  • God and Jerusalem

    09/14/2012 6:37:28 AM PDT · by Jimmy4Toes ^ | 09/14/2012 | Thomas Sowell
Who would have thought that God and Jerusalem would become controversial issues at this year's Democratic National Convention? Previous Democratic Party platforms had mentioned God and referred to Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. After both were initially missing from this year's platform, someone apparently realized that this was likely to raise questions about Democrats that they could ill afford to have raised in an election year. So the convention faced a vote on whether to restore God and Jerusalem to their party's platform. Rather than risk a roll-call vote from the delegates, the chair called for a voice vote....

CONNELLSVILLE, Pa. — School district leaders have delayed moving a controversial Ten Commandments display outside a junior high school indefinitely. Board members said it will stay put, and they are looking at all of their options to determine how to move forward. The monument is outside the Connellsville Area Junior High School. A student's parent and Americans United for the Separation of Church and State have each asked the district to take down the monument. In a statement, the group said the First Amendment gives parents the right to tell their children what religion to choose and not public schools....

Save for the parade of stupendous hats, there was little to alert passersby to the royal wedding Saturday morning in downtown Washington. The bride: Katie Walker, 26, a Cincinnati native who until recently was communications director for Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington. The groom: Archduke Imre of Austria, also 26, great-grandson of Charles, the last ruler of the Austro-Hungarian empire. Right now you’re thinking, “Wow. How’d she find an archduke?” Well, by going to church. Ken Wolfe, a friend of the bride who sang in the Gregorian chant group at her wedding, tells us the couple met two...

On patrol the other day, along Eglinton Ave. just east of Dufferin, I passed St. Simon’s Religious Supply Store. I am not fond of religion, but I do like the supplies. I have a relic in the form of a shred of cotton from a garment of Brother André, late of Montreal. I also keep a medal of St. Catherine of Siena with my car keys, a logical place if you think, like she did and I do, that the way to heaven is heaven. St. Simon’s is not about those kind of supplies. There have been questions raised about whether the attack on the U.S. Embassy in Libya was done in conjunction with the attacks on the Embassy in Cairo. This video brings us closer to answering that question. In fact, it not only points to the same attackers but possibly to Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi himself. Fast forward to the 1:15 mark in this video (if you don’t understand Arabic). Watch as the raw footage of a firefight in Benghazi is taking place. The news report loops the relevant portion of an exchange between gunmen, in which one can be heard, saying,...

The attacks on U.S. Embassies had very little to do with the latest film and much more to do with the old story of the Muhammad Cartoon and the failure of Muslims to prosecute internationally the culprits who drew the Muhammad cartoons. This will be another attempt to change the laws globally. Wisam Abdul Waris of Dar Al-Hekma (House of Wisdom) – about whom the Nour Salafist party announced publicly that its call to demonstrate was in support of – began a call to push for the passage of laws to be placed in the Egyptian Constitution – as well...

Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Egypt's ruling Muslim Brotherhood Wednesday angrily denounced a U.S.-produced film harshly critical of the Prophet Muhammad, raising fears that a new wave of violent protests will follow Tuesday's attacks on U.S. diplomatic installations in Cairo and Benghazi, Libya. Shortly after news emerged that the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other American diplomats were killed in Benghazi, the Afghan presidential palace released a statement condemning the "desecrating act" by the makers of the film, saying that its release "stoked interfaith enmity and confrontation, and badly impacted the peaceful coexistence between human beings."

On the anniversary of 9-11, Muslims have attacked U.S. diplomatic compounds in Egypt and Libya. The attacks have resulted in the death the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three of his staff. US Embassies in Algeria and Tunisia are warning about additional protests. The attacks have come in response to a film critical of muhammad, the founder of islam. Those who forget their past, will inevitably repeat the same mistakes over and over again. Democrats have short memories, because they continually forget what happens when they run the country, and thus they try to do the same thing every time they are in power. So if we do not ever want to see another day like December 7, 1941 or September 11, 2001, then we must remove Obama and his cohorts in the Senate from power, just as we removed their fellow Democrats from power in the House in 2010. Conspiracy theories about 9/11 are in abundance. Some even believe that it was an “inside job”. We reject this notion completely. However, it is becoming increasingly obvious that the Bush administration made a conscious and very ill-advised decision not to go after the real perpetrators of the attacks – Saudi Government officials, Princes, and wealthy financiers. The accounts of the deaths of three Saudi Princes in particular don’t just border on absurd; they cross the line into absurdity. Foul play is the only logical conclusion. Massive inbreeding within the Muslim culture during the last 1.400 years may have done catastrophic damage to their gene pool. The consequences of intermarriage between first cousins often have serious impact on the offspring's intelligence, sanity, health and on their surroundings The most famous example of inbreeding is in ancient Egypt, where several Pharaonic dynasties collapsed after a couple of hundred years. In order to keep wealth and power within the family, the Pharaohs often married their own sister or half-sister and after a handful of generations the offspring were mentally and physically unfit to rule. Another historical example is...

Orion is one of the most well-known and easily recognized constellations of the winter sky. The three bright blue stars in Orion’s belt seem to draw our attention instantly.1 Such stars are a strong confirmation of the biblical timescale. Most stars generate energy by the process of nuclear fusion of hydrogen into helium in the stellar core. This is a very efficient power source. Theoretically, a star like the sun has enough hydrogen in its core to keep it burning for ten billion years. But that’s not the case with blue stars. Blue stars are always more massive than the...

In a viewer question from a woman who had adopted three children internationally, Robertson’s advice as to why men seemed to lose interest when they found out she adopted her children, said: “A man doesn’t want to take on the United Nations, and a woman has all these various children, blended family, what is it – you don’t know what problems...

The Republican Party has come under fire in recent years for what many believe is the GOP’s break from truly conservative principles. In turn, presidential contender Mitt Romney has also drawn ire from a contingent of conservatives for what they consider his moderate, and at times, inconsistent stance on various policies and platforms. But all of that may be changing. Thus far, the GOP has adopted “11.5″ of FreedomWorks’ 12 conservative platforms, revealing to Glenn Beck that the small-government, pro-liberty movement is indeed powerful and can effect change. On Tuesday FreedomWorks announced that the Republican Platform Committee has adopted “11.5...

A leading prelate in Cameroon has come under fire for reportedly calling homosexuals “corrupters of society” during a homily on the Feast of the Assumption, according to a tendentious Radio Netherlands report. “Homosexuality is an insult to family, an enemy to women and creation," preached Archbishop Simon-Victor Tonyé Bakot of Yaoundé, the nation’s capital. "We hear about debates on same-sex marriage. How is homosexuality promoting procreation and family values? If all men were married to other men, what would become of women?” The nation of 19.7 million is 26% Catholic, 14% Protestant, and 20% Muslim. An estimated 40% of the...

Deliberation tends to move groups, and the individuals who compose them, toward a more extreme point in the direction indicated by their own predeliberation polarization – has many implications for economic, political, and legal institutions. It helps to explain extremism, “radicalization,” cultural shifts, and the behavior of political parties and religious organizations

Went to see 2016 with my son inlaw today. At the conclusion of the movie the audience applauded, but not because it was a heartwarming ending or the good guys won kind of ending, but because someone has dared to tell the truth. It was more like, "finally, someone on our side is daring to tell this story". It is frightening to see just how imminent the effects of Obama's actions are, and that they are all so calculated. I used to get so mad at Romney when he would shovel the pablum, "Obama's a nice guy, he's just over...
