  • CANADA TO LIFT VISA REQUIREMENTS FOR MEXICO

Ottawa, Ontario 28 June 2016 The Government of Canada has made it a top priority to re-establish and strengthen our relationship with one of our most important partners, Mexico. To this end, Prime Minister Trudeau today announced Canada’s intention to lift the visa requirement for Mexican visitors to Canada beginning December 1, 2016. Lifting the visa requirement will deepen ties between Canada and Mexico and will increase the flow of travellers, ideas, and businesses between both countries. Closer collaboration between Canada and Mexico on mobility issues will also help encourage travel between the two countries while preventing any increase in...

Article from 2006: The nation’s television screens many days recently have been filled with scenes of huge crowds carrying the colorful green and red flag of Mexico viewers could well have thought it was a national holiday in Mexico City. It was instead, downtown Los Angeles, Calif., although the scene was recreated in numerous other cities around the country with substantial Mexican populations. Hordes of Mexican expatriates, many here illegally, were protesting the very U.S. immigration laws they were violating with impunity. They found it offensive and a violation of their rights that the U.S. dared to have immigration laws...

“Mexico First” has been the open, avowed policy of the government of Mexico for a generation, and Mexico expects its former residents to be loyal to Mexico for the next 200 years. Yet, when Donald Trump calls for an “America First” foreign policy, as he did in a speech this past week, he is denounced by pundits and the national security establishment for “nativism” and “demagoguery,” as if that policy is a novel and radical idea. Donald Trump, the orange spray-tanned Republican presidential candidate, kicked off his California primary campaign yesterday at the Orange County Fairgrounds. Costa Mesa's Pacific Amphitheater seemed like the perfect venue in a county that's right-wing as hell, no? The city, no stranger to anti-immigrant policy at the local level, had to be a good fit for Trump's "build that wall," Mexi-hating mantra, right? Wrong! Last week something really surprising happened. Dr. Ben Carson, the Neurosurgeon turned GOP presidential candidate, overtook Donald Trump in a CBS News poll by a margin of 26 percent to 22 percent. Not so surprising, is that Dr. Carson as the new frontrunner, has come under much more scrutiny and criticism than ever before. I particularly liked the comments by several bloggers who compared Carson to Chance the Gardener, a pitifully naive character played by Peter Sellers in the 1979 film, “Being There”. Which, ipso facto, means Americans have no right to free expression at all. ~snip~ The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled upon the constitutionality of a decision by the administration at Live Oak High School in 2010. On May 5th of that year, student Daniel Galli and his friends had the unmitigated gall to...

Dear President Obama: I'm planning to move my family and extended family into Mexico for my health, and I would like to ask you to assist me. We're planning to simply walk across the border from the U.S. into Mexico, and we'll need your help to make a few arrangements. We plan to skip all the legal stuff like visas, passports, immigration quotas and laws. I'm sure they handle those things the same way you do here. So, would you mind telling your buddy, The President of Mexico, that I'm on my way over? Please let him know that I...

The violent late-night fight that ended with the death of a 23-year-old California woman might have been sparked by a photobomb, a source told the LA Times. According to a friend, Kim Pham accidentally walked right in front of a camera while another group was snapping photos outside of The Crosby lounge in Santa Ana on Saturday. A verbal argument erupted between Pham's friends and the other group, which quickly dissolved into a brawl as the young woman was pummeled into the ground. Pham did not survive the beating. She was declared brain dead and taken off life support Tuesday.

Outspoken conservative Ann Coulter says lawmakers' proposals for amnesty, school tuition and drivers' licenses for illegal immigrants must stop because "the country has not voted to turn itself into Mexico." "How many times do these Republicans have to try pushing amnesty and in-state tuition and drivers' licenses then, suddenly, they discover, oops, the dogs don't like it? They try to back pedal but no one trusts them anymore anyway because it is just such a God-awful idea." Coulter told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV. "We're a country. We are not a department store. We have to have some...

SAN ANTONIO — Amid a national push for immigration reform in what advocates say is a window when Congress might be willing to change the country's laws, five local organizations will hold a pro-reform rally today. The Brown Berets, Southwest Workers Union and others will gather at noon at the federal complex next to HemisFair Park. They're asking for a suspension of deportations, “an incluse pathway to legalization,” an immigration policy that “strengthens the middle and working class through encouraging unionization,” and a reform that doesn't militarize the border or expand the border wall.

Speaking to a group of business leaders at the White House on Tuesday, President Barack Obama said he did not see any reason a “pathway to citizenship” for illegal aliens could not be enacted before the end of this year. To make his point, he argued that there are “some very conservative folks” who “believe that now is the time to get this done.” …

State Sen. Ron Calderon accepted about $88,000 in bribes from an undercover FBI agent posing as a film studio owner and a Southern California hospital executive during a wide-ranging probe into his conduct as a legislator, according to a 124-page affidavit published online Wednesday by cable news network Al Jazeera America. No charges have been filed against Calderon, a Democrat from Montebello. His attorney, Mark Geragos, did not return calls Wednesday. The federal affidavit, filed with the court under seal as the FBI sought a search warrant for Calderon’s office, alleges that he worked with interest groups in a pay-to-play...

Passing immigration reform is a way for Republicans to get on a positive agenda and regain some of the approval of the American people, Sen. John McCain said Tuesday during a town hall in Tucson. He said the prospects of passing comprehensive immigration reform this year are still strong despite some Republicans saying the government shutdown and the way it was handled by President Obama affected any chance for compromise. But “the same people that said that are the people that oppose immigration reform. They are just trying to find another reason,” McCain said after the town hall meeting attended...

Janet Murguia, the president of the National Council of La Raza, used her speech to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech on Saturday to advocate for comprehensive immigration reform. Speaking at the Realize the Dream March and Rally days before the 50th anniversary of King's speech, Murguia said, "We march so that everyone knows that true justice must include enacting comprehensive immigration reform." She also said Americans should march for illegal immigrants who live "in the shadows" and who "live in fear every day of their lives because they are undocumented." Murguia also...
