

The Constitution not only assigns to the president the task of making nominations to the Supreme Court, setting off Senate review that may or may not result in approval, but it also gives the Chief Executive the opportunity to fill a vacancy on the Court temporarily, bypassing the Senate initially, if a nominee languishes in the Senate without final action.

QUEENSLAND, Australia – Students and parents at Peregian Springs State School are flipping out after officials banned unsupervised playground cartwheels and handstands to prevent injuries. Two children at the school have been injured recently – one broke a wrist, the other was kicked in the head – while performing “cheerleader type stunts,” prompting principal Gwen Sands to issue a ban on Monday in the school’s newsletter, SunshineCoastDaily.au reports. “All students have been advised that under no circumstances are they allowed to perform cart wheels, handstands or any other type of gymnastic move at school unless they are properly supervised by...

Sextili had been the name of the eighth month, but only because it was the sixth month in the Roman calendar. Wikipedia notes that "it became the eighth month when January and February were added to the year before March by King Numa Pompilius, who also gave it 29 days." Julius Caesar put in two additional days. Sextili became August eight years after the birth of Christ to honor Emperor Augustus. While August may have worked out well for Augustus, for American politicians August tends to be a month of scandal and trouble. Congress leaves for its August recess....

The Centers for Disease Control tells us that in recent years there has been a jump in the percentage of young people diagnosed with Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder, commonly known as ADHD: 7.8 percent in 2003 to 9.5 percent in 2007 and to 11 percent in 2011. The reasons for the rise are multiple, and include changes in diagnostic criteria, medication treatment and more awareness of the condition. In the following post, Angela Hanscom, a pediatric occupational therapist and the founder of TimberNook, a nature-based development program designed to foster creativity and independent play outdoors in New England, suggests...
  • HIGH COURT LIMITS PRESIDENT'S APPOINTMENTS POWER

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Supreme Court has limited a president's power to make temporary appointments to fill high-level government jobs. The court said Thursday that President Barack Obama exceeded his authority when he invoked the Constitution's provision on recess appointments to fill slots on the National Labor Relations Board in 2012.

President Obama—the imperial President, the “I’ve got a pen and I’ve got a phone” President who can’t wait to show us his “year of action”—once vowed to do exactly the opposite. "The biggest problems that we’re facing right now have to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch and not go through Congress at all. And that’s what I intend to reverse when I’m President of the United States of America." That was candidate Obama back in 2008. This comment somehow slipped under the radar for the past few years and resurfaced...

Well, today's the day we have to worry if the wobbly US Supreme Court will uphold what should seem obviously sensible rulings from three lower courts: that the Obama Administration had no business whatsoever claiming short-term congressional breaks to be 'in recess' and then exploiting them to ram-through dubious 'recess appointments'. When questioned, the Obama WH's only response has been 'sue me', which soon became a reality. Since then, a U.S. appeals court in DC -and two others- said that indeed President Obama had violated the Constitution when he used the recess-appointment power to fill seats on the National Labor...

Last week, our two children started back to school. The prep work included buying new backpacks, books and school supplies, along with a few new clothes. Binders were labeled and organized, new textbooks were bought and thumbed through, and, for our daughter Maggie, the first day's outfit was carefully thought through and laid out the night before. Schedules were printed and reviewed. They were ready to get back to work. They were ready for a new year, a fresh start. As they walked out our door the first morning, my husband Jimmy and I reminded them that first impressions matter...

Accountable Congress has done amazing work chronicling all the town halls and opportunities to reach out to members of Congress over August. Few groups have performed as well as them in documenting activities. They should serve as a model for every other group out there in getting this data out to Americans. It is very clear that members of Congress, regardless of party, do not want you to know where they will be this August. Well, because of Accountable Congress and groups like FreedomWorks and Tea Party Patriots, we can tell you. Over the next several weeks I’m going to...

RICHMOND, Va. – A third federal appeals court ruled Wednesday that President Obama´s recess appointments of three National Labor Relations Board members was unconstitutional. A divided three-judge panel of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals joined federal appeals courts in the District of Columbia and Philadelphia in ruling that the Senate wasn´t really in recess when Obama filled the vacancies during an extended holiday break in January 2012. The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear the D.C. case. However, the legal dispute may have been resolved politically. Obama on Tuesday nominated two new NLRB appointees to replace those

Democrats hammered Republicans for voting to go into recess Friday and accused them of willfully avoiding coming up with a plan to avert the sequester. “The Democrats tried to stop the Republicans from leaving, but 220 Republicans voted to adjourn, that means we have four legislative days left to avoid the across the board cuts,” Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi told reporters. “They manufacture a crisis and then instead of trying to avert that crisis they go on a nine day recess. Why?" **SNIP** “The Republicans are poised to shut down government, the Republicans are poised to let sequestration go forward,...
