As this article notes, even though Archbishop J. Peter Sartain has asked parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Seattle, Washington to circulate petitions in support of Referendum 74, the ballot measure to roll back Washington's recently passed same-sex "marriage" law, several parishes have refused to do so. One of these parishes, St. Mary's Parish in the Central Area, issued a statement through its "pastoral life coordinator" Tricia Wittmann-Todd. In her "weekly message," Ms. Wittmann-Todd writes: "Dear People of St Mary's, I am writing to share with you my decision regarding collection of signatures at St Mary's for Referendum 74, to repeal...

Rosen V. Romney is an orchestrated DISTRACTION Bill O’Reilly & Charles Krauthammer were discussing the “Buffet Rule” which most everyone knows is the premise for Obama’s tax raising campaign on the wealthy. Republicans know that he is using this admittedly useless endeavor to foment class warfare. Krauthammer did a capable job explaining how 250 years worth of this additional tax would only amount to about one year of the current deficit spending. He explained that this is pure demagoguery (as we all know) and he added that “demagoguery works.” I will add that the reason why these trivial distractions work...

Hilary Rosen had an unusually hardened tone to her voice as she castigated Ann Romney on Anderson Cooper's CNN program the other night. What had this outspoken gay lady had against motherhood? She and her 3 year lesbian partner (at the time, as they are now split) have been outspoken for LGBTQ* rights, but also adopted twin girls, so you would think Ms. Rosen would have a handle on the sacrifice required to perform maternal duties. Yet, when I think of maternal instincts, neither she nor her former significant other seem to have that feminine, motherly quality required to raise...

Forget the bread. The economy is in the toilet and unless you know someone who ponied up for a front row seat at an Obama fundraiser, it's staying there. Better together is the slogan, which means it only gets better if you stay together with The One. And I don't mean vote for him, I mean get the hook up. On Easter Sunday, 2012, a series of car bombs exploded, killing at least 38 and wounding hundreds, as stained glass shattered and brick and mortar rained down upon the congregants – in and around the All Nations Christian Assembly Church and the ECWA Good News Church, in Kaduna, Nigeria. On Christmas Day, 2011, a similar bombing killed 44 (and injured hundreds more) at a Catholic church in Madalla, Nigeria. President Obama has become an expert at making phony claims and exploiting bogus issues. On the energy front, who can forget his claim that we’d have no need for new oil production or exploration if we simply kept our tires properly inflated and got regular tune-ups? Now it’s fuel made from algae, a technology that is, at best, decades away and will probably be just as cost-ineffective as ethanol. The president’s phony issue du jour is the Republican Party’s alleged war on women. The issue’s roots were planted at the Jan. 7 Republican primary debate in New Hampshire. ABC News'...

All politics are the politics of the future. The one cause that we all champion, regardless of our political orientation, is the cause of the future. All that we fight for is the ability to shape the future. The fundamental political question is, "Do you believe things are getting better or worse?" Ruling parties tend to answer, "Better", opposition parties tend to answer, "Worse". The deeper answer to that question though lies in our perceptions of the past and the future. The left tends to view the past negatively and future shock positively. It wants change to disrupt the old...

A few days after September 11 I saw a quote from Gunter Grass on a Manhattan lamppost. In those dark days, the lampposts and walls that weren't covered in missing persons posters were decorated with the hysterical pamphleteering of the left urging us to blame ourselves for the attacks. The quote has long since been lost to memory, buried under smoke and ash, a green parrot perched on an empty staircase and crowds thronging on foot across the bridge. Feral children deprived of language develop their own forms of communication and it may be that societies deprived of religion develop their own belief systems. Religion is at its core a means of explaining the world and it becomes absurdly easy for science to slip into the habits of religion. To break down religion to its essence is to say that there is a creative force which has given us life and that the proper way to live is to be in harmony with this creative force. Sinfulness consists of acts which disrupt the life-giving activity of the creative force...

