Six of the nine Supreme Court justices attended the annual Red Mass at the Roman Catholic Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle in Washington on Sunday. The event’s speakers spoke about using faith in decision-making but largely stayed away from the controversial issues the court will face in the coming months.Chief Justice John Roberts, Justice Stephen Breyer, Justice Antonin Scalia, Justice Clarence Thomas, Justice Anthony Kennedy and Justice Elena Kagan all attended the 60th annual Mass. This was Kagan’s first Red Mass.Having six justices in attendance ties a record set in 2009. The only justices to not attend this year...

There are people that don't fully understand what the blood of Jesus has already done for them. So, they continue to live as if Jesus never shed his blood. But, he did and he did it for a reason, for you. You see sin calls for punishment and the punishment for sin is death. Now, that doesn't mean just physical death. It includes all the things that came as the result of sin (sickness, depression, poverty, fear, and everything else). Those things are punishment for sin. Now, the scripture says God is the judge of all the earth and he's...

Muslim fanatics throughout the Middle East have taken time from beating their wives to riot, burn, kill, and destroy American property. Their leaders in Egypt, Pakistan, and Indonesia have tethered their camels and come in from the desert to lecture Americans on free speech, dignity, and film making. Those Muslim leaders want the UN to criminalize blasphemy against the Koran, Islam, and Mohammed using the amateur, anti-Muslim film by a Coptic Christian (who immigrated to America) as a justification for their demands. At the same time they make their demands about insulting the Koran, they insult our Constitution! I am...

Americans United for Separation of Church and State evidently sent copies of this letter to 60,000 pastors recently. Its important to remember that Americans United is not an official agency of any governmental entity. This letter has no force of law and is just their opinion. Our local AU affiliate here in Oklahoma has sent similar letters to pastors in my House district in the past. The pastors I talked to about it tell me they threw it in the trash.

Cheerleaders at Kountze High School in southeast Texas were banned last week from displaying banners with inspirational Bible passages on them at football games, Fox News reported. But now a judge has granted a temporary restraining order that will let them to display the signs until a hearing on the matter takes place Oct. 4. In September, the Kountze Independent School District told the cheerleaders to stop using the religious banners, which the Kountz High football team runs through at games, after the Freedom From Religion Foundation accused the students of violating the Constitution, the Houston Chronicle reported. **SNIP** The...

Media theorists like to talk about the power of a "narrative," meaning a storyline that's often more influential than reality in shaping perceptions. For instance, violent crime rates in the United States are at historic lows, yet popular psychology, shaped by Quentin Tarantino and "CSI," remains gripped by a narrative of pervasive danger.{C} Pope Benedict XVI recently returned from his fourth trip to the Middle East, where there's a strong Christian narrative these days: decline and possible extinction. Given the steep drop in the native Christian population, some fear the region will soon be a "spiritual Disneyland," full of holy...

NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- A grenade attack on a Catholic church Sunday school in Kenya killed one boy and critically injured six other children, the Red Cross said. The attack happened around 10:30 a.m. at the St. Polycarp Catholic church in Nairobi and was immediately blamed on Somalia's al-Shabaab Islamist militants, the BBC reported. Nairobi Police Chief Moses Ombati told the Sunday Nation newspaper some of the injuries were caused by a panic stampede after the blast.

Christians should not be jealous of the good that is done outside of the Catholic Church. Instead, the good that is done by the various ecclesial realities within the Church should be respected and appreciated. Using wealth "in solidarity and for the common good, ensuring equality and morality, at all levels." Appeal for refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Tomorrow the Pope returns to the Vatican.Castel Gandolfo (AsiaNews) - "Just as one can find that which is not Catholic in the Catholic Church - that is, in the Church -, one can also find something that may be Catholic...

NEWARK, NJ, September 27, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - On Tuesday Newark Archbishop John J. Myers released a pastoral letter calling on Catholics, especially Catholic politicians, who do not accept the teaching of the Church on marriage, to in all honesty and humility refrain from receiving Holy Communion. The Archbishop said that to continue to receive Holy Communion while so dissenting would be objectively dishonest. The New Jersey prelate made a distinction between those struggling at times unsuccessfully against sin, and those who would willingly oppose Church teaching. He said: there is a difference between trying to live the whole Gospel while...

Author Pietro Citati calls for limit on crowd numbers to preserve Michelangelo's art in Vatican City, RomeA fierce row has broken out over the future of the Sistine Chapel, after one of Italy's most respected writers slammed it as an "unimaginable disaster" where tourists resemble "drunken herds". Centred on the image of God reaching out to give life to Adam, the chapel ceiling is renowned as Michelangelo's masterpiece and offers a defining image of the Christian faith. But as the crush of visitors grows year by year, this home to Michelangelo's majestic 16th-century frescoes often feels more like a packed,...

The Place of Exaltation ". . . Jesus took . . . them up on a high mountain apart by themselves . . ." —Mark 9:2 We have all experienced times of exaltation on the mountain, when we have seen things from God’s perspective and have wanted to stay there. But God will never allow us to stay there. The true test of our spiritual life is in exhibiting the power to descend from the mountain. If we only have the power to go up, something is wrong. It is a wonderful thing to be on the mountain with...

It is quite obvious to even the casual observer that our great country is under a tremendous spiritual assault by the forces of darkness and hell that is causing great distress to many across this land and in other free nations. Forty-six percent of Americans believe in the creationist view that God created humans in their present form at one time within the last 10,000 years. The prevalence of this creationist view of the origin of humans is essentially unchanged from 30 years ago, when Gallup first asked the question. About a third of Americans believe that humans evolved, but with God's guidance; 15% say humans evolved, but that God had no part in the process.
