Alabama is updating its decade-old science standards to require that students understand evolution and learn about climate change, topics that can still be controversial in the Bible Belt state. Educators say the new rules — part of a major change that includes more experimentation and hands-on instruction and less lecturing — don't require that students believe in evolution or accept the idea that climate is changing globally. But public school students will be required for the first time to understand the theory of evolution. And teachers will be required to address climate change, which wasn't a focus the last time...

(CNN) -- The Transportation Security Administration has denied that its agents required a 95-year-old woman to remove her adult diaper last week before allowing her to pass a screening checkpoint at Northwest Florida Regional Airport. "While every person and item must be screened before entering the secure boarding area, TSA works with passengers to resolve security alarms in a respectful and sensitive manner," the agency said Sunday night in a statement. Ken Cuccinelli has not been a well-known public figure -- until now. He's the attorney general of Virginia, who wasn't given much chance of succeeding in his lonely legal challenge to President Obama's beloved healthcare legislation designed to change whatever you believe in on that subject. But then, oops, Federal District Judge Henry Hudson on Monday agreed with the Virginia AG, declaring a crucial part of the law unconstitutional. The Obama administration Monday increased the amounts of ethanol and other renewable fuels it wants to see as part of the nation’s gasoline supply, but a senior official took aim at the practice. Responding to a congressional mandate, the Environmental Protection Agency will require that 13.95 billion gallons of transportation fuel comes from renewable sources in 2011, or about 8 percent of domestic gasoline and diesel supplies. The overall percentage is lower than the 2010 standard, but the total volume is larger than this year’s mandate of 12.95 billion gallons.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.(AP) - A Christian organization suing the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to stop a reading requirement on Islam is asking a federal court to speed up the process. The American Family Association Center for Law & Policy in Mississippi asked the court Friday to halt the requirement while the case is decided.