Passion of the Christ – as difficult as it is to watch – is an indelible, symbiotic work for one transcendent reason: why wouldn’t a man, if he didn’t truly believe he was the Son of God, simply renounce his claim rather than suffer so horribly at the hands of his detractors? For many, those who are equally fraught with human frailties, faith ultimately supercedes any fear of pain or indignation. Easter, of course, celebrates the Resurrection of the Lord Jesus and the salvation of Man. Not only does the AP leaves the SS factoid out of the headline; they don't mention it until the near bottom of their about burying the lede. The AP didn't mention the fact that Guenter Grass was a member of "the Waffen-SS, the combat arm of the Nazis' paramilitary organization" until the very end of the article (as were the comments in defense of the tiny Jewish state)....

Writing for the Associated Press, Nicole Winfield is reporting that, "Pope Benedict XVI issued a blistering denunciation Thursday of priests who have questioned church teaching on celibacy and ordaining women, saying they were being selfish in disobeying his authority. Benedict made the rare and explicit criticism from the altar of St. Peter's Basilica in his homily on Holy Thursday, when priests recall the promises they made when ordained...In his homily, Benedict said the dissidents claim to be motivated by concern for the church. But he suggested that in reality they were just making 'a desperate push to do something to...
  • Obama is NOT ignorant of the Constitution nor is he "in Over his Head"

Some are aware that Barack Obama seems to be working to set up what is now just a shadow organization that may be likened to The People's Commissariat for Internal Affairs. That was the name of the public and secret police organization of the Soviet Union that directly executed the rule of power of the Soviets, including political repression, during the era of Joseph Stalin. Perhaps he plans to save this database for some time after a planned coup d'état. We have seen hints of this in his surreptitious call for good Marxist “Democrats” to actually –report- American citizens who...
  • Obama paraphrases Rev. Niemoller: "First I lost Catholics, but I had other groups so I didn't care."

We’ve heard the words of German Pastor Niemoller who lamented that he stood by and did nothing as the Nazis murdered people by category. Niemoller said, “First they came for the Jews and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew,” and so on. For the past three years Barack Obama could be paraphrasing Niemoller. Obama might have said, “First I attacked Christians, especially Catholics trying to force them to violate their religious beliefs. When I lost them as supporters I didn’t care because I had lots of other supporters.” He could have said, “I attacked oil...

There's a thin line between Anti-Semitism and Anti-Zionism. That's true of Muslims and the left, but it's also true specifically of the Jewish left, whose hatred for Israel manifests itself in a general contempt for Jewish religion, culture and tradition. Gilbert in the West Bank Take the Jewbags case of Danielle Gilbert, a staffer for Democratic National Committee chairwoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz who had been appointed the DNC's Jewish outreach liaison. In a social media mishap, Gilbert posed along with her friends in a photo that she captioned "JEWBAGS" and that a friend of hers captioned as "Jew cash money team."...
  • Martin Sheen: The Church is not God, man is

La Salette Journey ^ | April 4, 2012 | Paul Melanson is reporting that actor Martin Sheen is defending his position in favor of redefining marriage despite his Catholic faith, saying that "my religion's highest standard is conscience." Apparently the long-time actor hasn't spent as much time studying Catholic teaching as he has with his other endeavors. If he had taken the time to actually read Pope John Paul II's Encyclical Letter Veritatis Splendor, for example, he would have read that: "Conscience, as the judgment of an act, is not exempt from the possibility of error. As the Council [Vatican II, which, sadly, Sheen is also not familar with] puts...

Would you go to jail – with your bishop? It’s not often happened, in my lifetime, that the U.S. government would flatly require what God forbids, or forbid what God requires. Usually political judgments have had to do with teaspoon measuring and prudential reasoning, sorting and bargaining and trade-offs of competing goods. The policy picture is made by pencil: we sketch and erase, we compare estimated costs and benefits of differing public policies. These things are negotiable; and the negotiation is called politics. So it was most shocking, in the first few months of 2012, for American Catholics to face not...

We have been watching a prolonged assault on the hearts and minds of our nation’s kids for several decades now. We have seen the standards of education lowered to the point that many kids leave school unable to even write a grammatically correct paragraph, but with a firm grasp of “self esteem.” This is, of course, by design. The communists who have wormed their way into positions of power in all our institutions and government have as a goal the “dumbing-down” of our young people. Why? Because an uninformed, undereducated electorate is like a malleable herd of sheep, and that...
